I've never been to the Indy 500 but I wouldn't go today if you gave me a ticket!
I can remember going to races when it's been this hot and started the day with Bloody Mary's and tailgating all the way up to the race, but that was 20 years ago! Really enjoying watching the race while sitting in the air conditioned air. I'd like to see the race at some point just to say I've been there because of the history. I've seen Indy races at Chicagoland Speedway which is a better venue to see a race since you can see the entire track about everywhere.
The Indy 500 doesn't have the same draw it used to. The Indy/CART split really hurt open-wheel racing, but the interest in racing in general seems to have really dropped off.
It's funny how the older I get, the more I enjoy watching sports on TV! Baseball is the only sport that I still prefer to watch in person.
