Quoted from ozno:

Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.
Only the most unintelligent and brainwashed say things like that. The very people that benefit are out there screaming about Obamacare. Guess what idiots? In a few years time, everyone will agree that Obamacate is a good thing and the fascists will be spreading some other lies. You are just doing the work of the insurance companies that don't want Obamacare. I love how the right wing uses bitter white trailer trash to do their bidding, while they kick the very same people in the nuts. In the 90s, every idiot fascist was screaming about Global warming being a hoax. Now all those dirtbags are silent and have made no apology.

YIKES!!! Someone's been watching WAY too much MSNBC. But back to pinball...

I'll put a topper and castle on next year's Christmas list (don't like how the tornado blocks the Emerald City, and Toto looks like a squirrel). I'm still focused on The Hobbit, which I expect will improve on the awesome features (and lack of GI) that WOZ has.

human caused global warming is a huge hoax. Obviously you're a pinhead that skipped classes at school to play pinball and believe any of the tripe your socialist friends shove down your throat.

Quoted from CraZ4Pin:

BS!! I have never looked to "flip" a game. Never. But I DID think the whole point of getting in early on WOZ was to SUPPORT Jack and JJP and because I would be holding 1 of only 1000 "limited" edition versions of WOZ. I thought that was the trade-off. Now there is more than 1 "limited" edition (and a more featured one at that). That's just BS. You clearly haven't had money tied up for 2+ years, listening to everyone's chat that you're a moron and the game will never be made and it will be crap if it is, etc. etc. We weren't speculating 2 years ago on a JJP game to make money like folks speculate on an established STERN LE yet to be "officially" announced. Yet, we're crapped on anyway.

Yeah, but the new "limited" edition is UUUUUUUUGLY!!!

Still the finest pin made. Shame they pissed so many people off.

Quoted from Guinnesstime:

I don't have any stakes in WOZ (played it many times, didn't really enjoy it - and yes I've played it with the new code blah blah) BUT here is the main point....
JJP has a chance to get this new version in a Warner Bros catalog. The catalog is delivered to WB fans with deep pockets. This probably crept up on them. I'd bet this wasn't in the radar 3 years ago at all. Still WB will get a cut so what do you do? Change the paint, change a topper and stick in a few things originally left on the cutting room floor, apply an up charge and boom there you are. A $9000 game and a good chance to sell them all.
Unfortunately the journey to get here is the problem. No indication another LE would be made, pinheads funding the start up and waiting years for their games, price points all over the freakin map, delays and delays and the 'never ship without complete code' claim.
Still no one is forced to buy their games, but the preorder process has already secured a lot of future purchase, so potential profits are pretty safe.
What a mess though.

You make a good point. Jack wrote on the JJP board that people need to consider "relicensing fees." While I'm not sure that's entirely honest, he did make the first two machines for the Warner Brothers party celebrating the WOZ anniversary. My guess is in order to get into the catalog, WB is, in fact, getting a cut of the newer machine. Hence, the padded price. Good theory!

What?!?!
*snicker*
Oh Jack...

In all fairness to Jack, here's the exact quote:

"Tell that to the people who renewed our license for this.

There is much more than meets the eye here and nobody can understand it fully, not even me sometimes.

If another manufacturer adds an LCD and what it needs to run technically any the assets that make it viable, how much more does that add to the cost of what they sell now? What would the price of that game be? A lot more than $9000"

#576 10 years ago
Quoted from Pdxmonkey:

I hope he does a reasonable exchange if you have an EC (opened or not with different prices of course) and want to upgrade to a 75th one.
If I was waiting in for my WOZ EC that is what I would want.

You would really want to change from green to that ugly red? Just change out the toys and topper on the ECLE, and you still have the best machine--along with the invisiglass and wood apron.

#684 10 years ago
Quoted from gprotein:

Ebay link
Free shipping! So this new LE is now selling below $9K.

They lowered their price - they must have just realized how ugly it is.

Meanwhile, the ECLEs are still going for over 10k.

#687 10 years ago

Jack has said that the market dictated the price and new red version. And who can argue that? The original LEs sold out way before the first one was ever made. When they were actually being produced, distributors who had hoarded them, like Automated, began pumping the prices as they were still being sought after. I'm sure Jack saw this, as well as the clamor for making the WOZ75 available, and decided he would charge a price that would make it difficult for anybody to flip for a higher price. Why should somebody else make money off of his idea and his work? I think the people who are most pissed off are the people who have had every intention of flipping their machine. Jack has simply decided to do what concert and theater promoters have been doing - pumping up the price so high that the scalpers can't make a profit off of their work.

Full disclosure: I bought a ECLE from Automated for 9k. Am I disappointed? Sure, but I'll still be first in line for a castle and a topper. Am I going to cancel my Hobbit preorder? Hell no - with a dragon and underground tunnels, not to mention the LCD, RGB LEDs and (hopefully) improved GI, I'm still totally psyched. But then again, I buy the machines to play, not to sell.

(And it is VERY difficult to talk pinball machines without making a cargument...there are many similarities!)

Quoted from badbilly27:

So the collector of an original Picaso painting is just in it for the money. Please brother.

Absolutely. Because they know they can enjoy it for a few years and most likely sell it for more. I don't think anybody would buy a pricey painting if they thought they'd lose money on it.

Quoted from ccotenj:

again, what "clamor"? i saw nothing on pinside (maybe i missed it?) where people were begging for another le?
some jjp apologists are really stretching credulity with the pricing excuses... the "pump up the prices so the scalpers don't profit" dog don't hunt... that presumes that EVERYONE who buys a machine is buying from a flipper... if that is indeed true, jack has an issue with his distributors (including himself, since you could buy directly from him) backdooring inventory... believe me, i'm no fan of flippers, but laying the price increase at their feet is disingenuous at best...

There were people on Pinside saying how cool it was and asking if they could get one. Also, there were apparently people at the Expo questioning him about it and wondering if it would be available. And I'm not defending him or making excuses at all. Just trying to figure out how he's thinking - seemed like a good theory at the time.

Quoted from McCune:

Laughable ! That game will be nothing in 6 months . People will move on and forget about WOZ !

Yes...because they'll be getting their Hobbits.

Quoted from pmWolf:

I think Jack looked around and thought: "Holy crap, I sold all of these WoZs for $6500, and now everybody else is getting $8500 for them! Why can't I do that! Oh...wait...I make the machines..why can't I just make more, and sell for $9k! Now I'm in on the action!"

Which was exactly my point.

#711 10 years ago
Quoted from CraZ4Pin:

I can!!!! Jack is on video from dozens of pinball shows over the past 2-3 years proclaiming "There will only be 1000 Limited Edition Games made and they're selling fast" (or many, many variations to that effect). By selling this new LE, that is false advertising. Plain and simple, he LIED. I sincerely believe he could be sued. I bought on that promise and I'm confident others did too. We put up with people questioning us for 2+ years like we were idiots for trusting our money with Jack ... we were taunted the game would never happen ... but we believed. We supported Jack. We believed we would have something very limited and very special. And now he just hits us with this. I find it absolutely disgusting. I find it to be nothing but GREED with complete disregard for those that helped get his company off the ground. It's wrong. Period.

Good point - but people change their minds all the time. If there's another buck to be made, only a moron wouldn't capitalize. BUT...you probably should feel out your customer base first to make sure you're not perceived to be screwing somebody over. That's where the mistake was made, I think.

Quoted from badbilly27:

A quarter has two sides to it - heads and tails. You're choosing to see one side only to support your argument. Collectors don't always collect to profit. Pen & Teller's, Teller collects Houdini artifacts. All for profit? Try and remove the emotion of your position and understand there are two sides to this situation.

No emotion in my position, and I understand yours and Teller's (big fan here, btw...). As a collector of first edition books, I've bought authors who I love that cost me big bucks to get - only to have the books depreciate. It doesn't matter to me, though, because I love the author and because they (usually) signed it. If you love something, it shouldn't matter about the money. And I love my ECLE!

#715 10 years ago
Quoted from McCune:

I doubt that in 6 months anyone will have a Hobbit. I bet the last 500 WOZLE will might be delivered by then . I hope

I was just being a wise ass - but you get my point.

#776 10 years ago
Quoted from wolftownjeff:

Tell me of one ECWOZLE that has sold for 10,000$????
They are for sale for much less than that right here on pinside.

Here you go...and god knows how many others Automated has sold at those prices privately:

doesn't say it was sold.

Yes it does. Look at the banner across the picture - I wouldn't have used it as evidence if it wasn't sold.

Quoted from teekee:

Lol, believe me Ebay can be manipulated in anyway you want. Things like this are set up all the time to pump prices, etc. Its very possible some fool may have purchased one for $10k on Ebay. There are a few overpaying fools on Ebay. It may have happened it may not have happened. Doesn't matter. They are far from the $10k mark.

....and they would pay Ebay the 10% seller's fee on $10,000 to manipulate the market WHY???

#804 10 years ago
Quoted from blondetall:

You just cancel the auction after it closes. The buyer is off the hook, the seller doesnt have to pay fees, and the completed listing looks exactly the same so nobody is the wiser.

Sorry...it's hard for me to think like a douchebag, so that didn't even occur to me. I stand corrected...

Quoted from teekee:

Don't ruin his day… let him think that his $8000 WoZ LE is really worth $10k cuz Ebay says so!

...but obviously not so hard for him to think that way. I don't think my LE is worth 10k - in fact, I KNOW I paid more for it than what it was worth. But it was the only option at the time, and after having owned it for two months and knowing what I know now, it's worth more to me than what I paid for it. Go flame somebody else.

#807 10 years ago
Quoted from teekee:

Exactly and I feel bad for you. I know someone that missed out on an LE and went ahead and bought a Standard because he also thought it was the only option. That's why what JJP did here is so wrong. It sucks for many that made bad buying decisions because there were no other options, or so we thought… thanks Jack.

Don't feel bad for me. My game is still better than all of yours.

EDIT: ...which is why you're selling so many of your games. Saving up for a WOZ???
