just picked up a MM and i get a speaker pop/crack at the beginning of ball, starting with ball 2. it varies in intensity. last night, i swapped out the backbox speakers with an older WPC set i had. no improvement; maybe a little worse. i noticed the grounds for the speakers are attached to the speaker grills. is that normal?

something on the av board?

i get a pop when i go into test, also.

swapped the av board with another machine: same thing. swapped the ribbon cables: same. disconnected dmd: same.

roms, cpu board?

if it's very common, there's gotta be a fix.

the shop i got this thing from are coming out tomorrow morning with my original board. they left me with their TOTAN board after their first trip; same thing happening. they said they've made some progress. i'll let you guys know.

tried a third board, new sound roms and game rom: no dice. still happening randomly at start of ball 2 and 3, and randomly going in and out of test.

disconnected gi to eliminate some led's from the equation. going in and out of test you'll see a bit of ghosting from some of the insert lights. this is the second set of insert lights that have been in, however.

does anyone have the 1.09 home rom with this issue? i'm using the 1.0 factory.

i should probably try that home rom. where did you get yours? sounds like john wart has had better days. i see a 1.09b and c on ebay.

actually, i have 1.09 on mine now. they must have burnt me a copy of that rom.

is it okay to move the speaker ground off the speaker grills to the actual speaker? all my other games are like that.

i went ahead and moved the grounds to the screws mounting the speakers: no improvement.

i used some scrap metal i had to make clips; i guess it's aluminum. that should work, right?
