Would it make sense to replace a lithium with alkalines?

Just got a TOTAN recently and was getting ready to install one of TaylorVA's battery holders. When I opened the backbox I discovered the original battery holder had been removed and was replaced with a lithium battery soldered directly to the circuit board.

My concern is even though the lithium will last longer, it will eventually leak and there is no way to easily change it before this happens. I was thinking about just removing the lithium and adding an original battery holder back in - then I can use the remote battery holder and change the batteries annually.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether restoring an original battery holder is a better option?
