Quoted from Palmer:

I have a couple of questions for WOZ owners. I am looking to trade my TWD Pro plus cash for a WOZ Standard Edition.
1. Are there any issues with the standard edition? I heard something about light boards. The guy I am looking to trade with says a few of the smaller boards and one of the larger boards were replaced.
2. Is 6800 a fair value for a HUO (second or third owner) standard edition WOZ with no issues?
3. Do you think WOZ would complement my Hobbit or would it be too similar? (I know a subjective question)
Thanks!

Do it! Very different games, both are superb

I'm still searching for a quality shooter rod for my WOZ RR. The colored balls I've seen don't impress me like the gold shooter ring on Hobbit or the Aztec coin on POTC. What are other WOZ owners using for custom shooter rods on their games? I just want to replace the plain black shooter knob with something that blends with the game and isn't tacky. Suggestions?

#6387 5 years ago
Quoted from capguntrooper:

Why not go for color changing!
[quoted image][quoted image]

That looks fantastic, where can one purchase this shooter rod? The color changing effect would fit perfectly with this game.

Quoted from capguntrooper:

BladeFury is the pinsider I got it from

Thanks for the lead, I'll contact BladeFury directly regarding the color changing shooter. Much better than a plain black knob or painted ball

#6393 5 years ago

Thank you good Sir. Will order one up for the Ruby Red, does that shooter work on JJP games? The description doesn't indicate so.

The 'A' letter LED on my WOZRR is not behaving correctly. It's lighting the wrong color or not at all. I put the game through all of the lamp and flasher tests and this is the only light on the game I see with an issue. Is the RAINBOW lamp board defective or is the individual LED bad? Any help would be appreciated:

#6536 5 years ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

The individual LED or little driver chip is most likely bad.
Get a replacement board if under warranty.
Its possible someone here can repair that also.

OK. I'll look into getting a replacement Rainbow lamp board. Thanks

#6538 5 years ago
Quoted from coz6:

a WTB might also work this board can be expensive those that have done the conversion for a 2.0 kit might come off the old board for a ton less than what you will pay JJ. I got an entire game set for the cost of one big board. This board is 219.99 plus shipping ouch

OK, I appreciate the heads up coz6. I'll probably do as you suggested and search for a good used Rainbow board. My WOZRR was produced just before the 2.0 lighting changes.

#6540 5 years ago
Quoted from finman2000:

I had a rainbow board go bad. Supposedly, not many of them go bad. I would suggest calling JJP support. They won't charge you full retail for a replacement if they take your board on trade-in and can repair it.

Thanks for that info. I do see the Rainbow board listed on the JJP site for $219:

http://store.jerseyjackpinball.com/Parts/Wizard-of-Oz-Parts/W10-.html

I’ll contact JJP support tomorrow to see what they can do.

I got around to installing the PinGraffix side art decals on my RR yesterday. Super nice mod, though a bit nerve racking to install and need to be very careful not to damage them. This is still the prettiest game out there IMO.

Wow those do look nice. I have ZERO confidence I would not destroy them.

Lol, yeah, I’ve torn and crinkled more of these $80 decals than I can recall. I screwed up 4 sets in a row on different games one day, but now I’m getting better at installing them wet and keeping the playfield and metal slide/support bracket things from tearing into them. Super happy i didn’t mess up these WOZ decals

Does anyone make a high quality custom shooter rod for WOZ? I noticed the color changing shooter rods are no longer available. Not interested in the character head shooters or the plain red ball. Also, has anyone come up with a quality decal/sticker or magnet for the blank square on the coin door? Looking to dress up the front of my RR a little.

#9138 4 years ago

Thanks gents. I just went ahead and ordered the Modfather ruby red shooter rod and housing:

https://modfatherpinball.com/products/woz-ruby-red-shooter-housing-shooter-pincup?_pos=11&_sid=00bd4fdd7&_ss=r

I don't need a separate volume control, if anyone has a high quality decal or magnet for the blank coin door square, let me know. The start button is plain too, I'll search around to see if there's anything available to jazz that up. My hobbit right next to WOZ is all pimped out, but the WOZ is still pretty plain. Time to dress it up.

#9140 4 years ago
Quoted from harryhoudini:

We have a start button we are working on that will have various designs and fit all JJP games (designs obviously for each game). Still working out the designs and fitment.
Why call attention to the blank spot in the door with added decoration? The panel hides it pretty well, IMHO.

Thanks and looking forward to seeing your JJP start buttons. The little details are what take these pins to the next level and the JJP pins are something special and deserve the upgrades. $220 witch upgrades are nice, but the front of the game is what I see most often and want it to pop. I’ll probably just leave the coin door alone unless I find a high quality WOZ decal or magnet to place in the blank square. BTW, if anyone has a flying monkey mod they want to sell, shoot me a PM.

Careful when you bolt in the legs with that cup. I have the green one and it cracked the paint off pretty good. May want to add a washer or something.
Also, color changing shooter rod... https://cointaker.com/products/led-lit-shooter-rods

Good to know, but I didn’t order the pincup as I don’t drink when playing or care for the look. That mini corn field mod looks interesting, though. Lots of mod potential with this game, one could get really crazy and add thousands in mods. Reminds me of Tron, self control is a must

I have a RR, bought new in 2014, 7.5 boards, no issues. Mine is #34, the very first run. I can't help but question the new ones.

Same here 2015 RR with 7.5 and no issues. I heard the 2.0 lighting is dimmer, no thanks. Had to replace the Rainbow board, wasn’t a big deal at all. There will be plenty of used 7.5 boards available for years to come if needed. Love my WOZ, still the prettiest game in the lineup

Lermods lighting mods installed in backboard, trough and haunted forest. Really nice improvement and I can actually see the playfield now. Still the prettiest game IMO.

I have no complaints with the Lermods LEDs, the game was way too dark before and now I see details I never saw before and the new lighting has reignited my interest in playing WOZ. It’s a late 2015 WOZRR with the 7.5 boards, they’ve always been super bright. Such a beautiful pin, it’s definitely a keeper! Looking for a monkey mod if anyone has one for sale.

Melted my first witch tonight. I was so excited!
Then I realized I was still miles away from getting to Over the Rainbow. Just curious how many in this forum have reached it? I feel like it could take an hour easily just to get there.
And for those that have, is the payoff great? (ie. lightshow, music, etc)

Great job, melting the witch is one of the most amazing sequences in pinball...it never gets old. Good luck reaching SOTR, I would guess only a handful of pro players have ever reached or completed the wizard mode on factory settings. Always something to look forward to, like most JJP games!

I installed the crystal ball mod and carefully moved the LCD screen with microSD card from the original crystal ball to the new one. It was displaying intermittent gibberish on the ball after the mod, now the crystal ball doesn’t turn on at all. I already checked the connector, reseated the SD card, etc. Wishing I hadn’t installed this mod as the crystal ball worked perfectly before. What are the chances that the small OLED board with the MicroSD card failed, is that common? I’ll check the associated fuse and test voltage at the power connector next. Any help would be appreciated.

http://store.jerseyjackpinball.com/Parts/Wizard-of-Oz-Parts/OLED-Screen-.html

#11888 3 years ago

Did some troubleshooting. F710 fuse was blown so I replaced it. Not sure if that was related or not. So the crystal ball OLED screen just displays the “4D Systems 2012” boot or device hardware info depending on which way I plug the connector in. It doesn’t display the animations like it used to. I checked voltages on the connector pins and they’re all 5 volts except for the black ground wire. I tried reseating the SD card and it makes no difference. I don’t know which row of pins or connector orientation is correct if someone can post a pic for reference.

Since the OLED screen is very dim and not evenly lit, I’m pretty confident the screen is damaged and will need to be replaced. Coincidental that this happened right after I moved the screen over to the new mount when installing the glass crystal ball mod, maybe I connected it backward or handled it too much.

Let me know if any of you have seen this issue before. Failing that, I’ll just order a new screen from JJP for $119

Quoted from marioparty34:

I was going to install my crystal ball mod today. Now you got me scared.

I think you'll be OK, just make sure you take pics of the connector orientation and pin rows used. The back of the OLED screen has two rows of pins and I lost track of the connector orientation and row of pins used. If you could snap a close up picture of the connector on the back of the crystal ball, that would be helpful. In either case, I'm almost sure my OLED screen is just damaged and probably just coincidence it happened after the crystal ball mod install. Take your time with the install, there are lot of small parts and the installation is tedious. Looks fantastic when it's working, though!

The Pinball-Mods flaming witch mod is bad ass! Makes the witch very present in the game unlike the stock figurine in a tube. Lighted Winkie target is also a killer mod, both highly recommended. Pinstadiums will be next mod on my Ruby Red, this game is just too dark. After buying a Wonka LE with Pinstadiums, I’m a believer now for darker games

#12147 3 years ago

What’s the difference between Steve’s witch and Pinball mods? Is it the bricks around the witch? Just curious why one would choose one over the other

#12151 3 years ago

Interesting, thanks. Will do some research and compare, but I doubt I’ll rip out the Pinball Mods witch because it’s bad ass!

#12156 3 years ago

Which Titan or other full rubber kit is the cats meow for a Ruby Red WOZ? I need to replace a broken sling rubber under the munchkin playfield and might as well do all new rubber while I’m in there. Which rubbers play and look amazing on this pin? I’ve heard good things about Titan, but definitely don’t want that extra bouncy rubber like what’s in Alice Cooper.

#12160 3 years ago
Quoted from harryhoudini:

Titan color matched kit is amazing. I modified it a bit but it works perfectly for this game. They don't play that bouncy on this game for some reason. On my R&M they were way too bouncy.

Nice, would you happen to have a link to that color matched Titan kit and any pics? I worked on my WOZ all day and fixed the crystal ball (new OLED display), a mechanical clearance issue with the left pop bumper and a blown F710 fuse. Game is 100% fixed again, I played for about an hour. Forgot what an amazing pin this is, it’s never leaving. Now just need to replace all of the lifeless original rubber and give it a good detail and polish.

Same here...installed PinballMods crystal ball upgrade and new OLED screen from JJP. Not cheap, but no more issues and crystal ball is adjusted where I can see it from my playing position. I’m 6’2 so the factory crystal ball position wasn’t ideal for me.

Just clamp those nuts with vice grips on the back and use the correct nut driver on the front to break them loose. Replace the damaged nuts, if necessary. Be careful not to scratch or break the plastic

#13432 2 years ago

Worst case, bust out the Dremel with carbon fiber cutoff wheel. Will slice through those nuts like butter. Be ultra careful as a Dremel can easily take your finger off

Hey guys - has anyone installed a noise suppressor for the static noise you can sometimes here? I’ve done this on my other jjp games. Where do you connect it though? It prob needs to connect inside the big grey box inside the machine not the head like the other jjp games. Is that right?

There’s also the static and popping/crackling issue associated with the headphone jack on JJPs. Might be worth trying disconnecting the one cable from the motherboard in the backbox as described here:

https://pinwoofer.com/blog/jersey-jack-pinball-how-to-fix-popping-audio/

Might not apply to WOZ with the PC in the lower cabinet, but certainly applies to other JJPs. Do share if the Amazon filter helps on WOZ

Updated my WOZ RR from 6.61 to 7.04 today and got it up and running with WiFi and Scorbit. Played a bunch of games and it worked perfectly. Then, suddenly, the castle doors stopped registering hits and the VUK behind the doors no longer kicks the ball out. In test modes, the switches don’t register hits and that castle VUK won’t fire.

The door motors test fine and all other game switches and coils seem fine. Did I blow a fuse or what to check first? Which fuse should I check? Aside from this issue, I forgot how absolutely punishing this game is. It’s just brutal and the scores are so low. Talk about frustrating, wow. Makes Hobbit next to it feel like a walk in the park!

F703 first then F710, and F711, on the I/O board.
Those are the 20 volts for your doors and VUK. Try and get them working first. Then in Tests - Switches - Matrixed see what bashing the doors does. If all the other switches work that won't be a fuse.
My suspicion is F703, 20mm 6.3 amp time delayed. That would kill power to F710, F711, and F712 ( your knocker )
The fuses are on pages D-169, D-170, and D171 in the manual. If you don't have it, you can download it from jjp under Support - Downloads - WOZ.
LTG : )

Thanks so much Lloyd! I’m optimistic that it’s just a blown fuse and will test and replace the aforementioned fuses you mentioned, as appropriate. Will report back findings tomorrow, had enough of messing with it tonight.

LTG : )

Fuse F710 was blown. I replaced it with a new one and played a dozen games bashing the crap out of the castle doors and everything works perfectly again.

Not sure what caused it to blow, but glad that's all it was. On my last game, I was able to muster just over 1M and #5 high score. This game is super tough and does get repetitive, but it's still a gorgeous pin and timeless theme. I find the flippers get weaker after the game warms up and the munchkin ramps starts to become difficult to make. I did turn up the power on all of the flipper coils some, but it's still an annoyance. Anyone know how to keep the flippers snappy, do I need the PinMonk fans on this game? Hobbit doesn't experience this issue, but it's noticeable on WOZ. Game is a 2015 RR, built on 8/17/2015.

Quoted from pinheadpierre:

I decided I really wanted to experience “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” without taking the glass off. This was inspired by getting within one shot of my final jewel (mega jackpot on rescue multiball) and making the wrong shot out of ignorance. I did some research until I was convinced I understood the correct final shot and then tried again, only with easier settings overall.
I set the game for five balls and set everything else super easy. I made it to somewhere over the rainbow with six balls to spare! I think I actually might have made it without the extra two balls to start and super generous extra balls, but since I wasn’t counting I’ll never know.
Suffice it to say that although it’s neat to finally see it, melting the witch is actually a better show overall. Also, I wish that the game would just end after somewhere over the rainbow. It feels anti climactic to basically start over at square one afterwards.
Now that I’ve scratched that itch, I might leave the club, though parting with a direct print original run with Gouveia’s monkey and witch v2 mods plus 2.0 lighting, custom stadium lights, lit balloon, lit drip target, mirrored target stickers, full cliffy’s, ruby slipper flipper toppers and Lior’s

Thanks to jkashani I now have a Gouveia Monkey!!

That's an awesome mod. I wish he's make more of these for those of us who missed out. So much nicer than the stock monkey.

Quoted from DiabloRush:The original OEM strips are pretty fragile. Mine also went dim like this after I removed it. I could wiggle it and it would occasionally brighten, but I couldn't get it to stay that way. I ended up ordering a new one from JJP. Just FYI.

My wizard throne room LED strip also flaked out a few years ago and I had to order a replacement from JJP. Looks so nice with the new one in there!
