Marcos (and your local hardware stairs) have a ton of hex spacers. Try to make your post out of 2 posts. It’s 3 7/8” long with 8-32 thread. Get one with a male end sticking out say 2” and one female -female 1 7/8 and screw them together. Don’t know if those are sizes Marcos has but you get the idea.
