Quoted from rai:

help, I'm having two issues that have just started occurring on my RR Woz.
1) I adjusted the coil strength down because it was having trouble ejecting into the shooter lane, and it started working fine that is until today when this is happening:
the ball will be ejected from the shooter lane and I will be playing the game and all of the sudden another ball will be put in the shooter lane and will be auto-launched into play, and when I drain one ball it will end the ball. So I am thinking something to do with the ball trough.
2) I was having a small issue with the ball lock mech where it would drop out two balls instead of one such as when you shoot a ball up and there was already one locked. This has evolved into a situation where the ball lock (U shaped metal fork) will just all of the sudden start popping up and down for no reason and sometimes will pop up when I press the left flipper button to the full position, not the staged position. And also one time got the ball in this lock when it was not supposed to be and it was just stuck without any notion that the ball was locked so it needed a full ball search to be freed.

Helping Phil today I observed this issue and wanted to see how to troubleshoot. First time working on a JJP...

That ball lock mech def has a mind of its own. Would go up or down for 30 seconds non stop sometimes. Other times it would be in the down position and whenever he hit left flipper it would go up and down...What was weird is that it did not happen on right flipper. On a B/W pin I would suspect a flaky opto or switch causing the issue. Ive never worked on a Woz but was thinking about the 3 bank opto where balls rest when locked? thinking a flaky opto or cold solder? Any help would be appreciated. Great pin by the way!

Quoted from Pinballomatic:

Two things: under the playfield is an opto control board (in this case the right side one) - the lock optos are the first three plugs (starting with Black in the front). Make sure they are all pushed in tight (they click into place). Put the game in matrix switches test and tap your fist between the slingshots on the playfield to create vibration with no balls in the lock. See if the vibration causes one opto to read off and on.
Two: look in from the right side at the lock coil (under the munchkin hut decoration) - I have often seen the solder detach from the coil tabs but stay through the hole (the wire does) so that vibration makes the wire connection intermittent and thus the lock arm repeatedly goes up and down.

Thx. The wire looked solid on lugs. I can reflow. But the under pf boards sounds like it

looks like Im close to getting one...Not going crazy with mods...It will have a shaker. 2-3 best mods? I like the better witch and castle walls if I can find them.

#4985 6 years ago
Quoted from dirtbag66:

The Red Smoke Witch mod is sold out, but if you can find someone who is willing to sell their's, get it. It's by far the best mod for the game.
Also get the Back Alley Creations tornado and castle walls mods.

Thx

#5075 6 years ago

How snug is the backglass on Woz?....I tried to lift the backglass and it really seemed almost impossible to slide up...Am I doing something wrong?

#5080 6 years ago
Quoted from apinballwiz:

Nope..just work with it a bit and it will cooperate.

Thx for both replies

#5096 6 years ago
Quoted from apinballwiz:

Might be a loose cable somewhere that carries signal to monitor

Did it again today. It’s not the monitor it’s the entire Game shuts off except the back glass light and coin door bulbs.

I’ll double check it’s not an issue with my 120v since I have a few things on the citvuit including my coke machine

Power cord into back of cabinet in tight ?
If your game has an ATX power supply, power cord into it tight ?
Parts in the metal box over on/off switch starting to burn/fail ?
Could you plug a light or something into the service outlet and see if it goes out the same time the game goes out ?
LTG : )

thx ltg and arcadenerd...ill check these

My WOZ is still dead.

Mine keeps crashing too. I need to get some tech help from JJP too

#5145 6 years ago

Woz lock ups. I will say first that Frank at JJP has been great. Spoken several times and we are starting to troubleshoot random lock ups and reboots. Sometimes game can be on 30 min and in attract mode other times right when I turn it on....sometimes it will try and reboot other times its just dead.

He sent me some bulletins and I am starting with my power supply since I have the smaller L9 component.

Just brainstorming some ideas what has caused other people to have random lock ups and what solved it???

Don't think its the monitor board as we had it off on one of my first tests when it locked up. I checked and it seems all connections are tight.

I have a 2015 build with 7.5v boards. He sees no previous repair tix so the game seems to have been playing well in the past.

Thx for any ideas...

Quoted from coz6:

Zero chance this is it but have to ask you on the latest code it fixed lockups but should only affect early versions but like I said had to ask (had same problem until last code addressed this)

Thx. I did new code last week.

#5151 6 years ago

what are sata cables?

LTG, I turned monitor off as soon as it booted. About 30 sec later it reset.

Thx for ideas!

#5154 6 years ago
Quoted from LTG:

Try it before turning the game on.
LTG : )

Yep. Had monitor off. Power on. Reset about 20 sec later. What’s weird is after turning monitor back on played a long game with long multiballs and it did not reset till about a minute after game ended

#5156 6 years ago
Quoted from moonduckie78:

^^^This!
That connector is very loose. I've had to re-apply hot glue to that connector once or twice.

mine looks very tight in the crystal ball...glue still very solid...where does it plug into the game...Ill unplug it and see if problem goes away

also my L9 is the older small one. The Woz service bulletin says they will swap with a newer larger L9 PS board...Even though mine looks fine could it still cause lock ups?

#5179 6 years ago
Quoted from Skyemont:

Got a new Mother Board. Turned the game on and this happens. What now???

Im surprised no one has helped. Ive had good tech support with JJP so far...

#5246 6 years ago

My game was resetting and rebooting. Great customer service....Im 95% sure its fixed. No resets in about 20 games or an hour in attract mode...I paid about 350 for a new ps board but they gave me credit back for half when I return my old ps board. Plus an improved small lcd board was $9. SO for less then $200 I was able to solve my isse and have 2 newer boards. No complaints here.

helping buddy update his woz game code. Hr is running 4.10...

is there a quick explanation? Looks like I need to install program to help read the code? is this done on my pc or on the thumb drive?
A quick help thread would be awesome. Been 3-4 years since I updated a a JJP pin.

#11503 3 years ago
Quoted from Pinballomatic:

Unetbootin or Rufus - dialog boxes step by step on our website under full install instructions. Download 7.02 full install. Use unetbootin to build the stick for you. Take time. Usb Sandisc cruzer glide 16gb blank stick. No bigger than 32 at any rate. Make sure stick is empty cause full install formats it first.
Answer yes to all. Remove stick and install in usb cable front left side with GAME POWER OFF.
Power on. Wait. It will rewrite the drive for you.

thx. i have a new cruzer sandisk 16. Ill try and report back. So I load unetbootin on my desktop or on the blank stick?

update. trying it now...seems to be extracting to thumb drive. so far so good.

Helping a friend with an early woz stuck ball problem. On slow rolls up left orbit the ball is getting stuck. It’s under mini pf and when I look up from Left side I can’t see ball. When I look from above right I see a rollover switch but the ball is further down out of sight. So it’s literally in a 2 inch area you can’t see from Either direction. Anyone else have this happen.

Is taking the mini pf off a pain? If it was removed I could see exactly where ball is stuck Thx!

#13260 2 years ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

Its an odd behavior.
A rubber ring gets rolled up out of its notch in the post and end up resting on the plastic.
You can reach it with fingers, push it back into its notch.
What happens is that with the rubber sitting high, a corner appears that the ball comes to rest on.
The rubber is the ring below the slingshot.
The edge is on the right side.
It took me years to figure it out lol, as its hidden from view.
I always thought it was the mylar edge, its not.
I only discovered it when i has the mini playfield out and just happened to notice it.

Don’t follow. I can’t reach it with upper pf on. It’s 4/5 inches either way and I can’t see it

#13264 2 years ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

Get to it from the sling area above.
Try removing the plastic. To get in there.
You don't have to remove the mini pf.
But now that i think about it, you have to remove the plastic.

which plastic? maybe post a stock photo of the plastic area? thx for any help
