I’m sure it’s been asked but is there a way we can get them without clear? I need a new SW playfield but I would rather use my own clear on it
Yes the production ones I am working on now will be available for $100 US off for those that want to do the finish clear coats themselves. Power was restored to the workshop last night. Day #3 of recovery after the hurricane. 2 of the 3 indoor public pools I work at still had no power in the city.
Today I was at the printer picking up backglass, & the other 4 Seawitch cut playfields at the sign shop. So the first 22 Seawitch production with yellow arrows are in the shop. Next week the 20 old stock playfield blanks of 100 go to the sign shop for Seawitch. It is more likely they get cut this month, but it depends on the production demands of the shop. Also picked up more supplies for epoxy glueing of inserts. Sanding will continue to have playfields ready for the printer this month.
Picked up a cold from my wife. Still sanding the first 8 of 22 production Seawitch. I am having a problem with finding 3/4 inch trans blue lenses. So while I sort this out I will just use playfields already cut. Might ask the German guys if they have them ready. Northern Precision Plastics has gone silent, & Foremost Plastics is always hard to get stuff. Still slow on selling test playfields for Seawitch with white arrows. Standby pre paid guys for Seawitch production with yellow arrows.
I assume you're talking about Mirco for the inserts. I'm sure they can supply you, but I hope you find them elsewhere. The tooling is very visible in the translucent inserts.
I have yet to see them lit in a game, but from the playfield pics I've seen it's one of those things that my eyes are immediately drawn to. Not a dealbreaker, but I hope you can find inserts that look like the originals.
John
Received playfield E and very happy. It looks great to me. Couldnt be happier. Well worth the wait. Thanks again for all of your efforts.
Thanks. There are more tests ready, as I get the production yellow arrow ones done. The 2 Star Gazer with poor plywood veneer lines with lense weep holes & other minor problems. These received 2 coats of water based varethane gloss, & the new owners can leave as is or fix with more clear coats. These 2 are the worst for plywood lines & other minor issues. Priced at $400 US shipped deep discount, 1 is likely sold to a guy looking from last year. The 2 coats of varethane looks more like the way playfields were in the early electronic years, 1977 - 1984. More attention to the playfields to make sure no weep holes, & playfields going back to auto finish clear coats.

john, any chance that you can start uploading photos with a higher resolution than you're currently using? it would be really nice to be able to actually see the details. the last time that 640x480 was used was windows 98!!
most smartphones produce images with at least 4x the resolution of what you're currently uploading

My playfield is scheduled for delivery tomorrow for Seawitch, and I already have my Stargazer as well so I will take some nice pics of each.

It’s pinside. When you upload photos it defaults to medium resolution as most things people upload don’t need to be in crazy hi def and helps with los times and server space. Here’s a little test.
Default :

Seeing a Seawitch in a destination setting, out in the wild, those colors really pop.

Agree the lighting at Johns shop doesn’t show these off well. The clear I did helps them pop too

Lose the Lecromano play field and take another pic. It will look like some movie starting out in black and white and then fading to color.

I would agree with you, but click on any of john's images from the past 90 days. NONE of them zoom to a size greater than 640x480 pixels
even your default size image increase to the native 2048x1536 when zoomed. that's a 10x increase in detail

I'm blaming Canadian phones with 0 evidence.

Sorry. That was out in the shop when I was working on them. Lectronamo is installed. Seawitch is in a box waiting for me to finish meteor and catacomb first.

Tell us about the Catacomb.
I am old school & have been using a small digital camera. this is the third one in 10 years. They do not like landing on the lense & concrete. I do use low setting since the early days of Pinside. The workshop lighting is very poor! Back to my regular 6 day a week job, & a bunch of Seawitch & Star Gazer playfields going through sanding. I will be at the shop Friday afternoon & Saturday. Try to get pictures.
Guys are looking at Seawitch tests ready to go F - H, see post 1692
Pictures of the 2 Star Gazer. These 2 have bad plywood lines & weeping. If they do not sell I will fix the problems & they will be $475 US shipped.
Quoted from supermoot:I can't really see, are these just clearcoat problems?
Just for reference I’ve gotten a Stargazer and Seawitch from John that he considered his seconds or lower quality. I can place them right next to my CPR bronze playfields that I have for 3 different games and Johns look better. Feel free to swing by and check them out in Lafayette if you ever are in the area.

Nice. I should get one with the white arrows. Then I could burn any color of LED I have a mind to. Red this week. Then purple. Then a splash of green. Hmmm.
Spent some time with my wife today, no shop. Will go there Sunday afternoon after work. F-H, & the other 4 white arrow tests are available after I fix them up.

Which one is this?
Both Star Gazer tests are sold. Pictures of them ready to ship & playfields. 10 new production Seawitch most are almost finish sanding, & starting the other 12. Hopefully 4 Star Gazer, & 2 Seawitch to the printer the end of this week. Working on 6 more Seawitch to the printer next week.

Great news!
Quoted from PACMAN:I hope I get my Sea Witch playfield before my 100th birthday.
I would like a Dragonfist play field and it is never going to happen.
Quoted from cottonm4:I would like a Dragonfist play field and it is never going to happen.
Never say never. If enough people lobby Mirco he may make them, and yes I’d order one.
Quoted from PACMAN:I hope I get my Sea Witch playfield before my 100th birthday.
If you're negative six years old or younger, I'd say you have a chance!
I am back to work at my regular 6 day a week job. The last few days I have not been well, & stayed home today. Bad colds seem to be common the last month here. The first group of yellow production playfields are getting close to be ready for printing. The goal is still to have prepaid guys get their playfields this year! November & December 2019
As for others doing Seawitch or Star Gazer playfields have at it. This has happened previously with the big boys. I will continue to produce the only 2 classic Stern titles that I have art for. As everyone can see from my production over the years nothing is perfect. There will be very good playfields with yellow production arrows & ones with some minor problems. If you want a white arrow with varethane test playfields they are still here! Most prepaid guys are waiting for production ones with auto clear.
There will likely be a announcement early next year. This is in the works for other parties towards pinball playfield & backglass production. Either my next minor project, or still producing what I have for art with backglass & playfields. So far I have done over 100 new printed playfields, about 30 uv ink restorations, & 300+ backglass. I am a one person operation with the help of product contractors. Not a huge producer of pinball parts like Mirco & CPR.
Seawitch test H is sold. F & G available. See post #1692 for pictures. Another party is looking also.
Still alive. I took time off pinball playfields as I return to my regular 6 day a week day job (48 hours). 1-9 pm, Sunday - Friday. Over the last 3 weeks fighting colds & my employer. So stay tuned I am getting playfields ready for ink & still trying for a large amount out before xmas.
Quoted from greatwichjohn:I took time off pinball playfields as I return to my regular 6 day a week day job (48 hours)
Yeah, you don't want to rush these things.
Quoted from plankalkul:Yeah, you don't want to rush these things.
You seem to be the only one pissing and moaning for the only possibility for getting a Seawitch play field.
Greatwich has been forthright and up front about how this play field has been a challenge and offered refunds for anybody who wanted one.
Why don’t you chill and enjoy the ride?
This is my second bad cold in 2 weeks. I will try & get a flu shot next week. Seems like a very bad Fall for colds.
Got my flu shot today. I am getting back into my regular 6 day a week job. Seawitch test A came back the guy wants to wait for auto clear coat & pay the difference. Test F & G ready to go. Test I - L still need minor sanding & finish varethane. All these tests are finish varethane. Those Star Gazer & Seawitch production playfields I am still working on lense repairs (weeping). Stay tuned as I hope to finally get a bunch ready for printing & auto clear coats.
any update? as much as I had hoped, this is not looking well for getting these out to the paid customers by year end
Quoted from j_m_:...as much as I had hoped, this is not looking well for getting these out to the paid customers by year end
I’ve been thinking the same thing.
from January 31st 2019
Quoted from greatwichjohn:Playfield news: 4 Seawitch were cnc'd today, & they started the 16 Star Gazer. Seawitch production is still my priority. The 4 Seawitch will get ready for lenses, & printing ASAP. If everything is good next 20 cnc. Then another 40 Seawitch cnc'd in March. Worked on 2 Star Gazer from 2018 today.
[quoted image]
given the wait for star gazer, I'm come to the conclusion of taking any date that john provides and adding a minimum of 2 years to it. not trying to neg him, but john has never hit any of his delivery estimates in the past 6-8 years
