My upper flipper on the mini playfield abruptly got stuck about halfway during a game.
Pulled the glass and pushed it back to resting position without too much effort.
Started another game with glass off and the flipper functions but very weakly and doesn't want to return to it's resting position.
I already checked the shaft nut with a nutdriver as it's pretty accessible and it was secured. (not slipping on shaft)

Before taking the upper playfield off to inspect, is there anything else I can try before that?

Can't you reach much of it underneath without lifting the spinning house playfield ?

Check for worn/cracked coil sleeve, weak return spring, worn sharp or mushroomed edge on plunger inside coil sleeve.

Maybe remove the flipper coil stop and sleeve.
Its possible that its just dirty and jamming due to black dust accumulation.

See if the coil stop is "cupped", file down as needed.
A cupped coil stop will match the plunger end too closely and lock together.
File off any mushrooming on the plunger.

All of this maintenance can be done with just an allen wrench and a file.

If that solves the problem then go ahead and check and clean the other flippers as well.

It seems that the current coil stops may be a little softer than in the past. Possibly to get a longer plunger life. JMHO...

Ed,
This is the "other" mini playfield, the castle mini playfield flipper.
Sorry, I see I didn't really specify...

Thanks for the input.
Game is HUO. I doubt that kind of wear / damage exists yet. I can see the spring still attached.
The issue didn't happen gradually either.
During a game I noticed the flipper stuck halfway. After the game I pressed it down with the glass off. It seemed to work ok
for 5-10 games after that but never like it was designed to work originally. Then it started to slowly drop and hang mid stroke again.
It doesn't have the umph to even get the ball halfway to the castle doors now.
I'd say the pin has 500 plays on it.

the castle mini playfield flipper.

The rear of the manual has instructions to remove the mini playfields.

Closer inspection with flashlight shows the three coil lugs and plastic coil plate moving around with the flipper movement so it looks like the mini playfield is going to come off to fix.
I'll let you know what I find.

Update: My findings & I have a re-wiring question.... in my haste, I did not take pics.

The coil stop plate had come off completely. The odd thing is I couldn't find the two set screws that held the coil stop plate anywhere (at least yet). Also the coil sleeve was missing (had a new one of these too).

So put back the flipper assy with new coil sleeve and coil stop fastened down with (2) lock hex screws and (2) locking split washers.

In re-connecting the wires, I'm not sure this is correct (see pic).
The RED position has no connector to plug into it (?) and the BROWN one is near the front, next to BLACK?

So have what I have showed in the pic correct?

Thanks!
CuJo
