Thank you

Not so much a mod, but an alternative to the impossible to find LM323K.
There are a lot of New LM323K available on ebay from the US, China, Uk and elsewhere. Is it a specific LM323K that is not readily available?

You can search Pinside for discussions - but consider that an upgrade relative to the infamous reset issues....the LM323K's are 'available' but there is a ton of issues regarding quality and correct voltages/tolerances, etc....simply said - they aren't available anymore in the way you'd want.

Many are counterfeit parts that don't actually have the same specs as an LM323K. Some will function, some will fail early (poor quality or not rated for 3A), some won't operate correctly (ie, wrong input or output voltage), and some won't work at all.
Finding a *genuine* LM323K with the advertised/expected specs is difficult.
[edit]: It looks like Texas Instruments is manufacturing them...for $60-$70 each.

they are almost all fake. They take a 5 cent jelly bean Chinese 1a 7805 die and put it in the 3a metal can. Initial tests show it works fine under a minimal load, just don't try and pull more than one amp or it goes into over current shutdown.
If you are buying LM323K from the Chinese, make sure you are getting old stock. Even old desoldered old stock would be better than the new fakes ones.
