On almost every DMD and newer pinball game I've played (in fact, I can't think of one that's not), if the skill shot is similar to WOZ, i.e., you pull the plunger and you want the ball to go down the blinking skill shot lane, you can use the flippers to change which lane is blinking so you can be awarded the skill shot. But on my game on the skill shot, hitting the flippers does not change the lane that's blinking. Is my game acting normal? I find it almost hard to believe you can't change the blinking lane on the skill shot because during the game (past the skill shot), if the ball is at the top in that area to go down a lane, you can use the flippers to change which lane is lighted so that you can get the ball to go down the non-lighted lane to increase the bonus value. Just wanted to check to be sure my game is acting normal. I'm on the latest software by the way, 6.61. Can anyone confirm either way? Thanks,

You cant change light on woz skill shot. Whatever is lit at the top is the lane you are shooting for. Other skill shots on woz is when you let ball roll back down right side without going all the way up. Hitting witch starts wicked witch hurry up, there is target between pop bumpers which is skill shot and a random letter on crystal ball can be skill shot that is lit in blue before you launch ball.

yeah all the Wizard of Oz 's I've played are the same way, you have to sometimes nudge to get the ball to bobble down the correct lane. after the skill shot up there you can change the lanes while the ball is coming off the pops to increase your bonus

I usually try for that skill shot first, if I miss & short plunge then I try for the witch. If I plunge to hard I how to get "capture Dorothy" lit

I have hit the target in the haunted forest a few times

the random "ball" letter I hit a couple of times and it's pretty tough , also risky as your flipping towards the out-lane but give a nice award

I recommend plunging to the haunted forest to start Haunted modes, and if a haunted mode is already running then do the witch shot.

you can also try and hit the lit letter of the "ball" lights to instantly qualify the crystal ball multiball. this is the most valuable points skill shot, and if you drain out the left you get all those points from the pop bumper drain and the ball back in the shooter lane

what i do is short plunge and hold up the right upper flipper and then try and nudge the ball over to the left and hit the target.

I honestly play to get to SOTR rather than for points, same for playing LOTR trying to get to Valinor. Getting through modes is more fun to me.

You're absolutely correct -- and it's unfortunate that so many DMD pins went this route, because there isn't much skill involved in doing a flipper button lane change. There's much more skill in the combined techniques of measuring your plunge, and then using whatever nudge is needed to bounce the ball into the lane needed for the skill shot. These lane-based true skill shots (no lane-change allowed) were prevalent in EM and early SS pins.

Thankfully, some of the newer pins like WOZ have gone back to a hands-free lane skill shot. It's a nice touch, in my opinion, and encourages players to nudge. Transformer is the first of relatively new pins I can think of that did this. Granted, TF still allowed you to do a lane-change to get a skill shot, but the "hands-free" skill shot awarded more points than a lane-change-enabled one.

^^^ This, trying to hit the lanes is a waste of time IMHO

Depends on where things are really. When first starting a game I go for a full plunge. On a good one I can get dorothy ready, qualify a haunted mode and then hold both flippers and nudge to drop into the collect and start which then returns to the left flipper where you can shoot the orbit and capture dorothy.

When it comes together thats a nice amount of progress that can be made in just a few seconds time.

Otherwise I’m typically going for thw witch skill shot, the haunted skill shot is too hit and miss for me.
