Hello, I have an interesting problem with my WOZ EECLE that has had me stumped for a few hours.

When the game attempts to boot, it gets into an endless loop between a series of errors or notifications and the game will not start.

Based on previous postings, I decided to try to do a fresh install of the latest version (7.04). I've created 4 different flash drives using both a Macintosh as well as a Windows machine, and nothing will take (Dongle Not Found error). I do get, what seems to be the same USB error when trying to perform the update.

The first three screen shots below are the boot sequence with just the hard drive. Screen shots 4-6 are the errors I get when trying to perform the full update.

Other things I have done include:
1. Reset the RAM on the motherboard
2. Bypassed the dongle and plugged right into the USB port on the motherboard.
3. Replaced the CR 2032 battery on the motherboard (when game was running).
4. Reset the SATA cables on the SSD drive.

Not sure if I am having bad luck with USB drives, but I've never had an issue updating this machine over the past 9 years.

Any ideas before I reach out to JJP (who I understand is extremely busy).

Thanks!

A few thoughts.

Did you plug the dongle back in ?

USB sticks you tried, 8GB or 16GB ?

If you downloaded from USA mirror maybe try the other mirror.

Maybe bios settings are wrong after the motherboard reset.

Lloyd, thank you for chiming in.

The game seems to be going through the proper boot sequence so I think the BIOS is fine.

I tried both Europe and USA mirrors. Checksums on both versions were inline.

I tried two 4 gig sticks, a 16 and a 32. All different brands. The game recognized all USB sticks but then arrived at the “Dongle Not Found” screen.

There seems to be a checksum issue on the USB. Could this be an issue with that unique key that’s plugged into the other USB port?

I had the exact same error message on my POTC when it showed up out of the blue. I put in a ticket with JJP and they suggested the SSD was going bad. I ordered a new one (64 Gig). I used several different types of thumb drives and was able to get it installed using RUFUS. Just a thought. Fortunately the drives are not expensive and worth a shot

I picked one of these up for $12 when the SSD in my Dialed In crapped out.

Easy to put in. Do a full install. Worked perfect.

Thanks guys. I will give a new SSD a try.

As for USB drives to install the update, any specific brands you recommend that are known to work on JJP games?

I have a few PNY 8GB ones I use just for that.

I have the PNY USB and new SSD coming today.

I will update once I do the swap.

I've also opened a case with JJP.

Just a follow-up on this. JJP asked that I send in my security key USB device for possible repair or re-programming.

New SSD, multiple USB drives, etc. did not work.

I will update once I receive key back and let everyone know if this is solved.

Waiting for your report. I have to deal with the same thing myself.

I just updated my woz and can send you the thumb drive if you need it. There were error messages that appeared during the download to the game , but the upgrade installed correctly.

Ok, this ended up being a bad security dongle. I ended up having to send in the USB security dongle to JJP to have it programmed and replaced.

Has me a bit concerned about longevity of these games. Without the ability to program these security dongles these games become “bricks” when they fail.

I guess we better keep buying JJP games so they stay afloat, then!
