Looking to see what people out there have as far as a Fathom for sale in my area. Looking for a decent example; not pristine or CQ. Fully or mostly working with limited playfield wear preferred (of course the less wear, the better). I was hoping to stay within 150 miles of zip 10598. Please PM me with what you have for sale. Here's hoping I've saved enough pennies. Thanks.

The silence is deafening. And not reassuring.

#3 4 years ago

Bump for good luck.

#4 4 years ago

I'll wish you luck as well. This is a hard one to find.

#5 4 years ago

Thank you, fellas. Same old story; should have jumped on a local one or two over the years as I saw them come up but could not really do so due to no funds. Now that I'm ready, I think it's going to be a real challenge finding one.

#6 4 years ago

Yes, good luck. Tough game to come by under those requirements, which I'm assuming is because you don't want to pay an arm and a leg.

#7 4 years ago

Yeah, not the easiest game to find. I'd love to find one on the West coast myself. It's one of those titles I'd be willing to ship for the right game, but so far the only one I've found that was worth considering was in Belgium, and that's a little far to ship.

#8 4 years ago

I was lucky and had a friend who had a Fathom. I told him that if ever wanted to sell it, to call me. Eighteen months or so later, he called me.

That's what it might take.

When I sold it 5 years later, I had 8-10 e-mails within a 24 hours and it was picked up within 10 days or so.

Fathom is on tons of wish lists.

#9 4 years ago

I would even go on a limb and say probably the most desirable Bally title of that era. Some might say Voltan (can't comment on gameplay), but in terms of availability vs desire, Fathom I think takes it.

#10 4 years ago

Yeah I'm figuring it's going to be a bit until I find one. I lucked out and found Centaur pretty quickly when I went looking for it but this doesn't look like it'll be as easy.

#11 4 years ago

I've got a CPR playfield and plastic set (w/topper) from the last run. I was planning to buy the next unrestored Fathom that popped up, but something else popped up first and I'm out of space again. Apparently I'm just too impatient and too impulsive to hold out for a rare game. Good luck with your search!

Most great 1980/81 machines with ~3K made have required (for me) 6+ months of patience while scouring all CL across the US, it's just not like hunting for a system 11:

* Centaur
* Black Hole
* Fathom
* Seawitch
* Embryon

These all took 6+ months of patience. I'd say set your sights on "1 year" and something should surface. People make "tough" decisions all the time involving letting these tough-to-find top titles go.

Yup I'm not in a rush. Still looking for a TX Sector and Paperboy as well. Hoping to close out 2014 with one more game in the arcade but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

#14 4 years ago

Yeah, the hunt is half the fun. I'd take a Fathom right now if I could, but I don't actually need it or anything. Keeping an eye out for it, following leads, checking out games, it's all part of the joy of pinball.

Not that I'd be mad if I could just locate any game I wanted in a snap, but it would take out a certain part of the fun.

Anyone have one in ANY condition that they'd sell?

Been looking for one myself for a while now. There's a gentleman in western MA who posted one recently through the BPA, he's also on Pinside (I believe his Pinsider name is BayouBilly if you want to reach out to him). I haven't seen it but i was told it was very nice. He's asking $5400 obo which is why I haven't grabbed it - unfortunately a little too nice for me at this time.

Thanks. I'll check with him, but I think he sold it. Not sure though.

I have it...

I had two of them. One is gone sold over the last 6 months, and I still have the second one. No repro parts, all original (well, except for the pop bumper caps and drop targets). Some touch up on the cabinet but looks fantastic. Everything inside and outside the cabinet put on the buffing wheel (so to those who know that's a whole day on just the disassembled coin door alone) and buffed to a mirror shine. Plays 100% - smooth as butter. $5,400 - zipcode 01430

#19 4 years ago

Mmm butter smooth fathom.

#20 4 years ago

I realized how stupid i was for putting mine up for sale and after many higher than offered sales , I pulled it off the market ....

its so pretty and fun to play and it took me 4 years to find that one ...

sorry to norcalrealitor for pulling it , so hard to let go ... I've sold a lot of things I wish I still Had ...

Ok well good to know there is one for sale "locally". I'll mull it over.

Coinopwarehouse (in MD) just posted one on Facebook for $3500...

#24 4 years ago

Unfortunately there are probably 4 of 5 of these just sitting in some dumb pin horders storage unit! Those guys drive me nuts!

Thanks. I shot them an email. Are there pictures attached to it? I don't use Facebook.

#26 4 years ago

Nevermind. Just made my wife "like" them so I could look at it. Thanks again. We'll see if it pans out.

#27 4 years ago

Fingers crossed for you. Lloyd Thoburn, the owner of Coinopwarehouse, is a really good guy. He does a high volume of business; he's more of a wholesaler than a retailer. In my experience, he's a straight shooter and his prices are often excellent. Just be aware that the game won't have been gone through. If you're okay with that, then you'll do fine.

Thanks again. Yup I've bought from him a few times; always been great to deal with. Got a couple of hard to find arcade games from him a few years ago.

I'm good with having to go through it myself. Being a -35 Bally, I'd have to do my usual repinning, recapping, adjustment, etc. anyway.

#29 4 years ago

I know of one local that a pinsider has. It is CQ and I don't believe he will sell it but I will let him know you are looking.

#30 4 years ago

I would suggest you take the one from Bayoubilly right away... they don't pop up very often and it seems like on Pinballclassifieds/here usually about $4000-$5500.. it's a popular title again right now and there aren't many repro play fields to be found anymore.

#31 4 years ago

You might get with Lloyd at coinopwarehouse, he posted one just today

Yup Lloyd and I are emailing about it now. Also asking him if he has a Paperboy for sale down there. Might as well try to kill two birds with one stone.

I think I know who you are talking about actually if it's the one just south of you in Westchester.

Yes it is.

#35 4 years ago

Looks like I just got myself a Fathom (and maybe a Paperboy too if he has one). Thanks again, mdolshan!

My pleasure! Glad it worked out.

What's funny, is I've seen probably 5 Embryons for sale in the last couple of months. I think I saw three at the York show.

Finally got a chance to breathe today and bring it down into the basement. In my haste, wouldn't you know it, I totally and completely forget to grab the damn legs and left them 4 hours away in Maryland; was trying to "turn and burn" and make it back home that night so my wife could get to a school board meeting. I'm an idiot. Lloyd is going to ship them to me, but for now it's up on a Harbor Freight table bolstered with milk crates. Needs a cleaning, rubbers, etc., but went over the mechanics and electronics quickly, and with just a fuse (first time in my life it was, in fact, just a fuse!), sprung to life. Playfield is very good except for top near rollovers where it's somewhat worn, but that's fine with me. I attached a video of my assistant giving her a try. Yes, the left flipper needs work. Backglass is perfect except for a small one inch spot in the very lower right corner that's starting to flake a bit (it was off so I could get to the boards, obviously).

#47 4 years ago

By the way, I missed out on NorCalRealtor's playfield, but if anyone else has one they're selling, I'd be interested. With the shape of the original playfield, would be a "nice to have" and not a "need to have", but I'll still be on the hunt.
