I just picked up a Star Gazer and not sure what to do with it yet. I also sent you a PM.

You should sell it to me!

greatwichjohn there seems to be some concerns over the playfield colors. I think that we all realize that the the playfield colors may have varied during the production run, and some playfields may have experienced more fading due to up exposure.

Since we can’t see the test playfield in person, can you take a couple of pictures of the nos playfield next to the test playfield, nos on the left and test repro playfield on the right? I suggest taking one picture from one foot away, and one five feet away.

Thanks,
John

Quoted from j_m_:

on a related note, it would be killer if we could get steve young to heat stamp the pop bumper caps with the radiating lines on the edge of the caps

I asked him about that a few months ago. He said that it would require a special dye/tool setup fee of $400. I offered to pay the $400 and buy a large number of these caps. He basically said that he too many other projects already and wasn't interested in accepting my order. Of course, I still don't own a Star Gazer. Someone posted that they made decals with the ridge lines to place on the repro bumper caps.

Quoted from Fytr:

I've got two good originals and missing the 3rd. The repro cap isn't the same shade/thickness so it looks very different when lit. I'm probably going to have to replace them all with new ones with stickers.
Seems like it might be not that hard to manually create the ridge lines with a hot nail or something, then paint in the lines? Anyone tried that?

The hot stamp lines (ridge lines) are raised, not indentations. Same as the pop bumper caps for Seawitch

Who's the ghost in the left pop?!

I thought that Stern Pinball had trademarked ghosted playfields

Quoted from MtnFrost:

I'm confused - if wanted to buy a Seawitch playfield, how do I go about it?

MtnFrost you pm greatwichjohn with your name and email address, and John will add you to the preorder list. He won’t accept a deposit. When your playfield is ready he will email you with instructions on where to send the PayPal payment.

I'm waiting on a call from the cnc shop owner for Seawitch status. On a personal note my orthopedic surgeon for my right foot says I have bone growth above my heal. I will pay for physio the next 4-6 months. If things aren't better 1+ year for free surgery, & 9 months of recovery. Might turn out that my right hip is ok, which I will find out in 1.5 years wait. Free medical doctors & specialists are good, but the wait time sucks! I have blue cross for physio up to $1k a year, which is about 11 treatments.
Only the last 4 Star Gazer playfields left that i'm working on. 1 is presold. The latest is CPR is still moving ahead with the same playfields (Star Gazer & Seawitch) in 2019 or later, or never. The playfield wars with the big guys is in full swing, & they are trying to kick me in the nuts (CPR)! Mirco & CPR are going at in 2017, & now this year. Adams Family was the start, CPR had my Spectrum playfield years ago (mirco now wants to do it also), & had 1 of my Sorcerer playfields which CPR might do the end of this year, or later.

greatwichjohn Have you heard of this playfield manufacturer out of Germany; http://www.buthamburg.de/ ? Do you know if they do good work? Are they franchised for Bally/Willimas by Rick at Planetary Pinball? A smaller manufacturer like this might be a good option for games that are unlikely to be run for a few years if ever; Meteor (on CPR boutique list forever), Nine Ball (CPR says they will make it someday), Quicksilver, Etc.

I'm still in for a Seawitch playfield.

Quoted from cottonm4:

I thought CPR was just going to be going through titles they have done in the past, unless they were furnished the art for something new.

Cpr announced earlier this year in a newsletter that they would be making playfields and backglasses for Seawitch, Star Gazer and Nine Ball for the first time. No eta was given for any of this, but they just added Seawitch and Nine Ball backglasses to their inventory

#1319 5 years ago
Quoted from greatwichjohn:

With CPR now doing glass titles that I have done for years. I will be leaving the parts business in 2019. My focus is now on finishing Seawitch & Star Gazer playfields. I will not be able to price match CPR glass & shipping. Thanks for the support over the years!

John I really appreciate all of the support that you have given the fans of Classic Sterns over the years.

Quoted from Whridlsoncestood:

Do you have a site at all John? Place to see what glass you have available. Have someone looking for meteor.

John, I know that you haven’t offered Meteor backglasses in the past. If someone can get you a high quality scan, could you make this title with the mirroring?

There is a guy over in Europe who made Meteor backglasses recently, but I’m not sure how expensive they are with shipping to the US.

I don’t believe anyone in the US has ever made this backglass as a repro. CPR or Shay could make it. I know several people that have tried to email/call Shay and he never returns messages about new products. There are a lot of people looking for this backglass so someone should step up and make it.

Same for me

Quoted from Evets:

"What's non prepaid but paid? I haven't paid anything yet. I still want one though!"
That's me misreading/misinterpreting an earlier post in this thread. Sorry.
-Steve

I think they meant to say not prepaid but preordered. When I went to order a playfield John has stopped taking prepayment, but put my name on a list of people preordered. Once the prepaid playfields have shipped John will contact the preorder people (like me) and offer us an opportunity to buy one.

You (new guy) will have to get in the bank of the line.

I would like a Dragonfist play field and it is never going to happen.

Never say never. If enough people lobby Mirco he may make them, and yes I’d order one.

Quoted from rcbrown316:

i just checked the last few posts. John respectfully told me not to prepay a few years ago. Will there be enough leftover s oI can buy one? is there a line of non prepayed people waiting or how does this work?

There is a line if people that are not prepaid wanting a Seawitch playfield. John has a list and once he takes of the prepaid guys I’m sure he’ll dig that list out.

#2059 3 years ago
Quoted from Lovef2k:

Afaik John is going by order of interest not prepay. When i asked to be added to the list John didn't want me to prepay.

I think you’re missing evets point. People who are prepaid are trying to find out how many people haven’t received playfields yet, so they can gauge how long they have to wait.

John is going by the order of prepaid playfields offering them really nice copies(firsts). Any copies with small defects (seconds) are offered up to anyone who wants them at a discount. After John takes care of all the prepaid guys, he’ll start offering the firsts to the preorder list people. As he has any seconds along the way they’ll be offered to whoever wants them.

Quoted from miracleman:

You're not going to take pre-paids, right?
You're only selling playfields ypu have finshed/clearcoated in hand, correct?

John has said multiple times that he will no longer accept any pre-payments.

Quoted from greatwichjohn:

Like I have said they continue on with production of both playfields. I was working on both & there were ample playfields with lenses epoxied in. Same group that looked into correcting the blue, & use to vectorising the art. People should see playfields available this Fall 2021. Thanks to all my previous customers over all the years! Ron K received a couple of inked only Star Gazer playfields before I closed down. If you need one now I would reach out to him for the best cleared playfields in the world.

John I and others were waiting for Seawitch and Star Gazer playfields. I’m sure that all of the prepaid guys have been taken care of, but the rest of us have been waiting a long time. Will the new company give the people that have been waiting for playfields first pick?
