I have always been a huge fan of pinball since my days growing up in the local aracades, Chuck E Cheese, Mr Gattis, and the local skating rink, which always had tables when I was a kid.

I just bought my 1st full size table as a birthday present to myself and my roommates, friends, and I are absolutely loving it! I like a pin with lots of things to do: modes, mini playfields, multiple flippers, items, and playfield toys, so when it came to my first pin I wanted all these things and believe it or not I have found the Popeye table to be a perfect fit. I have read all the negative reviews about Popeye, and I must say that mine does not play at all like any of the negative reviews. My skill shot is consistent and predictable based on the timing and skill of the player (blue rubber stop is removed from end of plunger lane). All other playability issue and cheap big point strategies have been resolved and now it is a challenging and balanced, VERY enjoyable and reliable pin, well at least mine is And the CoinTaker's LED kit makes the thing so bright it looks BRAND new! Very good investment on that pin.

Also when I purchased it Marc at Elevation Games threw in an old empty Superman (Atari) cabinet for my Visual Pinball cabinet build

But at a local $15 session at JoyStix Downtown last Friday I was fortunate enough to spend 4 hours straight with over 100 pinball machines all set on free play including: Medieval Madness, Cactus Canyon, Shrek, Funhouse, F-14, Simpsons, Black Knight, T2, Flintstones, Tron, Ironman, AC/DC, Batman DK, Taxi, and pretty much any other pin you could think of, it was amazing. But no matter how many I played I could not walk away from 2 of the pins, they were just way too enjoyable:
-Cactus Canyon
-Judge Dredd

So naturally I want to get the better deal of the 2 and for the money I think it is hard to beat Judge Dredd. So any help in finding a Judge Dredd in the TX area would be much appreciated. The one at JoyStix is far overpriced

#2 11 years ago

So, no one?

#3 11 years ago

Pins are scarce. I'd sell you mine if you were local.

#4 11 years ago

Buy this one and have it shipped. Not that far from Texas.

What were they asking for it? I just looked through their web site and agree they do seem to be high but are pretty average for retail pricing. Not going to get a deal but their is something to be said about having it immediatly and being able to see for yourself before buying. I think the hardest part is Texas seems to be a pinball desert unless you want an EM and shipping eats up most savings you can get. Try talking them down a bit and see what happens. Maybe you'll get lucky

So true. I've been looking for a decent project pin for several months with no luck. I've also been to Joystix recently and played the AC DC premium. ....so tempting.

#7 11 years ago

Hey Decat. I have one that will be for sale and I live in West Houston. I sent you a Pinside message about it.

Louisiana as well. That is our own fault though, as pinball players in Texas and Louisiana. We need to help our own hobby grow here. Have parties and invite friends over to play, lots of friends. Eventually, one or two of them will get the bug and bring more machines into our/your area.

I am going to try and do that Lake Charles.

There are a few in your area but are wanting over the 2k mark and I would wait something will pop up and JD is a great game and is a Blast to play....Way underrated and the best Pin for the money..Good luck.

Just seems to be a lot of Pinball hoarders and collectors in Texas. Keeps us inside out of the heat during the summer months.

#11 11 years ago

I know a local guy that is about to begin shopping a JD. Let me email him, see when it will be ready, and for how much. Will pm when I get a reply.

#12 11 years ago

I am the local guy in Houston that DrainO was talking about.

I have a JD that I will be selling, so contact me if you are interested.

#13 11 years ago

That worked out

I'll have New Orleans covered soon enough.

Although my JD is not going anywhere, people can come and play it. ; )

This. Texas is definitely not a "pinball desert"...

It takes a lot of effort, and you have to be ready to go when something comes up. Relying on the sellers to have common courtesy and let the first contact come and look at the machine before they sell it to someone else is a pipe dream in my experience. Even on a 500 buck pin, the lady STILL tried to screw me over and sell it from out from under me, even after I already said I would buy it, that I was driving 2 hours to get it, and was buying a hitch for my car to rent a trailer to come pick it up! The only reason I still got it was that I chewed her out over email and it worked in my favor...

The people in Texas are so aggressive they routinely snipe CL ads in neighboring states. I'd bet there's probably more overall pinball machines in Texas than any other state in the country south of the Mason-Dixon line.

You wouldn't drive 2-3 hours for a good deal?

Seriously, it's the same distance for me to go to Oklahoma City or Shreveport practically as it is to go to Austin or Houston. It's not that much further..

#18 11 years ago

I have no issue going to Dallas, Austin or SA.

I routinely check CL in those areas as well.

I'm not making a judgement call - merely an observation. There's an extremely active pinball collecting community throughout Texas. If I put something on CL in a neighboring state, there's a better chance someone from Texas will respond before someone locally. Despite the distance, there are a lot more enthusiasts in that area.

I know of at least a half dozen people in the state who easily have 200+ machines. There are probably large warehouses of games in that state that people are stocking up. I fully-expect some time in the future for big caches of games to be dumped into the market from that area (if not slowly sold off).

#20 11 years ago

Well, I dunno about half dozen PEOPLE, but I know two retailers that probably have that many games each, heh.

They've gotta come from somewhere, I guess. I swear to god, I kid you not... all my GOOD purchases have been from older (late 40's-mid 60's?) folks selling their only machine. Space Shuttle, Pinbot, STTNG, and I'll even throw in Rollergames and Time Machine (they were from the same couple, but that's 1 a person! It counts!) all fit in that category...

Only the last two were from out of state though...everything else was Dallas local.

#21 11 years ago

One corner of the warehouse as of last month...

^^^^^^^^^^ WOW I dont know what to say there...
I was just going to say that I just picked up a Judge Dredd and absolutely love it.
It was a six hour drive (round trip) but well worth it.

Marc, didn't know you were on Pinside. The Star Trek is awesome, and I'll probably be contacting you soon to buy another machine... haha

#24 11 years ago

I've lurked on here for a while. I finally got bored (or it might have been too drunk) one night and signed up. Glad to hear you are enjoying the Star Trek, you got a nice game.

#25 11 years ago

Marc, PM me, would be interested if you have any title for sale.

#26 11 years ago

I spy a Data East Simpsons and Whitewater project game I kinda wouldn't mind having.

#27 11 years ago

You spy and DE Simpsons project and MY personal WH2O (if only I had room for 20+ pins in the house). Surprised you missed the AFM sitting right behind the WH20.

#28 11 years ago

pinballmaniac40 you know you want that Lethal Weapon 3 sitting there.

#29 11 years ago

@Marc. Wasn't enough colors for me to figure it out. Why is your personal WH20 doing in the middle of your project games? What do you have hiding in the other 3 corners? Can you share some pictures?

LOL Pinballfantexas..yeah, i do...i do...I did have one ya know?

#30 11 years ago

Have an X-Files project in one of the other corner?
JP would make a nice project for me.

#31 11 years ago

I'm sad because I only have 16 machines in the house and can't cram any more than 2 per bedroom the way I have things arranged. Happy that the garage holds 14 more waiting to get working, but that means my car has been parked outside since I filled the garage up. Guess can't have everything.

Half of my personal collecion sits out there in one spot or another: AFM, MB, Hercules, LOTR, Banzai, Safe Cracker will go there when it gets done. I only have room for 8 or so in the house. Currently in the hosue is Tron LE, SM, POTC, SS, MM, Baby Pac, Varkon, Joust, Grany and the Gators coming Saturday I have very low expectations for G&G but it seems fitting to have it next to Baby Pac.

Marc is a great guy and a straight shooter. I have bought two pins from him and am very happy. He has a huge presence at the Texas Pinball Festival each year. I highly recommend Marc and Elevation Games.

While I don't plan on using Pinside to promote my pinball sales (this a great forum for the collector side of me to enjoy) I do appreciate the kind words! Thank you Jim and Joey and enjoy your games!!

Two weeks ago was the first time my garage has seen a car in 6 years. Still, two weeks later, it catches me off gaurd to see wheels where they are susposed to be.
