I wouldn't exactly call that a hack, sometimes traces just flake off, overheat, etc. However, it does look like some significant heat damage has happened to that board, so that aspect was probably just carelessness.
Quoted from swedishc:I normally would agree, but in this case all of the capacitors and bridge rectifiers were just floating with no soldered connection to the board, just soldered to the wires.
Wow, didn't catch that!
Quoted from woz:I don't know if this has already been posted here but I just came across this connector nightmare

Quoted from KenH:I'd call this a brilliant repair - not a hack - cause I do this all the time
They last forever after you fix 'em like this.
Is this supposed to be a serious post?
Quoted from TecumsehPlissken:I hate finding these household wiring nuts in pinball machines ....... from my most recent purchase , Space Station

It's a good temporary fix if a game is on location, but when it comes back into the shop, it's rewarding to undo all that mess and either solder and heat shrink or replace the connectors entirely if needed. There are some cases where so much of the harness has been lost to servicing over the years a few extra inches of wire need to be spliced in though.
Quoted from pacmanretro:Supposed to have one of those old school round screw in florescents I believe...but never see them with it...prob hard to find.
I thought I read in the manual it's actually a 130v incandescent commercial sign bulb? A 6803 I found in a warehouse had one of these but it was an amber color.

Quoted from ChrisHibler:Speaking of fuse holders, this isn't the worst hack I've seen but it did make me think, "what da hey"?

Is this enough to tag Last Action Hero?
Quoted from uncivil_engineer:That SF2 was in horrible shape when I got it home. It's been my long term restoration project for over a year now.
Have you thought of buying a PIN2DMD LED display kit for full color?

Here is the autolaunch mechanism from a Lethal Weapon 3 I rebuilt today. It was terrible, see for yourself. Unfortunately I can't find a replacement plunger for less than $25 so I kept the original which is still good, just old. I also replaced the coil with one I had on hand.

Solder splat that cooled and I picked up after removing the old solder from the old coil:

Quoted from Atari_Daze:The nicest hack I've seen, a very expensive amphenol connector in today's pick up of a Stern Magic.
Actually considering just leaving it.
Can we upgrade this one to mod status?

Anyone else notice how the Motorola logo on the diode looks just like the Williams logo upside down?
So, what's the deal with that plaintiff's exhibit on Pengad legal label? I'd like to know the story behind that!
Quoted from Markharris2000:The bottom section of the board appears to have corrosion or some other defect. Perhaps the plaintiff was identifying a poor design and lack of ownership on outcomes? I don't think this is part of some sinister plot or other high crime situation. Just a guess...
I would think someone may have gotten shocked when playing it which could be why the label is on a board. I've seen several cases of games not being properly grounded and slightly electrocuting me.
