I dont have a pic but there was a slo mo vid posted years ago that showed the ball airborne off the metal piece in the shooter lane.

It grazed and bounced off the screw head on the cliffy and randomized the launch too much.

Its the last screw on the cliffy strip on the far right that ends up over the shooter lane. The screwhead hangs down into the ball trajectory area

Some guys have removed the screw completely and ground off the tab on the cliffy to get more ball clearance.
You can then drill a hole in the metal strip and put a #6 x 3/8 screw in the side edge of the mini playfield instead.

This was noted earlier.

I dont know if cliff changed the design to remove the screw from that location. It would be good if he did.
Its been years since i installed mine.

I get a lot of air balls from my right flipper, I've tried lowering the power but it's either the air balls or the ball doesn't make it up the ramp/

Raise the rubber on the flipper bat so it is hitting higher on the ball.

In regards to the castle wall mods, do you guys have any opinions on which are better or nicer looking between Modfathers vs. Back Alley Creations? I feel like back alleys look a bit better but I dont believe they do the witchs walls if wanting to match that later on..

Thoughts?

Thoughts?

Get the Back Alley ones.
Get the whole set of Back Alley mods, it really looks better with them.

Get on the non-existant list for the red smoke witch mod.
Steve will make some more, be patient.

Back alley.... If it's good enough for the RR...

#8158 4 years ago

Thanks guys. So I assume you guys with the Back Alley ones dont care about the witch well? I havent seen it in person so just curious.

Being brutally honest, the modfather pieces are a little... cheapy. What I believe is that they are just carved pieces of foam spray coated with some texture type paint. I could not get two sets of them to fit on my SE, I don't know why and he doesn't know why either. That being said, I believe there are only a few options out there. There is a "cage" for the witch "which" I believe looks horrible. There used to be some witch replacement options but no one is making them that I know of. There may be one other witch wells out there but I forget if they are unique from modfather or just resellers. The thing you really want is the Gouvea one, the problem is he stopped making them and said it will be some time before he makes more. I personally just had my witch tube removed for some time, it looks just plain horrible.

I also have the modfather walls.
They look ok in the game.

But they resemble stale marshmallows as far as the material.

They kinda wore out and got sloppy after awhile so I bought Matt's. They are superb.

I don't care for the dunking witch in a well.

I also don't care for the casino/bank teller cage witch...

I really like the lantern mod instead of the black spot light on the castle playfield. It looks cool.

#8162 4 years ago

So you may have just answered my question. Just finished replacing all the rubbers and install all the protectors. As I mentioned earlier my witch would get stuck. With everything apart I took the opportunity to work on the witch. The witch is sticking on the cage, can't see exactly where but it works perfectly without it. So I left it off and now looking for something to replace the back. I already have back alley's wall on the RR so if nothings out there I guess I have to wait for a red smoke mod.

I very happily joined the WOZ RR club today. The machine is a work of art and, IMHO, combines the best of old school pinball (skilled shots to targets) and state-of-the art toys. Very special thanks to the Pinsider I got it from.

PS. The thing almost did not fit in my Acadia rental! Yikes!

Finally joined as well! ECLE with 2.0 light boards. I need to move it by my POTC LE and DI LE. Only issue I’m having is my topper isn’t lighting and I need to add some mods. Too bad the best ones aren’t available...

All so pretty!

Ok, who's ready for some red balls?

pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png

j/k... just testing paint color/finish. I wonder how long they would last with an auto clear on them, I might just do one for fun.

Is your free play card lit, or is it white and the flash makes it look that way?

Just the flash. It’s all stock. Now I need to find mods. Sounds like Back Alley Mods walls are the way to go, but same dilemma with the witch. I really dislike the tube. I was originally going to pick up the Modfather ones with well.

Am I the only one who doesn't mind the tube? Yes smoking witch is cool but I'm fine with the tube if I can't get one.

Which part of the movie does the tube relate to?

It's a huge after thought, at least that is what it looks like.

Quoted from harryhoudini:

I just see it as the witch being displayed and it's a clear tube so she's protected. I get your point but for some reason I actually like it.

I used to have the smoking witch and I really wasn't impressed. The red just looked like bubbles to be.

I'm still looking for one for my new game but thats just bc well why not... Haha

That monkey though really makes a difference.

The part of the movie where the witch falls into the chocolate river and gets stuck in the tube, and the oompah loompas start singing.

Oh, wait, I may be confused.

The tube is just a protective case with some trees on it. It’s not the greatest looking thing, but again I don’t really mind it.

Nah, witch is fine. Monkey is the one mod to rule them all. Figured out my topper issue. Guess the wiring harness got hung up somewhere when the head was folded down and it pulled the soldering from the LED strip. Unfortunately, the two wires touched and blew a fuse. Killed my spotlights, witch lights, start button lights, and now the door that holds the ball after Dorothy is captured opens with the right flipper... damn it. Luckily, Lowe’s locally looks to have the fuse in stock so I know where I’ll be first thing in the morning...

But you see the witch tube 100% of the time. The monkey a few seconds here and there.

Yep! It does have 5v boards so he priced it low. That was his justification. So, after missing out on a $7200 rr barely played and a nice standard with shaker/invisiglass for $6400, I’m thrilled with getting the ecle.

Very true, but damn it’s cool! Tube is definitely not what I prefer, but options are limited. I’ve actually been waiting to see what you add to your site has to be in the works as much as you’ve been doing. Awesome stuff for sure!

One thing my wife pointed out was the 2nd “E” on rescue is only displaying the color green. It does turn off and on, but only green. I thought I saw it change color once. The rest of the leds change colors. Is this an easy fix?

I haven’t even lifted the playfield yet as my wife has been playing nonstop since it came home. I thought I’d ask here first before I start messing with it.

Put the game in ALL LED test and then walk through the colors one at a time Red Green Blue. See if one of the color LEDs has failed on that E

If the LED has in fact failed, you will need to get a replacement board to fix it. Replacing the board requires removing the castle playfield which seems intimidating at first but is not too bad. There are step by step instructions in the manual.

You may want to consider a 2.0 lighting upgrade kit which you can get from JJP for $800. If you have the old lighting, the upgrade provides much more reliable boards. It is a much bigger job, about 12-14 hours, but it gives you piece of mind, especially if your older boards are starting to fail.

Thanks. I was hoping to avoid changing to the 2.0 at least for a little while. Looks like it’s out of stock and sold out on JJP site currently anyway. I only see 7.5v boards on their site. If I just replace the one board, does it have to be a 5v board?

#8190 4 years ago

No you can use a few 7.5 small boards with a 5v game if need be. And the 2.0 kit is available it just has about a 3 week lead time right now.

So, need to see if anyone can help with a new issue. Upper right skill shot flipper causes issues when the EOS Switch is touched by the flipper assembly. It causes the far right castle door (for Dorothy capture) to open when the flipper is used. If I push the EOS switch so it doesn’t touch the flipper bracket that is supposed to close the switch, it doesn’t happen. Any idea what could cause this?

Put the game in switch tests and close the eos switch (just manually extend the flipper all the way out) and see if other switches are being triggered at the same time.

I tried this yesterday and it doesn't seem to activate any other switch. What's weird is if the piece of the flipper assembly that activates the switch (sorry: terminology) touches any part of the EOS switch, it happens. The EOS switch doesn't have to close, just has to touch the assembly for it to happen.

Is the insulator on the actuator arm missing? It sounds like something is shorted to the flipper mech and that is causing some kind of short when it touches the blade of the EOS.
