Quoted from RobT:Good stuff.
Let me get this out of the way: TOTAN needs a code update way more than CV does!
CV rom 2.0 is cool but TOTAN can use some work also need a combo plunger

Quoted from Purpledrilmonkey:Bingo.
Code or devices that modifies or interprets the stock implementation of the factory ROM on the fly (ColorDMD, or even Eli's Tron kit) or at startup (Game Genie) have been found to be legal in past cases. What isn't legal is distributing a modified ROM imaged produced by such devices... everyone needs to buy the device, not the modified game or code if they want the added benefits.
what about all of the NES / SNES and other customs hacks of games that are distributing IPS patches that you are to do to the roms on your own?
What if they put out an update that you need to patch to the wms rom files and burn your own rom chips?
Quoted from djb_rh:Seems like the contention is mostly from the fact that there are a few projects that happened before there was any legal avenue for this. Nobody pursued those and they matured. Now a new system that those projects don't really fit in is *likely* to become available "soon" and all the sudden those projects are being threatened much more heavily.
Might be nice to just grandfather the existing projects into legality to create some community good-will somehow and call it a day on those. *shrug* Otherwise, well, it seems the ugliness is going to continue and nobody benefits.
Or maybe it's just CCC. The difference with BOP 2.0 is they wanted to sell it and believe they can make money doing so. Eric never wanted to sell CCC and just did it for fun and it exploded. Now he, and those running it, are getting threatened. But it doesn't HAVE to be that way.

that same kind of BS happens with other stuff. With PC games with mods / remakes some people don't make a issues out of it others make a big deal out it and the end uses are the ones who get hurt.
