Yes. Good question above since the games linked a re a mixture of preDCS and DCS games.

Which WMS model transformer do these comply with?

PM sent! thx

These fit in a usps large flat rate priority box and ship for about 20 bucks. I've shipped several wpc transformers and always in a large priority flat rate box.

#8 2 years ago

Op says they are p# 5610-13491-00

If they are then they only work with (12VAC sound) IJ, JD, Pinball_Circus, Popeye, STTNG

#9 2 years ago

So should work on all DCS sound board games correct? Just might have to change the connectors around on the voltage/transformer input lines if its the female 94' era style?

#10 2 years ago

I do believe so and I think you would need

I am not doing this to make money, I am trying to help the pinball community out. I am not a business.

I haven't been able to resolve the question about these transformers with the seller.
If they are built to deliver "DCS" level AC voltage, they will work for DCS games and all games after. Connectors may need to be changed
If they are built to deliver "preDCS" level AC voltage, they will damage the DCS sound board, and presumably the A/V board in WPC-95 games too.

Again... http://iobium.com/wpc_transformers.htm

Information for all...nothing more intended or implied.

I bought and paid for 2 transformers from him.

$250 each plus $100 shipping plus $10.10 insurance.

Total $610.10 He told me he needed to be paid friends and family because "he is not a business"

I sent $635 as regular paypal to cover the fee's since as a rule I don't send over $150 PP F&F to people I haven't done business with before.

I told him I hoped they would be packed well for costing $110.10 to ship them and that he should probably ship them in 2 separate boxes so they don't smash into each other on the trip to me. I also asked him if he could pick out 2 nice ones that didn't have what looked to be dents/marks in the top of them in the pictures he posted.

He sent me my money back and said "it sounds like you will not be happy with what you would get so I am giving you your money back"

Maybe other people will have better luck with him.

Well, it does say exactly that in his description. Wouldn't weight play a major factor in all of it other than even how well they are packed?

#17 2 years ago

The only way to ship a transformer without damaging it is to bolt it to a board and then build a box around the board to keep it from bouncing around in whatever external box is used. Someone sent a WhiteStar transformer to me in a medium flat rate "cube shaped" box. It bounded around in there and broke the plastic parts of the transformer. It still works...but dang...beat the snot out of it.

I truly wish the fellow and his customers the best.
I will say that the vibe from this one is not good.

A few months ago I bought a NOS WPC transformer from a Fellow pinsider.

It was shipped in a USPS medium flat rate box. It was bolted to a board the same size as the bottom of the box .

It was then set in the box with lots of packing around it and then another piece of wood the same dimensions as the box was set on top.

It arrived perfect with no damage.

$16.10 to ship anywhere in the continental U.S.

#19 2 years ago

I just found the box. Ironically it looks to be the same transformer that the OP is selling. I didn't realize that.

I honestly thought I bought a 5610-12835-00

kclements That sure looks identical to the one that the OP pictured. NOS? Something doesn't add up. Either yours is a reproduction, or the OP is selling NOS transformers (I doubt).

Eh I’ve had a few transformers sent in boxes to me and never had an issue. Most recently PBOH sent one packed tight with old stuffed toys and wrapped in a blanket.

@radium, Not at all. I'm genuinely happy that your shipment wasn't damaged.
Having had so many things shipped to me that were poorly packed, and consequently damaged in shipping, I always like to see extra care (and thinking) done to prevent this. I know that if I were to a transformer, I'd certainly take the steps necessary to prevent damage. A 30 pound (my estimate) piece of metal bouncing around in a flat rate box and being dropped, thrown, etc during shipment, will probably be damaged.

Even kclements transformer might have been damaged. There is no way to tell if the plastic that can be seen in one of the pics was broken prior to shipment or during shipment. While the cracked plastic doesn't affect operation, and we certainly don't "play the transformer"...I don't think that Stern would allow their transformer maker to be ship them without excellent protection. They probably have specially formed Styrofoam padding.

BTW...Gene Wilder in Willy Wonka is one of my favorite performances.

I have purchased and dealt with this seller in the past. I give him high marks for his pinball knowledge and his honesty.

I also have purchased one of these transformers and ran through tests in my Indiana Jones and it works great.

No doubt that it would in an Indiana Jones since IJ is a DCS game. Thanks for confirming.

I believe I answered Chris's question with the information below that I shared with him about a week ago...

"This transformer was manufactured to replace transformer part numbers 5610-12835-00 and 5610-13491-00. They were designed with the sound voltage to be +14V so it can work in either part number. The games this transformer was used in are:Black Rose Bram Stroker's Dracula Bride of Pinbot Creature from the Black Lagoon Dr. Who Funhouse Fish Tales Gilligan's Island High Speed 2Hot Shots Basketball Hurricane Indiana Jones Judge Dred Party Zone Pinball Circus Party Zone Popeye Slugfest 92 Star Trek the Next Generation Twilight Zone The Addams Family The Addams Family Gold Twilight Zone Whitewater.

One is currently working in my Fish Tales and one in my Twilight Zone."

It is my understanding that these are custom made transformers, and were specifically designed to work on both sound boards. To expand further, the Twilight Zone has had one of these transformers in it for several months with no issues. Hawknole stated above that one was put in an Indiana Jones and says it works fine.

So I ask, Chris, how long does it take to damage the sound board? What type of damage would you expect?

Also, thank you to kclements for providing the old ebay ad from these. I believe it was from Jim Knight out of Punta Gorda Florida. These are the same transformers, but this was not my ad.

Received my transformer today. I have not had time to break the packaging down to inspect it but it is well packed.

Quoted from Tokens:

The sound card probably won’t be damaged.
It may be possible to damage the speakers at higher volumes and the distortion that can be caused by underpowering the amp. Of course, the stock speakers were not great examples of hifi equipment.

As Martin says, “A DCS transformer can safely be used in a non-DCS game, but at the cost of lower sound amplifier headroom - distortion at higher listening levels.”

Back in the day, inexpensive stereos didn’t have enough power to drive bigger speakers. This caused distortion. We always avoided it.

Thanks for dropping in to provide info.

However, unless the transformer has two “sound power secondary taps”, it can not have been designed to work in both game systems and as those systems were originally designed. Designing it to work in DCS games and later, is a smart idea. But for preDCS games, it isn’t going to provide the Power that the amp is expecting, and therefore may not work as well as the original transformer.

That’s it. That’s all I’m pointing out.

I have not had time to test the transformer but it came well packed. I suspect that the seller is protecting himself from a chargeback and has enough demand to move them all to just kick any transaction he doesn't feel comfortable with (that has any risk).
