Ok, so I am usually the one who thinks everything should be saved but this time I don't know. Cabinet is missing the back (I have 1/2 of it maybe) and the side is seperating. The backglass os trashed and the coin door has seen better days. My Solar City is missing the back plate so at least I can steal that. Prob a few other parts I could use for solar city too. Only plus is that it was free and the playfield is salvagable. I have the ability to do the work but I also have some other higher priority restos waiting. And I almost forgot, it only has 2 legs.

Cabinets I find easy to repair or rebuild. That backglass though...

    #5 5 years ago

It gets better. Clipped wires with nothing by them.

First off, is the playfield warped? That gap in the artwork could be serious. Other than that, it could be saved. With plenty of time and patience, anything is possible.

    #7 5 years ago

Well it just comes down the the PF bump/split/warp. I've seen games like that were it wasn;t a big deal and the rest of the PF looks good.
Yeah never dealt THAT much with cabs...you'd def be an expert after it though

    #8 5 years ago

if you want to spend a ton of time fixing it, and if you can find a backglass, sure. personally, that looks like way too many hours than i would like to spend.

    #9 5 years ago

Looks better than most of the projects that I start with...

It has a line down the whole thing but it doesn't appear to go through. Not sure how I can tell if its superficial. There is no bend at that line but the fact that it full length is concerning.

    #11 5 years ago

Yes, looks salvagable to me. Some glue for the cab, cut some plywood for the missing back, de-rust and polish the coin door, fix wiring/mechanical issues, hunt around for a backglass, wax the playfield, and shop it out.

If you don't feel like tackling it, pass it along to someone else who would be interested. It would be a real shame to part it out since it's not too far gone yet.

Probably just an issue with the top layer of the wood. It sometimes happens when games are poorly stored and when there's a pre-existing quality issue with the wood.

I wonder what the cut wires went to though. That could be an issue is something is missing there. It doesn't look like there was a relay there but not sure.

You would have to trace where the other ends go and find them on the schematic. A little annoying, but by no means impossible to figure out.

Well I glued the cabinet back together just to store it for now. Maybe I will try to save it after all. It's gonna have a comet, a firepower and a silverball mania in front of it though.

Looks to be the extra chute relay, sometimes you'll find a bundle of wires like that and they didnt install the extra chute, should be no biggie. The good new is that bgresto has done this glass so no issue getting that replaced. Lots of donor cabs to be had or just get a new cab back made, I had that done for a buddies 2001.

So its all doable... whether the gameplay warrants spending $1000 on rebuilding this tittle is another story.

I had a King of Diamonds that was in similar shape, head has trashed, needed a doner, needed a bg, cab was pretty rough but the pf was nice. There it was a no brainer to drop $1000 to rebuild the game

If you have the time, try to save it, if you don't find someone on pinside that will take the time. I hate seeing games tossed.

If no animal urine or severe rot they're always worth saving.

It comes down to time and money. I think you might find the head somewhere as I have seen a few on CL for sale. Not Scuba but others. Being in Alaska kind of makes you want to say yes as not many pins up there.

Except I live in Alaska. Anywhere in the lower 48 and this would be easy.

I certainly can't complain, but there are prob 4 pinsiders in ak? Just guessing. I have done very well acquiring games with the little funds I have. Just have take whats available and do the work to fix up whats left.

Just a little tongue in cheek. Ill certainly commend you for saving games that might not get a chance in the lower 48. If there is any GTB part I can help you with let me know. i once carved up my re-import FarOut so an Aussie could get a 240v transformer...

It is not eating anything. Look at it that way.

Make that 5 pinsliders in AK. I just found out how amazing these machines are and became obsessed. I just love the mechanics of the flippers and bumpers. I'm exited to start saving for one. I was thinking of building one, but then I saw this post, and now I am thinking restoring sounds like a better place to start. That Scuba looks looks like it will take some doing, but it almost seems like having such a transformation might be more satisfying than if you just had to fix one or two parts (a lot more time and work, agreed.) I think it will be worth it once you get to it though. Do you have any tips for a guy like me looking to get a fixer upper up in AK. So far I've just been looking on craigslist, alaska list and facebook. Not a whole lot of ones in need of repair there though. I guess it probably just takes patience and vigilance.

    P. S. Super new to this forum (heck I haven't really posted on any forums) so let me know if I need a new thread or whatnot. I'm not really sure what I'm doing.

I like my Scuba...that looks like a fun project, I had a water damaged cab that I replaced the bottom and rear, had the pieces cut at Home Depot, think it cost me $40 then just glued into place...
