Just brought a Popeye into the collection (there's no accounting for taste, I know...) It's running LA-4 ROMs, and they look to be factory original.

I'm having an issue with the Jackpot insert not lighting during gameplay. The Jackpot insert lights in attract mode in time with the rest of the lights, and also properly lights during lamp test while displaying the correct lamp location on the DMD. When Jackpot is qualified during gameplay, it doesn't light up at all. All wires to the lamp are connected securely and chained properly to the next lamps, and all other inserts on the matrix work correctly.

I'm wondering if this is a code issue, or if anyone else has come across this problem in WPC era games.

Thanks

Did you also check the diode on the lamp socket?
Bridge the diode with a piece of wire and the lamp should light up.
If it does the diode is broken.

Definately not a coding error.
The lamp works in PinMame, thus it should also work in the game.

Sometimes they can just be tightened or adjusted by hand.
If that doesn't work, bridge the diode (as mentioned above).

It's not the diode unfortunately. I replaced it to be safe though. I dont think it would have worked in attract mode or test if the diode were bad.

Again, the insert flashes in time during attract mode, lights up in time during in-game lightshow and lights in test mode. It just won't light during the game during multi ball when it's supposed to be lit.

I would do a complete test of the playfield switches to make sure you can achieve Jackpot which you said you are able to do but since the bulb works in attract mode and in bulb test, either the game isn't reaching Jackpot or it's a programming fault on that particular ROM version. Previous caller said it works on pin Mame so software is ruled out.

Yes, Jackpot can be achieved and advances at it should for multiple jackpots.

I'll look into ROM replacement next, unless anyone else has ideas?

LED or incandescent?

And are you talking about the Animal Jackpot?
