Thanks guys for your patience while I move on towards down sizing. My house is sold May 30, & i'm busy trying to find a smaller space. Look for a update the end of next week. All the glass blanks are likely gone, & I will be doing a lot of Stern glass before June 28 when I go to Pintastic Show to speak, & 3 weeks in Austin, Texas to see my brother. Both Marco Specialties, & my France distributor will be getting Stern stock along with my customers waiting. I might have Big Game, & QuickSilver art coming this year. All my business stuff is being moved to a shared work shop since last Fall. I still do service work for a local operator in my area.
5 Stern glass went out this week, & i'm waiting payment on a Iron Maiden outer glass (6th glass blank). The last Star Gazer for now is going through the process again, & I hope to install a overlay on the donor playfield.

Seawitch glass showed up today and it looks awesome. Thanks John!

Still in for Seawitch. Still my favorite early Stern, although Big Game is a close second for me.

So I sold my house finally Wednesday night. It was a serious financial drain having a huge 4 bedroom house for the wife & myself. It was my mothers house for 38 years until her death in July 2010. Her mom spent almost a year in intensive care before her death, & she wanted to die in her house which she did (2 or 3 cancers). My wife & I moved back the last 2 years to care for her. We waited almost 8 months for free hospice care, which was to start the next day after her death. I work for the City & had to work that day due to my schedule (Friday). That was tough, & I still get annoyed thinking of it. So having moved everything to the workshop I share with a local operator. Things have slowed down while I search for a apartment, & were staying in Motels. We can barely move through the workshop.

So back to Seawitch playfields which need to get going through production. I will be finally talking with the owner that does the cnc work this month to get things as good as they can be for alignment. If everything looks good they will get the ok to run about 14 playfields after another test while i'm on vacation June 28 - July 24. Then the rest of the prepay & bulk new orders will be done later this year. Along with more Star Gazer playfields. Any 3rd playfield on will be a classic Stern only if art is ready to go. I will not be doing any more prepays ever, & haven't done anymore the last 2+ years. It's very hard to produce pinball parts, & playfields are the hardest! I'm still looking for the next clear coat specialist that I can afford.

For those that have waited enough for a Seawitch prepaid playfield, & want a refund here is the time. A few are being refunded this week, & a few others done the last year. Let me know & I will refund your payment through Paypal. Others still on board should see the end of the wait this year.

This month before Pintastic Show speaking & my vacation seeing my brother in Austin, Texas (3 weeks). I have to re supply all my vendors, ebay, & personal glass orders on Classic Stern Glass. That is if I can get the tempered glass in time, if not it gets delayed until I return from vacation.

Thanks for the Seawitch prepaid owners patience going through the slow process of all the Star Gazer playfields being done 78. All those prepaid orders done along with many extras. So now on to Seawitch production, which likely will be 2 or 3 more times demand then the initial prepaid orders.

If you are a Seawitch prepaid playfield customer still waiting, & going to Pintastic please attend my seminar. I will give away items that are pinball production related by me away to those there. If more demand then I will flip a coin to those that want it. There won't be playfields for free give away!

I'm on board for the long haul. The only reason I bought my roached Witch is because it came with a prepaid playfield. Having seen the level of perfection you ultimately produce, I am confident that someday a thing of beauty will arrive in the mail from you. I look forward to it. Good luck in your housing search.

#1256 1 year ago

I'm not prepaid but I am a future buyer. I have two of your Stargazer play fields and would happily prepay if it would help the cause.

#1257 1 year ago

I will stay in on my prepaid Sea Witch.

#1258 1 year ago

Guys with all the prepaid pinball buyers in the past being mostly burned, & almost with Jack having his problems in the past (Stern also). The prepaid days of anything are over for pinball people. If I had to do this from start again I would of just had stock & sold only what was ready to ship.

that's what I do, however you're in a slightly different boat with a lot of costs associated with the product.

given the level of quality that you deliver, I don't feel too bad about sending the money ahead of time. my only concern is your health (something that we all need to monitor as we get older

if an extra becomes available, I would buy it once it is ready.

#1261 1 year ago

For the few waiting a refund. Just waiting for Paypal to clear the funds from my bank.

#1262 1 year ago

I`m still in.

#1263 1 year ago

I will stay in as well. Hope to get my SW play field sooner than later!

#1264 1 year ago

John, to clarify: for those of us NOT prepaid but who indicated in this thread we wanted a SW playfield when they were ready, is this possible? How will it work?

If I was required to prepay, I win a big "DUH" award !!

Thanks

Ok, so in your post you are taking a vacation from June 28th thru July 24th...while prepaid people have been waiting for what, 5 years?
I wouldn't do that in the best years of my business.
Only in pinball.

#1266 1 year ago

I haven't had a vacation in 2 years, & have been working my 6 day a week job + OT for 21 years. So after 21 years of full time employment 6 days a week + plus pinball work. Maybe I can talk at Pintastic Show, & see my only brother in Austin, Texas for 3 weeks. There is more than just Star Gazer & Seawitch playfields being worked on. Yes I'm slow but product does get done. Glass is a lot less work. I have been off sick & long term disability for a year. I'm barely walking waiting for surgery, & if it happens I might be on crutches for 9 months. Health care is mostly free in Canada because we pay high taxes, & I do have Blue Cross Insurance also. My wait for a MRI is 1.5 years, & i'm seeing a foot & hip surgeons to see what needs to be done. At least I haven't gone blind over the years. Enjoy your health while you can, & I will turn 54 July 1. Like I have said people can ask for a refund, stay on board, or drop out & pay hundreds more for a playfield.

#1267 1 year ago

I am still in on Seawitch. John, enjoy your vacation and try to put pinball out of your mind for awhile.

#1268 1 year ago

I'm not prepaid but still in for a SW and I'd be in for a SG if John gets back to that. Thank you for what you are doing John. Have a good vacation!

#1270 1 year ago

I am still in for my stargazer. I have bought or made everything else so to not buy a playfield is a non option. If a clear coater is the problem, I will use kruzman.

Whatever.
5 years.

Chill out, man. John is a one man show. And since I have been around he has always been above board and honest. He is offering to give prepaids their money back. There are not too many places that will do that. Did you take his offer? Or perhaps you are not a prepaid.

It is just pinball. You look like you have plenty of pins in your stable to play. Relax.

wow dude, that's better than never!

I have found a new apartment. Will have a update next week. The few refunds should be going out this weekend, just waiting on Paypal to release the funds received from my bank.

plus, he gives updates. that's the one thing that most of these other "one man" operations lack

it's one thing to make promises. john has made and kept them. yes, he's definitely taken a lot longer than he promised, but he's kept everyone up to date on his progress and his successes and failures.

#1275 1 year ago

funds are available from my paypal account for the 2 waiting a refund. should be sunday. I have a tournament & some more household moving on Saturday.

#1276 1 year ago

Obviously I have little patience for promises made and not fulfilled. I am sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings. But there are other options, and to sit back and be put off for years, just isn't my way of moving on. I will drain this and not be back, hope you all the best.

#1277 1 year ago

Hang in there. I'll take a Stargazer playfield.

#1278 1 year ago

Thanks guys for the support. Just refunded 3 Seawitch prepaid playfields, & 2 Seawitch Backglass that went bad. Over the years refunded 2 previously + 3 now. Can't wait to finish this project up for Seawitch prepaid playfields before the 6 year mark!

#1279 1 year ago

Thanks for getting these playfields done, considering your health issues.
If that box of parts gets in your way while moving, you could send it my way

#1280 1 year ago

I admire John’s self motivated tenacity. Most people would have quit or folded a long time ago. My hats off to you.

#1281 1 year ago

hi john,
hope the move went without a hitch. any progress/update on the seawitch playfields?

#1282 1 year ago

Sorry guys for the late update. Still getting set up in new small apartment. Off to USA & return late July 25. I will be at Pintastic Friday - Sunday, & on to Austin, Texas. I finally got to the sign shop & talked about corrections for Seawitch. I authorised 2 Star Gazer to make sure they are still OK, & 10 Seawitch. When I return the bulk of Seawitch will get cut & get into production. A few more Star Gazer, along with extra Seawitch playfields. I want this finished this year before I move on to other pinball projects.

New tempered glass blanks for Stern glass arrived, & going to the printer. I will get a bunch printed while I`m away, & order more blanks for my return. Doing more custom glass orders also.

#1283 1 year ago

Custom glass orders? Elaborate please.

#1284 1 year ago

I have helped out for years for some custom pins. 1 or a few at a time, some are like marques. Done a few custom overlays also over the years. I`m no art guy, but I can get stuff made. 2019 will see more custom pins, plastics, & cabinet art. Going to focus on doing custom pinball similar to Bally & Stern pins 1978 - 1982.

#1285 1 year ago

I have met John and he was a very pleasant person to talk to. I have a deposit in for the Seawitch PF and will wait as well. I have also paid for and received a Star Gazer play field, Star Gazer reproduction back glass and Seawitch reproduction back glass. Excellent work.

Having said that, I completely understand the poster who is upset for waiting 5 years. I am not sure why people are jumping on him. I had a feeling this was going to take time. However, someone who has paid (yes I know they can be refunded) and has waited 5 years certainly has a right to complain.

Hallo John,

sorry if i have to say that. but it would be better if you took care of the pending promises you made instead of 1000 different things and such nonsens on doing custom pinballs.

I think especially of all those who have paid you money in advance for the Seawitch Playfield, consider that there is a lot of money together that you had interest-free for years available.

I hope you understand me correctly what I mean, you should first finish your Started projects. Those who have been waiting for a result for 5 years deserve the fact that you set clear priorities here.

#1287 1 year ago

Not to disagree with you as I too believe current projects should be completed before starting new ones, but in this case I see it as multitasking.

Health issues aside, many of the delays in bringing these playfields to fruition have been beyond his control. The CNC shop, the printer, the clearcoater all have their own schedules and John cannot dictate the priority of the playfield work.

Things like CNC alignment corrections, color corrections, registration corrections and clearcoating rework require multiple visits to the subcontractors vs. a dedicated playfield manufacturer that does this work in-house and could fix them in a day.

Instead of sitting around waiting while each step in the process is in someone else's hands he starts other projects to keep his production pipeline moving.

As far as collecting interest is concerned, the amount of interest money he's made is certainly less than the price increases by other playfield manufacturers over the last 5 years. I applaud John for sticking to his original price regardless of the competition's pricing and the actual cost in producing our playfields.

Yes i agree with you, but too many projects is allways not good and think about how the whole thing now on the nerves of individual already pulls.
It's great that John does so much and wants to do it, but that's also a big mess.
And I do not believe that all the suppliers for the past 5 years have always had no time.
I think John is a good guy and tried to make everyone happy as one man show. but that does not work, firstly you lose the overview and the health harms that too.

Therefore, I think there is still so much open is not good right back at the same time to start something new while others are still waiting.
especially when so many still support him

Still in for a Seawitch playfield - whenever I can order one!

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. Hard to say. I thought the shipping prices seemed excessive until I saw it is shipping from Argentina. He also has a Stern Cheetah showing in pic #2.

Strange thing about his sale is he has a starting bid of $500.00 but then tells you the reserve is $700.00. Why not just start the auction at $700.00 if you are going to reveal the reserve price?

I also notice the the registrations markings around the pops are off center in the same way I was harassing John about his prototype play fields having registration issues around the pops.

By the way looking at the picture it looks like 3 Meteor and 3 flight 2k plus 2 NOS seawitch fields. Its stacks on stacks... These come along every 10 years or so. I remember when someone found all of the William Double level playfields in stacks of 4 and 5 of each game. It was like Christmas!!! This is truly Classic Stern Christmas in July. Looks like a few shares of stock will now become wood and inserts

#1296 1 year ago

i have talked to the guy a lot, it's all real, his family have been running arcade for a while. the only difficulty is shipping up from south america. Around $300 per PF or $600 for 3x PF.

#1297 1 year ago

Time for someone to make a trip to Argentina!

#1298 1 year ago

This is why it's good to have a community Meteor would come in handy as well.

#1299 1 year ago

Dang, I want all of those playfields! I'd be worried about them actually making it through the mail. When I lived in Chile a couple of packages were lost in the mail coming from the US.

#1300 1 year ago

Back when John first showed us his Seawitch play fields I raised the issue of things being out of alignment. Maybe I spoke too soon.

Here is a pic of John's repro unit.

And here is a pic of the NOS unit for sale on Ebay.

I am inclined to think that John's is the better quality play field.
