Looking for a Retro Pinball King of Diamonds. Please PM me if you are looking to sell.
Quoted from Elvisinmypants:Really? For real? Why? Have you seen pictures of it? IMO it looks like a piece of crap.

Really? For real? Why would you bump a 2 week old thread just to crap on it?
Actually, it's a pretty sharp looking game.
Also, when I want to play a fun game and only have 2-5 minutes (usually during commercials) I'll either play King of Diamonds or Iron Man. Both are fun and games usually short.

I hear ya there. When I have 0-2 minutes available, I'll flip my Ironman on for some well-deserved punishment.
Why buy the retro when you can get the real deal-

Thats what I'll end up doing. Pinball Fantasies is is close to me and he stocks them and he'll restore one for me to new condition.
The one on E-bay is also in the pinside market from bigdaddy1. I got one just like it from him and several others. You will never find a cleaner, restored, more shiny working example. Talk to him, and he will hook you up. He will also ship it in a crate, and it won't cost you an arm and a leg.
I think it was a great idea. I just don't understand why, they made it look, like that. The original Gottlieb cabinet is a thing of beauty. Why take a dmd looking cabinet and slap a wedge head on it? All of that work, they could have had something really great, if they had just, used the original dimensions. I bet they would have sold a bunch. I don't doubt it is good or fun. In my opinion it looks like a poor fake, it wouldn't have had to. I did not mean to "bump the thread to crap on it" I just learned of Retro Pinball today listening to the Game Room Junkies podcast. I was very interested, until I saw it, when I did I immediately understood, why they never sold the first hundred.
Quoted from charliex:That game is rad. I played it at PHOF. Depends what you are in to. I really like the way they reengineered it. Its old/new and solid state. OK so what do the owners think? Is it a piece of crap?
I've never heard any complaints besides the price and the playfield overlay.
Quoted from WIZ:Give them a call, I'm sure they still have some new in the box.
nope they don't
Quoted from Elvisinmypants:until I saw it
No problem with how it looks or plays. Do they have one in Fargo?
Quoted from charliex:nope they don't
Birmingham Vending still lists it for sale on their website.

I haven't seen one in person, just imo looking at pictures, it is awful by comparison.
317493-i.jpg 317500-i.jpgThere is one, or was one, at the Dakota Magic Casino an hour south of Fargo. Seemed fine to me but I'm not much of an EM guy.

You should probably see one in person. Crappy Internet pictures don't do it justice.
If I was looking for another KoD, I would still just get this one. You aren't going to find too many nicer.

I have no idea why people are complaining about the retro version. The cabinet doesn't look significantly different compared to the old version, at least to me. I've played it at my local arcade and in a tournament. Took me a while to warm up to it but now I really love it!

That seller's name is Robert. I've bought quite a few pins from him, and I recommend him. If I didn't already have a KoD I'd be interested in this myself.
I am a EM guy and I love my KoD. Odin sold me his last year and he had bought it off of Robert in Utah. He is the same person that is listing the one on eBay. I LOVE my KoD. I have only heard problems with the playfield on the retro version. *shrug*

Do pictures change the shape? If its so gorgeous, why did you cram it between a wall and a cockpit where you can't see the side profile that I'm complaining about?

Sigh...space, dude. I used to have Monster Bash in that spot as well.
Never said it was gorgeous. It does look sharp, though.
I hope Elvis is having a good time.
Taste is subjective.

And many people's taste changes when they see an actual 3D machine - after only viewing a 2D picture. I don't understand how you can have such a strong opinion on something you have never seen, held, or played.
Do I prefer the design or play over an original - no. But I understand that the is a large population that wants nothing to do with EM's because they are unfamiliar with the maintenance. This may be right for them. This may also peal to our new breed NIB only buyer.

How much is an original king of diamonds worth these days? I know a guy that has one that's been sitting forever.

I'm in for around $2000 max for a really nice original KoD right now. The inflated asking prices are a bit much for my tastes.
I paid 1850 for mine a year and a half ago. Mine is not perfect but really super nice. I was offered 2800 at Texas Pinball Festival and turned it down because not only had I just bought mine but I really like mine and it is a keeper for me. Average player condition should be 1000-1300, better than player should be 1300-1800, almost collector condition 1800-2000. Collector condition 2000-2500. This is just my honest opinion and what I would pay for one if didn't own one and was currently looking for one.
Interesting. I don't know much about ems but I may try to pick this kod up. There is also another em at the same place called flip a card. Both seemed in pretty good shape, just really dirty. I'm told they worked when they were moved to the garage around 15 years ago or more.

I drove down there today to check it out, sadly it is no longer there. I seem to remember seeing it across from the restaurant some time ago. I looked everywhere these were in the "arcade" to low for me to play.

I sold Herb Silvers (Fabulous Fantasies/Retro Pinball) a project King of Diamonds earlier this year:

I'd be surprised if he would be willing to restore and sell you a KoD for $2000.

Did they move tha arcade again? It was across from hotel front desk, that room looks different. Two months ago it was ST,KOD,& slugfest. I think the operator is rite-way out of Waubay, SD. You could give him a call and see where he has KOD now.

Yes the arcade is still across from the desk. I am almost tempted to track it down now. It would be interesting to see what he thinks of it.

I spoke to Herb and I think he said closer to mid 3's or more for one of his restored ones. I'll give him another call, he is in my area. This just isn't a grail machine to me that I'm willing to pay top $$ for. I like the way it plays!

If you want to pay less than $3500+ and decide to extend your $2000 limit, my King of Diamonds is available for sale. More pics in the following link (the best price, of course, will be out of Ebay):

Pictures below show how the KoD I sold Pinside member o-din traveled to California last year. This machine is now in Texas and received a ribbon at this year's Texas Pinball Festival.

As well as the Big Daddy and Kings & Queens. All three machines were spotless inside and out and fully working. Nice to get machines with nothing to do but plug them in and play them. Robert is now my go to guy and I can't wait to see what's coming next!
