Worth a read to see how Canasta has integrated the LCD screen into their game.

I read that article the other day, and while it is cool they are trying different things, it just looks cheap to me. I don't think it is necessarily the materials they used, it is just the artwork/artwork package that looks poorly-done and "knock-off" to me. I don't recall the price on one of these, but it can't be more than 3 grand or so, right?

New Canasta is an odd machine! Played it at the UK Pinball Party. The game itself sucks but the way it's designed and made is very interesting...the article is worth a read...

Agreed. There are some innovative features, but it plays and feels like a homemade machine. Lets hope jjp do a more professional job!

I find it quite strange and disappointing that they chose to use the same playfield layout as Canasta '86. It was outdated then, and is extremely outdated now with no ramps, toys etc.

I know this is about the LCD, but I just can't get over the simplistic playfield.

Quoted from Jnewton:

4,000 Euros, current exchange rates put that at around $5,350 US dollars. Too much as the article mentioned.

I think that New Canasta was more of a product experiment than anything else. That's a LOT of new technology to put into a single machine, particularly for a company that's never done pinball before. It kinda makes sense to keep the playfield simple, and make sure they are actually capable of producing machines at all.

Their 2nd machine will be the real test, to see if they are willing to push the limits of the playfield too.

I liked how they made some of the targets and switches modular, but I can't imagine the end cost of a modern style machine set up like that.

Isn't some of this technology stuff that Gomez was talking about in one of his recent speeches? I know he had mentioned getting rid of the seemingly endless amounts or wires in games. I was hoping that would equate to the "softening" of prices, but after seeing how much this costs, I guess I can forget that

+1 The LCD is a make or break for WOZ for me.

Wait. Where did you hear about Stern doing this?

I am pretty sure at expo, Gomez said that dot matrix was going away, probably to coincide with some of the technical/system changes he talked about....Probably this upcoming year, around or after the rumored Avengers?

I thought they said early 2013, not surprising either way.

I read the article, lots of interesting ideas. I do know that the 18.5" samsung is nothing like a 26"Wells Gardner monitor. That alone says a lot about what they are trying to do and what they are willing or able to put into the machine. i feel they tried but the game choice was not good and I do not feel they have the capital to go all out on it.
