Quoted from Striker:

How is it that every Gottlieb game from this era had “the license fall through?”

F1 Tomcat is just vanilla fan layout

Quoted from mrm_4:

Its a bummer so many people hate gold wings, when you max out that playfield multiplier and start multiball, and hit that aircraft carrier shot for like a 1,000,000,000,000,000 points then the game screams with the air raid siren for like 2 minutes long, its amazing!
Its literally Top Gun but the license fell through, come on everyone how can I be the only guy that loves this game? It has a freaking vertical loop, a space on the playfield dedicated to DANGER ZONE, the best 80s cheesy sound and art, and an air raid siren. And to top it off you have a fake Tom Cruise and Elizabeth Shue couple on the translight! What more does this game need to get respect????

This website has its Lips glued firmly to Williams pinball logo.

Williams can do no wrong and by pinside and Podcaster standards is that if a Williams machine sucks they just dismiss Gottlieb as even worse.

Toy Story 4... Too soon?

Way too late, actually. Post #7 about 15 hours ago...

Quoted from tilt-master:

Popeye should not be on this list. Owned it, liked it a lot and I’d buy it again if it was a good deal. Underrated rules set, great backglass art and freakin hilarious. Given all the other super pins made back in the day, Popeye was definitely the disappointment compared to the others

I played Popeye for more than an hour the first time I saw it. Not the best pinball, but it has some redeeming qualities. I never understood the flak it gets.

#56 1 year ago

Square pinballs are the worst.
Don't roll very well.

#57 1 year ago
Quoted from IgorZhu:

Well, Steve Kordek's Big Ben is lackluster, too. As many Pinsiders said.

I forgot I own that game until I saw your post. It’s at my friends house. I’ve actually never played it before. I replaced the flippers tho.

#58 1 year ago

L'Hexagone indeed looks terrible, especially playfield, sounds and music:

#59 1 year ago
Quoted from SantaEatsCheese:

Orbiter 1. I don't have it ranked last because it was unique with some neat features, but this game has the least replayability out of anything I've ever played and cannot imagine having one in a home collection. Spinning bumpers? Neat. A non flat wavey playfield you can see through? Balls that can drain from above or below the flippers? Just too different from regular pinball. If you have no idea what I'm talking about. It is a blast to play at a show... for about 10 minutes and then you will never want to see one again.
https://pinside.com/pinball/machine/orbitor-1

I actually like orbitor, it's like Jedi pinball there's one at the PPM, I play a few games on it when I go to fix it night (about once a month) so I'd disagree about replayability. It's fun for what it is. I also like spy hunter, play it whenever I can, never seen one not sell quickly when they come up.
For me, Jubilee, buggs, Popeye, GNR, dolphin and raven are some of my least favorite pins.
But sometimes someone who loves a shitty title will convince you it's fun, so you never know

Well 10 years later they did get the deal with Barb Wire...
And technically Brooks and Dunn but the company died half way through that build

#62 1 year ago

Im gonna stick with the game I always list in these kind of threads, Gottlieb Nightmare on Elm St. The most disappointing, lame playing, waste of a great license game.

#63 1 year ago

I want to stick up for Street Fighter II. Yeah the code is pretty simplistic and there aren't many great shots but the theme overall is awesome and the car bash toy was a fun idea. It's not a great pin but I don't think it's worst ever by a long shot.

#64 1 year ago

(edit)

I don't think this type of thread is helpful.

Funny, maybe?

But kinda mean to some companies and designers.

I removed my comment.

#65 1 year ago
Quoted from Puffdanny:

AIQ for it's lackluster shots

Uhhhh, no. Just no.

#66 1 year ago

Well, some great designers have had bad games, as many Pinsiders said in his reviews and previous topics, for example:

Ed Krynski: The Incredible Hulk

Steve Kordek: Darling/Jubilee, Big Ben

Greg Kmiec: Ro-Go, Amigo, Spy Hunter, Cybernaut, Motordome, City Slicker

Jim Patla: El Toro, Monte Carlo, Rolling Stones, Rapid Fire

Mark Ritchie: Road Kings

Claude Fernandez: Granny and the Gators (concept really looks interesting, but video mode really bad)

Ward Pemberton: Hardbody

Tony Ramunni: All of Mr. Game's tables

John Trudeau: Rocky, Raven, Gold Wings, Spring Break, Bugs Bunny's Birthday Ball

Python Anghelo: Bugs Bunny's Birthday Ball, Zingy Bingy (never released, but looks disgusting, especially booby bumpers)

Joe Kaminkow: Playboy 35th Anniversary, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Data East), X-Files, South Park, all of his re-themes

John Borg: Indiana Jones (2008), Big Buck Hunter (if Raw Thrills published bad games, Stern answered exactly the same way)
Some games really mediocre, such as High Roller Casino and Austin Powers

Tom Kopera: The Rolling Stones

#67 1 year ago
Quoted from MrBally:

Agreed, one of the worst ever.

Scuba? I'm surprised, it's not bad, have owned my $100 one for years. Just surprised it's mentioned, as there are so many worse games out there. Darling, good god is that horrible. Big Ben, horrible. Spy Hunter, definitely up there as the worst. Baby Pac, garbage (searched for one forever, got it, hated it). I actually hated my Family Guy, couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Stern Rolling Stones, horrible. There are definitely a lot of crap games out there.

Irishbastard said best

Quoted from Irishbastard:There are definitely a lot of crap games out there.
Lucky for us in pinball somebody likes the turds and will pay 3k to 10k or more for them to.

Each manufacture has made scrub games and will continue to. Suspect many were ruined by the bean counters with cost reduction measures or re-themed last minute. Some just crap that should of never left white wood stage but they made it anyway because they needed something and rushed it out the door. I just wonder what games didn't make it. Would they be fun and make in the top 100 pinside list.

Rapid Fire, no, just no. I wanted to like it but could not even stand playing for a minute

Time Fantasy, Could not get into this game either

I love so called Boat Anchors!

WNBJM is very special and totally under appreciated piece of art with a very addictive rule set.
Gilligan's is simply " The BEST game ever"
BBH is just the best multiplayer fun with the best call outs
All games have a certain appeal to someone and you should never judge until you have played.

However there can only be one worst game ever! Thunderbirds or I call Blunderturds.
Its no secret I dislike the owner but this does not effect my judgement of any game. Hate the player not the game.
I have never ever walked away from a game while still on first ball. Not even BBBB had that.

#74 1 year ago

I’ve owned about 70 games from every era. My absolute least favorite game that I have owned is Stern Harley Davidson. I think it’s annoying, poorly designed and just not fun.

#75 1 year ago

Best thing about Popeye is the negative hype about it. I bought one and I’m not disappointed by it at all

Well, i agreed with you. I also disagree with the negative opinions of some Pinsiders about some pinballs from the greatest designers, for example:

Tony Kraemer: Hot Tip, Disco Fever, Algar, Pharaoh, Varkon (concept looks interesting), Pool Sharks

Steve Kirk: Truck Stop

Steve Kordek: Pokerino

Jim Patla: Space Invaders

Greg Kmiec: BreakShot

George Christian: Future Spa, Black Pyramid (on your view), Beat the Clock

Claude Fernandez: Torpedo Alley, Airborne

Steve Ritchie: Stellar Wars, RollerGames, No Fear: Dangerous Sports, Elvis, World Poker Tour, 24

Mark Ritchie: Big Guns, Police Force (due the catchy Chris Granner music), Fish Tales, Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure, Kingpin

Barry Oursler: Laser Ball, Scorpion, Fire!, Police Force, Bad Cats, Harley Davidson (Bally), Doctor Who, Jack-Bot, Junk Yard

Python Anghelo: Big Guns, The Machine: Bride of Pin-Bot, Fish Tales, Flipper Football

John Trudeau: Spirit, Genesis (due the Metropolis theme), Hollywood Heat (due the Steve Ritchie's opinion), The Machine: Bride of Pin-Bot, Congo and especially Judge Dredd and Ghostbusters

Dennis Nordman: Dr. Dude, White Water, Whoa Nellie! Big Juicy Melons

Ward Pemberton: Gilligan's Island (finally)

Peter Perry: Atlantis

Brian Eddy: The Shadow

George Gomes: Johnny Mnemonic, Revenge from Mars, Transformers, Batman '66

Pat Lawlor: Safe Cracker, No Good Gofers, RollerCoaster Tycoon, Grand Prix (NASCAR), Shrek, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and his games at Jersey Jack Pinball

John Popadiuk: Star Wars Episode I

Joe Kaminkow: Phantom of the Opera, Back to the Future, Checkpoint (i play many times as a kid), Batman, Class of 1812, Guns N' Roses, Baywatch, Apollo 13, Batman '66

John Borg: Star Wars, Guns N' Roses, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Harley Davidson (Sega), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2020)

And these rare Capcom pinballs such as Pinball Magic and Big Bang Bar isn't that bad.

Some of the above looks very interesting.

My daughters favourite pin, and a good example of how a family friendly pin should be made.

Think about when it was made (1980s) and the target audience (arcade operators). Very unique features (the spinning bumpers and the moonscape playfield) grab attention - and the first quarter. The "blast to play" combined with quick ball drains means the second quarter comes quickly as the customer tries to do better against this new challenge. And 10 minutes later it's ready to repeat with the next guy's pocket change because there is never an A-level player running up a 30 minute game. I'd guess it earned well in a high-traffic location and maybe could still do so today. Like SantaEatsCheese , I've had fun on this game when it was displayed at Allentown (thanks to whoever brought it ... in 2019 I think).

In my own collection, IJ pinball adventure is the worst. I don’t know why this game is so popular. The ramps are Houdini level difficult and yes, my skills suck. But I tried. For 20+ years. I know, sad.

#82 1 year ago

Anyone remember this one? lol. I don't think it ever made it to production.

I have almost every single WPC DMD. To me, IJPA is the best of them. I play it the most. Love it so much we have two of them and we will be doing full restorations on both of them shortly.

Not everyone is going share my opinion of it. But, it’s an a-list pin and deservedly so.

You tried to hit the ramps on IJ for 20 years and you can't?

Umm...wow.

I like our popeye. IMHO, it’s biggest issue is that, more often than not, the objective isn’t apparent nor are the rewards for completing them.

#89 1 year ago

Games with sub- mini- playfields. AC/DC premium and Congo, looking at you. I know they are popular, have owned both. The senseless sub- playfield destroys the flow.

#90 1 year ago
Quoted from IgorZhu:

Mark Ritchie: Road Kings

Not puffing this game, but it is severely underrated and hated on for NO reason. I LOVE playing this game. It NEVER gets old hearing "Fight the road kings" and then trying to hit jackpots.

There are different strategies with risk/reward, etc. and its a killer theme imo. Just a cool ass pinball machine. And they're CHEAP.

Its simple, like HS, and i actually prefer it TO hs.

#91 1 year ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

Didn't miss much.

Yeah, I've played it... I meant unfortunate more as in the pre-order buyers lost their asses and the Predator theme was wasted.

I always thought Dr Who sucked... cool theme tho.

I’m biased, but I agree. Scuba is very fun head-to-head. Solo I can see why it wouldn’t last long in a collection

Top 1 on my list of underrated games. Sold it at PinFest and already miss it. First Chris Granner classic too.

Yeah Road Kings is a pretty decent game tbh. Saying Road Kings sucks is a very 2010 opinion (or earlier I dunno, I wasn't paying attention too much earlier than that)

Quoted from DiabloRush:

Phantom of the Opera. Shameless cash-grab that tried to ride the coattails of the Andrew Lloyd Weber muscial. Has none of the music or anything else. Total bait and switch. Awful game with shallow rules and a PG-13 art package.

You do know that the Phantom of the Opera wasn't just a broadway show right? It was a book from 1909. The broadway show came out in 1986, the pinball machine 1990. 4 years later feels a bit late to ride coattails. By your logic, Andrew Lloyd Webber was just making a shameless cash-grab himself. I'd say it was an adaptation of the story itself, not a rip off of the musical.

#98 1 year ago

WWE with the huge ring upper PF is bad.
