For Sale: WPC replacement cabinets...standard and widebody

    Added: 2018-04-03 04:02:33 UTC • Ended: November 12th, 2018
    Condition: New (selling multiple, business)

    Price

    $ 575 (Firm)

    Price is firm

I built some WPC cabinets for a few projects I was working on. I tried to make a pretty close replica of the originals, with the exception of using a locking miter joint for the corners for a stronger cabinet and include heavy duty leg braces as seen in pictures. The legs, backbox hinges, speaker panel, translite and translite lock are not included. The translite lock has T nuts just like the originals, as does the cabinet neck. Cab speaker base has factory style through bolts.
I have a few done and am finishing up some widebodies as well (great for a virtual pin) I will be building more, but am moving in a week or two and it will take some time to get my new shop up and running.
These are exact size, but some holes are game specific (as is transformer location, shooter rod/button, and power box position) I can drill final holes once I know what game it is for.
These are not easy to build, I have to get around $575 per complete upper and lower cab with HD leg braces to make it worthwhile. Located in So Cal.... Probably wont find enough local buyers and I eventually will look into shipping costs.
I also can paint, ground braid and decal a cab for you...just drop in your playfield and components and your game looks new...
More info and pics to come soon...

Yeah, Im not sure how long I can make these at this price but I am gearing up to be able to make a few each month. Im sure eventually prices may adjust.
I have a system 11 cabinet laying around that I plan on replicating as well, those wont be available for a little while yet (after the move).
Here is a few pics of one of the cabs I built for a FT restoration...

    Quoted from Bryan_Kelly:

I might recommend using MDF for the cabinet bottom. The plywood you used is just plain ugly.
    Otherwise, it looks nice.

yeah, I can do it in MDF if someone wants...I actually like the plywood look but I think its because I love the look of natural woodgrain...I meant to seal the raw plywood in my FT cab but never got around to it.

While these cabinets look great and I wish I was closer, I do feel compelled to warn the community!

All jests aside, cosmokramer thanks for making these! It's a space that definitely needs a quality provider. Best of luck with the move and business venture!

For those who PMed me about flat pack shipping, I do plan on offerng these in DIY kits to keep shipping costs down. The hardest part is gluing them up square and drilling the leg bolt holes, I am working on a plan to make it easier.
Also, give me a couple of days and I can get some shipping costs together for those who asked...

    #13 6 years ago
    Quoted from lordloss:

Would shipping be via freight only or would the cheaper fastenal be an option?

there are a few fastenal locations near me, that will probably be the most economical way to ship

    Quoted from lordloss:

I was going to ask about this, MDF is the way to go.

I am finishing up a few widebody cabs this weekend...after those are done I will make a few standard size cabs with MDF bottoms and post updated pics

    Quoted from uncivil_engineer:

    Kramer,
Are you going to the Golden State Pinball Festival? Perhaps you could deliver a few to buyers there?

I wont be able to make it this year...bad timing for me.

    #16 6 years ago

Also, replacement heads are available if you dont need the entire cabinet...
    $160 for a wpc backbox

(Pics were taken before heads were completed...the internal rails for the speaker panel and glass support were not put in yet)

    Quoted from leonml:

Concern here is plywood warps. MDF won't.

Hmmm...I have been building with plywood for 30 years in the garage door business and never experienced plywood warping unless it gets saturated?

    Quoted from joetechbob:

MDF is heavy, weak and swells to shit if water even looks at it.

This has been my observation as well.

    Quoted from Atari_Daze:

Curious, would you sell just a throat?
The one on my Atlantis was shot.
Yes I could make one but you could too.
    Lmk

Sure, but since I dont have an example on hand, you would need to ship me your old one for a template.

    Quoted from Jopper:

Great job! I'd keep working with the ply. Nice and stable at the thickness you are using. As joetechbob says, "MDF is heavy, weak and swells to shit if water even looks at it." I've even seen MDF swell from just humidity. It's a cost cutting material that doesn't hold up.

I'm going to offer both, that way everybodys happy. Its the same amount if work for me so it doesnt matter. I love the look of natural woodgrain but others want the factory look.
Pics coming tomorrow of a few widebodies, then I will assemble some standards with MDF bottoms and post those as well.

    #22 6 years ago

Got a few wide bodies done...this one is being delivered tomorrow, its actually going to be a virtual pinball instead of a traditional williams....

I am picking up some more material later this week, including 1/2" MDF for the bottom.
    Pics coming soon...

I wont be able to offer finished cabinets until about mid summer, but yes I will offer silkscreened warning and patents #s

    Quoted from pinballinreno:

    Im in.
I need 3 or 4 finished cabs for a few projects.

    PM sent...

    #34 6 years ago
    Quoted from Pbpins:

Do you have any plans to build Classic Bally early solid-state cabinets such as Playboy, Mata Hari, 8-Ball, etc.?

Possibly...I have some friends who I have told that I would do some older cabs, I will build a few one offs to honor my obligations but honestly I am getting so much interest in the WPC stuff im not sure how many options I can offer and still keep on top of everything.
Right now I plan on knocking out some WPCs for some orders that are already placed, then I want to work out the details for the system 11s...
If I start to offer other models in any real numbers I will post it here.
Things will be moving slowly at first, but production will ramp up soon...my main focus is quality at this point. Feedback from the first few cabs has been positive, I want to continue in that direction.

    #35 6 years ago

Just an update: I have had more than anticipated interest in new cabinets, I have tried to get back to all the PMs (if I missed you I apologize, please reach out again). The cabinets I have completed are already spoken for and I have quite a few more to build, I will be contacting those who ordered in the last week and working out final details. Thanks to everybody who has contacted me or just had a compliment for my work, I appreciate it.

    For those asking:

Yes I am still planning on offering flat pack DIY kits, plan on those being available this summer

Right now focus is on WPC...when/if other cabinet styles are available I will announce it here

There is no pre order or deposit, payment due when cabs are complete

Yes, you can choose plywood bottom or MDF

The completed, painted, ground braided, decaled, warning/patent screened cab option wont be available until the Fall

I am moving in about a week. That, along with setting up new shop and filling orders already placed, means that any orders placed after today probably wont get started for about 4 weeks...feel free to drop me a line if you have questions

    #38 6 years ago
    Quoted from lordloss:

Any estimate on the shipping options?

Trying to come up with an affordable solution, should have more info by the end of the week

    Quoted from Strummy:

Hope you're moving to the Northeast so I can grab one of these.

    Hell no, it snows there.
Just dropping below 70 here requires me to dig out my "winter shorts"...

Working out the details for flat pack shipping, and getting some boxes to try out. Finally think I figured out how to put in the leg bolt holes in without assembling the cab first, this was the last challenge before I can start shipping DIY kits (not solved 100% but close) ...

    20180422_170124 (resized).jpg20180422_170124 (resized).jpg

Again , please bear with the delays for awhile longer. If you contacted me for an order, they will start to ship out in a few weeks...im looking forward to getting some feedback

In fact, if someone is local and wants to come pick up either a assembled cab or a DIY kit I will make you a good deal if you can use it pretty quickly so I can get some suggestions/comments...
I have all the data to drill for:
    FT
    TOM
    WH20
    TZ
    T2
    TAF
    JM
    RS

Lots of other titles coming soon, if you have a title in mind, and have your old cab to bring with you I can drill one in an hour. I want to get these in the hands of some local guys before shipping them around the country.

Ok so I spent the last month moving into the new house and getting my shop set up, as usual it took much longer than anticipated. I am getting the tools organized and am slowly beginning production.
A few cabs and heads have trickled out the last few weeks, here is a pic from a pinsider who needed just a head for his funhouse...perfect fit...

    a6161ac200b9f5189435df5540ec71c6d1b7d166 (resized).jpga6161ac200b9f5189435df5540ec71c6d1b7d166 (resized).jpg
And what everybody has been waiting for, the flat pack. I am shipping out the first flat pack kit to a pinsider who has been patiently waiting...he has agreed to assemble it as soon as he gets it so I can get some feedback, if all goes well then they will start shipping slowly at first...here is a shot of the first flat pack panels, after quite a bit of trial and error I worked out the process of routing the leg bolt holes...

    Quoted from Atari_Daze:

Glad to see you are getting back into the swing of things!
Atlantis neck worked out great thanks again!

Yeah, I think building that neck is what set me back 2 weeks!
    J/K.

    #52 5 years ago

$125 is a great price, I contacted them last month and they said they don't deliver a pinball cabinet. I tried again and just said it was a plywood box and they still would not take the risk? Im going to stop by there in a day or 2 and speak to someone face to face to try to get it resolved....
In the meantime the first proto flat pack is shipping today, I will get a flat pack shipping price and compare it to fastenals shipping of an entire cab (if I can get them to quote it) and then post final prices and shipping costs.
I'm not cutting any more pieces currently until I get some feedback on the kit shipping this week, and what is already in users hands...
Here is the first flat pack cab for a T2...

Well I got quotes on flat pack shipping today...95 lbs box from So Cal to Texas runs $120...ouch...
that's from fed ex or UPS (usps wont touch anything over 70 lbs)
anybody got any tips for cheaper shipping... otherwise it just makes more sense to ship completed cabs on pallets for $125 with Fastenal

    Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

That may have just broken the last concern I had.. do you think you could paint and decal
A flat pack as well, or is that too many steps?

that wouldn't work as the cab needs to be glued and nailed/stapled together along with filling and sanding, thus ruining the decals

    1 month later
    #62 5 years ago

The DIY flat pack is dead...F%@# UPS...

I shipped a flat pack cabinet to a pinsider who was kind enough to give it a try and give me some feedback. The box (95lbs) arrived with a crushed corner and damage to both side pieces of the lower cabinet and also the MDF bottom panel...my fault, really, I did not do a proper job in protecting the mitered edges and damage came when the box was dropped...OK, lets try again, I cut the replacement pieces and prep them for shipping (60lbs). But this time I use a combo of shrink wrap, foam, steel on the edges, more foam, more shrink wrap etc making a nice cocoon...this time they jack it up worse than the first set...
    Im done....

    Quoted from Ericpinballfan:

Perhaps the pre-built model will be best?

Yes, this will be the direction I am going from here on out.
Im taking a little break from this, I have invested so much time, money and effort into making the flat pack work that I am a bit burned out.
Im going to enjoy this holiday week, then next week I will start assembling completed cabs to palette ship.

So its time to revisit this thread, after having an electrician come out to add a few circuits in my new shop I find out that the supply wire and panel are not robust enough for my needs. A complete rewire is what its going to take to get it up to snuff. I trenched and ran 2" conduit and a water supply line from the house to the shop...

    20180721_102858 (resized).jpg20180721_102858 (resized).jpg20180804_121351 (resized).jpg20180804_121351 (resized).jpg20180805_115020 (resized).jpg20180805_115020 (resized).jpg
And also began to frame out a seperate room in the shop for disassembly/reassembly of games and benchwork repairs. This will have a garage door installed to seperate from the rest of the shop, keeping out sawdust etc....

    20180804_204933 (resized).jpg20180804_204933 (resized).jpg20180804_205100 (resized).jpg20180804_205100 (resized).jpg
    #72 5 years ago

Although the flat pack is what people want, its just not going to happen. But the WPCs are coming along nicely... I pulled the pre cut parts from the rack and quickly put together a head for TOM...
    20180816_202501 (resized).jpg20180816_202501 (resized).jpg20180816_202537 (resized).jpg20180816_202537 (resized).jpg
I also spent an incredible amount of time building a system 9 cab for a friends Sorcerer, I think this is the last non-WPC cab I am going to build for awhile as I have quite a few WPCs to complete and they dont take nearly as much time...the base game was termite eaten to the point that I didnt think it would even stay together while I used it as a template...

I do think shipping via fastenal will be possible.
I made an error in announcing these for sale before I was properly prepared to build them in numbers... now I have quite a bit of local interest that has been keeping me busy so shipping is probably something that I wont be doing for awhile

I think I will change the title of this thread as it is a bit misleading right now, when things ramp up then I may change it back.

However if there is anyone in the southwest who wants to pick on up we can get that done

    #78 5 years ago

Well because this started as a for sale ad It wont let me change the thread title or first post..perhaps the best would be to close this one and start another one that more accurately reflects what I can offer at this time...

    #80 5 years ago
    Quoted from arcademojo:

Ask a mod to move it to a different sub forum.

Frankly I was a bit too ambitious at the beginning of this thread...perhaps a new one that more accurately reflects what I can provide will avoid confusion.
