They are having a live auction on Sept. 22nd. There's a pre-auction sign up on ebay right now. I've never participated in one of those, but my guess is that you have to be cleared to bid starting on Sept. 22nd. The opening bid is set at $1500. The expectation is that it will go up from there, of course, which is why they give you a likely range.
In order to bid, you likely have to have some kind of feedback history - just a guess - as they could use that to whittle down everyone to people likely to pay when the auction ends.
This must be a new ebay feature.
