Hi all -

I just finished cleaning up some scary-looking headers on J120 and J115 on my Sample Funhouse driver board. I consider myself really lucky that I only needed to put in one jumper wire, from pin 7 on J120 to F110. It just now occurs to me though, do I need a heavier jumper wire for a connection to a fuse? The wire I used is AWG #24, and the length of the jumper is about an inch. Is that going to be enough? One the one hand, it seems like it should be beefier, since it's being protected by a 5 amp fuse. On the other hand, the wires leading away from J120 all appear to be #26. What is the "Right way" to do this repair?

Thanks!

Your fuse is a 5A SB and your wire is rated for 3.5A, so I would say yes as the wire should technically melt before the fuse blows, of corse the wire can also carry more current than its rated for so its going to be close. Personally I would use no less that 20AWG for the jumper, that way the wire rating > the fuse rating.

EDIT: Blown fuse is going to be better than a melted wire every day of the week.

Other thoughts ... on an expensive board like this one, its best to leave difficult repairs to the experts so you don't have any jumpers at all.

That's a good point. I'm hardly new to soldering and board repair, but it's probably worth it to make sure it's done exactly right.
