I've seen a few small hacks in my pickups, which are fun to troubleshoot and satisfying to properly fix. But goddamn, I can't believe some of the stuff I've seen here!

Woof. At least he color coded the wires.

From a local tech. As long as the bridge rectifier is touching the heat sink it's all good! Best part was the original one was still on the underside of the heatsink.

Picked up this Pinbot recently. The head base was a bit messed up. A previous owner decided to include not one, not two, but three interesting aftermarket head clamps. Some shitty washers were also installed to hold the head up! Screwed with - you guessed it - drywall screws. The bracket for one of the clamps is what messed up the wood base! So dumb.

This is the best repair I've ever seen. I didn't even notice it at first.
Pinbot visor target bracket. The target bank slides up and down in the channels on the far ends.
After taking it off, I realize the far left end has a big missing piece. Somebody fabricated an elegant curved metal bracket, then held it in place with a L bracket. The precision is so good I'm tempted to put it back in!

Another creative hack on my Pinbot project.
Taking apart the shooter assembly, the e-clip was a bit difficult to remove.
OP popped on some washer to hold it on. Surprisingly worked very well. Look at the shooter tip to get an idea how old this setup is.

Saw this on another site, not pinball related, but similar theme.
I sure hope that's a left-hand thread on that screw

OOF that color coding is certainly a guessing game!

Update - it seems like they were shorting the separate wires off the harness, one exposed wire. Removed the switching power supply and will rebuild the 5V and a couple connectors. Driver board is clean otherwise!

    Quoted from herbertbsharp:

You want the worst, you got it.
So this guy had a Demolition Man and he tried to use lag bolts to fasten the legs to the brackets in the cab. When they stripped out the threads this genius decided it was a good idea to drill holes through the legs and use self tapping screws to attach the legs *directly* to the cabinet. They tore the shit out of the wood. Mind you this is a Demo man, one of the heaviest modern pins you can get. The game wobbled back and forth on its legs in his family room. One good push from the side and the whole thing would have came down, possibly on his children.
To make matters worse, this was a CL deal. When I showed up the guy basically extorted another $300 over his asking price because everyone was calling him telling him what an idiot he was for selling it so cheap. That's the problem with CL 'deals' these days, most of them aren't.[quoted image][quoted image]

    Quoted from JethroP:

I like that idea so much I think I'm going to take a new rubber, cut it in half so I'll have two identical pieces. Get out the superglue, or maybe hot glue gun, and attach to the flipper. When it wears out I'll have the replacement ready. Or even thinking I could cut strips of different colored bands and glue them on for a Zebra look. Here's my idea. The possibilities![quoted image]

Another gem from FB. Somebody had a spool of Cat5 they couldn't wait to use. I have no idea what those brown PCB's are for.

In a Midway Wild Kingdom I bought. Thinking about moving this along because its been sitting for years in my garage as a project. Way past my skill level to unhack this fuckery
    [quoted image]

If you got the schematic out you could likely get it squared away in a couple hours.
The hardest part is the colors on the wiring harness fade dramatically over time, so most of it would be really making sure what color wire is what.

The "methed" up wiring job on an ESCO rotary merchandiser I picked up.
The jabroni that made this used whatever scraps of wire he had.
One wire will change FOUR times in just a short 20" run.
I tried making a schematic and seeing how it worked but so many wires that lead to nowhere, crappy butt splices, and ever-changing wire colors I just scrapped it and will be replacing the whole thing with an Arduino.
