Hey all,
I am considering taking on a new project and was wondering if there were others interested in it or perhaps already working on something similar.

I have in mind to write some code on some form of embedded system (probably rasberry pi or beagle) that would replace the pre-dcs sound board in the wpc machines. The idea being that users could then upload new, high quality mp3 sounds to the board and that the new sounds would reinvigorate these old games. (Let's face it, the sound quality on these machines absolutely sucks by today's standards.)

I checked the code for just a very short period of time and I am not thinking this would be all that difficult. I was hoping that we could use this thread as an information sharing device for people who would want to work on such a project.

Quoted from PIN_GROOM:

I am interested in something like this- not to update the sound, but change the sounds entirely. I am looking at re-theming a game, and I think I can work around the rule set with my theme, which would really simplify things.
I have seen where someone used simple triggers to play music, but I would like to do fully integrated sound that goes with the different modes and such.
I don't know enough to know what I don't know WRT how the different sounds are triggered/ interrupted, so I'm curious what would go into this.
Also, $400? Yikes! That feels kinda strong for an updated sound board- maybe with good reason. IDK? Isn't that the projected cost of a Heckboard with the capability to run the whole machine? I may have misunderstood. ?

their board lets you change out all the sounds with custom made ones.
