My brother (who aint a Pinsider) just ordered his first pinball machine, a WOZ 75th anniversary edition, which will be here in about a week.
Since he is totally new to the hobby I will try and help him out, even though im kinda new myself..

Anything in particular we should think about?
Any "must have" mods? Cliffys etc.
Known issues?

Gimme your opinions

Yesterday my brother's WOZ finally came. Went to his house to help set it up, but boy what an anticlimax that was...

The playfield glass has broken into a million pieces and the left side off the cab and the backbox has broken loose. Probably more damage but thats all we could see. We stopped unpacking when we noticed the damage.

What we think has happend is that the truck must have lift it up and transported it on the "wrong side" (not following the instructions on the box). Leading to too much weight on the outside of the package, causing it to drop crashing into the ground.

Quoted from paynemic:

That’s terrible! I’m sure the freight people will have to cover it. Hope it gets cleared up fast for you.

Quoted from merccat:

What a bummer! Freight companies can be a PITA to deal with after delivery, I hope you noted the damage before the driver left.

Call JJP as they have more leverage with them than you would. Chances are if not already noted the shipper will try to claim that the signed delivery slip is proof they delivered it “undamaged” and probably wont even talk to you.

Edit:
Not saying hope is lost... just I would first go through JJP since they have the relatiotwith the shipper that can give them a lot more headway handing it for you.

Quoted from bobukcat:

OUCH!! That box looks like it was on the deck of the container ship during the voyage! I certainly hope they make it right by you quickly, what a total letdown.

The game shipped from Germany to Sweden, so there are actually more than one freight company who has handled this package. So far none of them has taken any responsibility for the damage clearly one of them has caused

Guess we have to try our luck with JPP.

Quoted from rubberducks:

Did you arrange the transport, or did Freddy's? Assume it was purchased from there if it was NIB.

It was bought from 4fun (Sweden) but shipped directly from Freddy's to our home adress, so they arranged the transport.

A few pages back I made a post about our WOZ that was damaged when it arrived.
Yersterday we got our replacement and this time everything was a-ok.

The playfield is a bit dark for my taste though, need to add some light..

Sadly it took a totalt of 4 games before a new problem occurred, the right castle door wont open

Quoted from ASOA:

Congrats on the new game!

My WOZ RR was dark once. She is brighter and more cheerful now.

Pin Stadium?

Had some problems with my right castle door not opening. Since this was a well known issue it was easy to troubleshoot. The screw was loose.
Tighted it up using loctite and everything worked again. But it only lasted for about a week, now I got the same problem again.

So now when I get the playfield off again, is there anything else I can do to make this screw hold tight other than what I did last time?

Since our WOZ first came we have had lots of things that just hasnt gone our way. Delivery damage, castle doors acting up, no manual in the package, problems with resets etc..

Another thing thats bothering me is what the playfield looks like under the playfield protector.
Hard to catch it with a camera, but its just plain dirty under there. Even more noticeable under the inserts when they light up.

Is this really acceptable with a new out of the box game? Anyone else had the same experience?

Did you get the Ruby Red version? That's the only one that comes with the manual.

I did.

#5205 6 years ago
Quoted from moonduckie78:

Did it come from Automated? If so.......I'm not surprised.

If automated means that the protecor was installed in the factor, then yes.
Even so, I still think one could demand a better job than what I got.

#5207 6 years ago
Quoted from moonduckie78:

No, I was referring to Automated Services in CT, a JJP distributor. Lucky for you, it sounds like your WOZ didn't come from them.

Ops, my bad. But no, it came from "Freddy’s Pinball Paradise" in Germany. All machines in Europe is coming from there.

#5236 6 years ago
Quoted from woody76:

Playfield protector? JJP does not ship with playfield protector. You should probably complain to whoever put that on the game. Freddie?

Really? Thats strange, cause we sure do have one on. Maybe the distributer installed it.
But you may be right cause JJP answerd me "Our data base don't show a protector being installed here, but I'll double check.."

Just waiting for a respons right now.
