Chexx Pro, have always loved playing bubble hockey wherever I could find it so it will be nuts to have such a fancy machine in my own home. Any maintenance tips? I'm a pinball guy through and through but the upkeep for a pin keeps me away but I assume I'll get over my fear and get a Jersey Jack game some day.

chexx don't have much maintenance besides a typical ice wipe down and maybe a puck cleaning. When you have super duper high plays, you may need to change a gear box or a reed switch but, these like pinball, are made for route abuse so they hold up well in home (for the most part).

Hey I'm gonna do a total noob price check here:

What's a mint HUO circa 2007 (I think) CHexx worth?

These move in one piece right? Seems like a bit of a pain in the ass, though I know they aren't too heavy.

Nope, the top comes off. By top I mean the whole dome and ice surface with the rods.

As far as price, I've seen those go for anywhere between $2200-$3200. Theres a couple listed here in mn right now

    Wow that’s cool.

Is removing the top easy? What tools do you need and do you have to open coin door?

It's easy to remove the top. You need a 1/4 inch allen wrench, one came with the machine so they may have it. You shouldn't have to open the coin door.

A short setup video from ice for reference.

If you go for the complete tofhgyn setup, I’ll help you offset some cost by buying the boards and scoreboard from you.

I’m in the process of restoring an original Chexx and silly question but which position is the single long stick player on each team?

    #2663 3 years ago
    Quoted from allsportdvd:

It’s the right wing, but you can tell by looking because it’s the winger that is inside the opposing winger on each side, and thus further from the dome edge on each side needing the longer stick to reach the dome and avoid dead spots.

    #2664 3 years ago

how do you set the 1983 blue chexx to free play?

    #2665 3 years ago

Did anyone ever upgraded the original speakers?

    #2666 3 years ago

Has anyone upgraded to the Jumbotron? How difficult was it, how much was it, and it is worth it?

    #2667 3 years ago

I am surprised no one has created a 3D print file for all the Chexx players! I think I have to start a new project.

    Quoted from allsportdvd:

Right wing from the same team's goalie perspective.

I’m not sure a printed player, specifically the stick would stand up to being played with compared to the molded players.

Depends on what material you printed it in. PLA+ is surprisingly durable, but, yeah, that prolly doesn't hold up to fast spinning thumping about.... BUT... Print players in nylon on the other hand, and they pretty much aren't gonna break. I've seen nylon prints get hit with steel hammers and not break.

ABS (same plastic as legos) might be strong enough too, but nylon certainly would be.

I don't want to take apart my brand new game and spray developer spray on the new NHL painted men to do this but if I managed to get my hands on a older player set, I have a 3d scanner .

With all the whacks the sticks take, I would be far more concerned about fatigue strength rather than impact strength.

Make sure you don’t have any stress risers (sharp corners, defects in corners, etc)

    #2674 3 years ago

Nylon12 would work for 3D Printed players I believe, but depends on the process. SLS would mark up easily. I 3D Printed my game cup holders using Nylon12, SLS for the puck base and FDM for the cups. The puck bases are dyed, the cups are painted. The cups are food grade and light filled with a neoprene insert to catch condensation from a drink. 3D printed players probably need to be printed more densely.

That said, it would be expensive probably but PC would work well to 3D print players I think.

Nylon bends quite a bit before breaking. I mean, things that break authentic chexx men with fatigue stress might also break nylon, but a nylon print is going to hold up to anything that a real chexx man will hold up to. It's just that most people don't have printers that are setup to do nylon, because it requires a different nozzle. I have a printer that can do it if I swap the nozzle (the printer came with the second nozzle, but it's not the one I keep on for PLA prints). Nylon also has tougher storage requirements in terms of keeping it dry (ambient humidity is an issue), and it doesn't like to stick to the build plate, which makes it problematic to print with.

But again, nylon printed players would work just fine:

    Long Island:

If anybody is interested in a mint condition Chexx from probably 10-15 years ago, please send me a PM. I can put you in touch with the owners. On Oyster Bay, Long Island. I don't know about price but they are pretty reasonable.

Locals or travelers only please, I'm sure they'll have zero interest in shipping.

Again I DO NOT HAVE THIS GAME just trying to help out some folks who sold me a pinball machine.

My Boston-based family and I were in the Buffalo, NY area and made a visit to ICE headquarters/offices and manufacturing facility 4/23/21 and were given a tour by Drew with assistance from his son Josh. A fantastic experience that really impressed us and our young kids. Drew took us around the facility for 2 hours and we met a lot of ICE employees and got to see some really cool stuff, also met engineers and other technical employees, quality control testing personnel, some really great people. They are making a lot of home arcade games these days. Check out the Jurassic Park home arcade, partnered with Raw Thrills. They also have a new home basketball arcade and ICE BALL for the home as well. ICE has a cool arcade room setup near the front entrance with these games and is now a Stern pinball distributor as well. They had Stern TMNT and AIQ there for playing. They have some cool accessories for Super Chexx, current and coming products. Check out the Super Chexx Pro mat.

I have removed upgraded speakers - they offered no upgrade in sound, and they looked weird under the grill because they were shiny and had blue highlights... so I replaced them with OEM speakers from ICE. It’s the Amplifier on the pcb that make the difference - if they was a different. The sound files on the game are so basic I don’t think nicer speaker upgrades make a noticeable diff...

    #2685 2 years ago

I don’t THINK you can set it to free play. I recited the coin mech switch to a push button and mounted it to the coin door. Not the ideal situation, but it works. I’ve been told some people rig up the coin reject action to close a switch to start a game, but mine is for the vacation rental and a push button seemed easier.

Makes me wish that ICE would add a video fight mode for super chexx. Could be controlled by the boo button. Based on either a scrolling bar for accuracy or rate of fire.

    #2689 2 years ago

Lol... it even has Grapes on the bench! Well done.

    #2690 2 years ago

So I got my game yesterday. What do people use to clean the dome from finger prints etc? I got young kids and they like to touch the dome constantly.

Other than that loving this thing. Kids are having a blast with it and I think this will get a lot of love in my house.

    #2691 2 years ago

16 players available two complete USA and Canada team plus extras, left over from my restoration. PM for details if interested.

Novus 1 is what I use.

    #2693 2 years ago

I just got my new super Chex pro yesterday and have playing with it. My boo button seems to playing everything but boos. Is there a setting I need to change? The older ones I played seemed to actually boo.

    #2694 2 years ago

Don't even use my boo button, whoever came up with the new version of the boo button, should be fired!

    #2695 2 years ago

Yeah occasionally I’ll hear boos but it’s usually random quotes from the announcer or even a cheer once in awhile.

Hey fellow Chexx lovers, new pinside member here. Trying to get my first pin soon, a Fish Tales I hope, been saving up. I have been into pre '90 arcade games, especially Chexx, since I purchased a Ms pac cocktail in 98 (I still have!) Here are a few of my before & after Chexx restores. My favorite is the 83 model, I remember seeing my first in 87 at the movie theater arcade, the addiction started then & there!! I have a couple buddies that help me paint teams & design what's in my head on how I want it to look. I have perfection ocd & I think it shows lol !

I also recently did a Seattle Kraken table that came out great. It was a special edition Gretzky Challenge Dome from early 00s vs the Dallas Stars, so I kept that theme. As of this post, Seattle still not available to order thru Ice. I went all out on this one, it had one bad scratch across dome, but my wet sanding skills nearly knocked it out. Gretzky is teamed with Coffey, Robitaille, Bourque, Hull, & Fuhr in the net! Once Seattle has players, I will add real names & numbers to them.
