nope 6v should be fine,
in fact they are over driven at 7.5v
you have a bad cable or board.
could be a faulty micro usb cable on the io board, otherwise led test all on white and see from what led on is not displaying correctly

you also need to make sure the connections are correct red and green marked
these really are pretty simple to trouble shoot
in the menu there is a map layout of what boards go in what order.
stop bypassing and deactivating leds and start from scratch from the first led onwards, what is the last LED that works correctly from the beginning in order, the last one working is faulty
