Hi,

I have been trying to search here, KLOV and with some general searching and can't really turn up too much.

I have a Champion Pub that will spontaneously have the the background music cut out (but other noises are there). You will beer the chime noise like when you first power on and then sounds and music will go back to normal. With the back glass off, I can see the LED turn off on the board when the reboot happens and then come back on.

- Is it true that since the game boots and it works - that the ROM's are fine and I don't really need to focus on corruption?

- From what I have been reading, many suggest to not shotgun repair components but on the other hand just getting a new board from Rottendog etc. because the originals were/are crummy. Thoughts?

I really just want to try and find some good solid troubleshooting on this but am having trouble finding resources so any input anyone can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, your ROMs are probably fine.

As with all such problems, first check power, both provided to the board and generated on board.

The originals aren't crummy. And the Rottendogs aren't any better than the original. Chris is taking you down the right path. Cold solder joints, caps, diodes, etc in the PS section of the sound bord.

Thanks - I figured logically that was the next step but really needed some additional confirmations. I'm going to pull the board today and see if I can find any cold joints etc.

What would the best reference be to determine test points and proper readings etc?

If you can't get your's worked out, the PinSound board is a viable alternative to a Rottendog.

I haven't added anything to the Wiki for this yet.
You are going to need to find the schematics.
This will get you started.
You should see about 9VAC between F501 and F502.
At pin 1 of the 5V regulator at U7 you should see 5VDC
At pin 3 of the -5V regulator at U8 you should see -5VDC
