Sometimes, when you discover that a place near you has a pinball machine, you're overjoyed with excitement; but then you head there and the machine looks horrible. Sure, a classic machine like Twilight Zone or TAF could be there, but when you play it, there's slant on the play field, terrible wear, dirt, multiple balls dispensing, and all kinds of other issues. I haven't played a bad one in my life, but if any of you pinheads have, please share.

A White Water in Vegas about 10 years ago.

I don't remember much about it, other than there were plastics floating around the playfield, and only one of the flippers was working. It was also dirty as hell, and the GI lights were out. A complete wreck.

I played a Nascar at a camp ground club house that was awful. Car in the middle was dangling by a lose nut, balls would get hung up all over and it would eventually give you another ball, but this would happen over and over. They also had a pitch and bat next to it that wouldnt do anything. I dont get why people even turn these machines on or leave them on...what is the point? Fuel your denial?

Corvette with broken left flipper... since April... fix the damn game!

All the games at KDB at Easton Town Center in Columbus, OH

    #6 4 years ago

Oh, there's a WCS94 on the Ohio Turnpike at a service center that was just horrible that last two times I've been there. Flippers couldn't make either ramp....

Riviera Casino Hotel in Vegas, December 2009.

    TOM has *no* DMD.
NBAFB won't accept coins and has a bad DMD where you could see 1/8 of the screen.
RBION has a completely missing scoop assembly and bad DMD.
HS actually worked, but was filthy.
WH2O "worked" but bad DMD, missing mountains and crushed lock targets that don't work.

There was also this Family Guy gem from across the street at Circus, Circus during the same trip...

I don't. Back in 2009 my cell phone didn't take great pics, so I just grabbed these couple because I was so amazed at how bad the condition was and I didn't have a camera on me.

Rolling Stones at the Riviera Casino.

Mick was missing his head, but still strutting around the middle of the machine.

    #13 4 years ago

Wow that FGY was dirty. I played a TOM at a bowling alley in Fort Worth a number of years ago....the left flipper was extremely weak...so shots up the ramp were impossible....still managed a free game, since the reply score was so low

    #14 4 years ago

Yesterday, WOF. Must have had a stuck switch on the left ramp, just keeping dinging up the score. had 409 ramp shots in the first 30 sec. of play. Very Annoying. I shut the game off and left a note.

My local Sopranos has half a stripper, but it's the good half.

Went to a bar in Jersey when I first heard they had an AC/DC. I wanted to see what everyone was talkin' about. Well, it was the pro and was terrible! Only months later I played the LE at a friend's house and finally saw how cool it was...

We had this happen at SS Billiards. I rolled the score and still ended up with 7.9 billion. Got 6 or so extra balls too. It was a ramp switch that was stuck.

Any machine that is on route by me. I can't remember the last time I walked up to one and it played with no issues.

    Super Mario Bros: Mushroom World

Play field was dirty and worn and most features didn't work including the slingshots. The DMD was also buggy.

However, most on-location machines seem to be rather dirty, unleveled, and occasionally have broken parts that never get fixed. (Or just temp fixes that break.)

Some operators have no problem taking peoples money, but won't invest a dime into maintenance. I find this rather infuriating.

    #20 4 years ago

ANY Avengers I've played on location. LE or Pro. Ball constantly hung up in the inlanes. Hulks not fixed, so you had to wait for ball search to fix the hangups. Worst new pin for a location.

NGG and TOM while visiting Tramore Ireland this year, but didn't get to play them. Both were out of order and neglected.Dublin had mick on a stick with a dodgy right flipper.Great country, but not much love for pinball.

To quote an American Picker, that's called "loving it to death." Won't fix, won't take care of it, won't sell.

finally found a NGG which ive always wanted to play, drove a while to play it an it tilted every time I touched any button, theres a heap more to many to mention....

    #26 4 years ago

Any machine with a bad flipper(s), does not matter the title.

    #27 4 years ago

    Hey,

I once walked up to a Stern Indiana Jones with 17 or 18 credits on it. I thought "sweet! Free pinball!"

There were no balls in the machine.

Monster Bash on location. Ball comes out of the right loop and straight down the middle.

    #29 4 years ago

This happened to me today. My town has only two locations with pinball- the one I knew about already has Whirlwind (dirty, but working) and Hook (broken).
So, naturally I was excited today to see a new location. In the picture I saw of it (I saw it in a real estate ad with a picture of the front of the building), it was a WCS. When I got there, it wasn't WCS; it was LW3(I guess it had been swapped out after the ad). I'm still cool with that- it's a game I haven't played, even if it isn't as highly regarded.

Put in 50 cents and pressed start. Nothing. Again. Nothing. 4 more times...nothing. It seemed like the button just wouldn't go in. As a last resort I hit the button really hard and finally the game started, though the button stayed pressed in for good. Awesome, the game started, I actually get to play!

Launch the ball and......non-working right flipper. Instant drain.

You know the worst part of a dead flipper? Ball save. It took me 5 balls to end this torture.

I contacted the op via email and said it was broken and that I'd be willing to buy it if for sale. It's in a location that gets zero use, so maybe there's a chance!

My local bowling alley had three games that weren't working for around three years.

A nearby hotel has two pins in a VERY humid room next to the swimming pool. The balls are literally covered in rust.

That's South Dakota Pinball for you.

    Probably not even worth buying.
