    Señor ding dong strikes again

    #302 9 years ago

Those bells are ridiculous. Radioshack was in existence then. A single push-button momentary switch would be much easier to find and cheaper.

    #303 9 years ago

I’m not sure if this is a hack, maybe a tip, or shortcut. So if the connectors of your Classic Stern get burnt up on the power rectifier board, just cut them off. Then find another game you are not using and cut off the .156 connectors and splice them on with butt crimp connectors. Make sure you keep all of the wire colors straight. This repair should last a few weeks until these connectors burn up. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I have a similar one on my Orbitor 1. Someone cut every wire between the head and the transformer panel, then spliced them back together. Ugly...but it's still working.

Haven't really dug into this part of my BK2K yet but it looks like a lamp cord jumping a couple of plugs together. I know the GI sure is not working lol.

    Looks "nuts" to me

But look on the bright side. If you ever wanted to sheetrock the underside of your playfield, this mod will totally support it

So I'm troubleshooting a GI problem....

batteries joined together by soldered wires , all of this mess was wrapped up in a bundle of black electrical tape hanging inside of the back box on a piece of string , at least they got em relocated off of the board / from a reimported Black Rose

If they used rechargeable batteries they could just snip the wires and plug it right into the wall

I had an Op tell me once that he did this to all of his games. My response was the same as your. At least they were off the board.

Someone "repaired" a piggyback at a system 80 board.... also notice the tag glued on the driverboard connector....

This mess was in one of my USA Football machines. I can't even remember what they were trying to achieve, but they had phone wire, other misc. low volt cable, a plug-in transformer, and a triple-decker board of some sort in there. They even relocated the coin door switches and had them tied in somehow.

    I believe that's a time travel device.

Getting those drop targets must be a treat. There's a lot of skill using the ricochet from the pop into the rubber to drop the target.

Were any of the flipper guts still present or did they leave you a void under the PF?

    not fun

Hand carved pine flipper bat and wooden dowel for a shaft. Why stop there? A blue rubberband to complete the ensemble.

    Now that's crafty, and sad

    Quoted from dothedoo:

Lifted the playfield of my friend's Space Shuttle tonight and found this......oy...

If I found that under my playfield, I would immediately start looking for a replacement playfield or entire pinball machine, and dump that for whatever I could get for it. That's a wiring nightmare!

The wires were there, but that's it. I had a full Gottlieb flipper mech, so that's whats in there now.

This is a fully functioning high voltage section? Why not put these components back on the board? This operator clearly had the skills to do it right

    #324 9 years ago

Smart to put a connector in between. If this one fails, one can easily replace the expansion kit.

I wish I took pictures of it, but just picked up a TMNT a few days ago. Someone in the past must have lifted the playfield at one time and put it back incorrectly so that it sat about an inch too deep. Instead of figuring out why it wasn't sitting correctly, they instead modded the machine to fit this gap at the front, meaning they tied the front of the pf to the hinge on the cab with picture wire and modded the plunger with aluminum foil to give it that extra length to strike the ball.

    Quoted from LilRocky:

Just "aluminum foil" or Quality HD Reynolds Wrap.... if they went to the extra effort to use the good stuff, I'd give them a pass

just picked up this SOF & got it home yesterday afternoon , probably not really a "hack" per say but .... well its pretty sloppy ..... maybe replacement plastics weren't available when this repair was made

Check out this nice power cord "conversion". I mean why spend the $2 on a brand new plug when you can cut the end off grandma's Orek and slap some good ol' gooey dollar store electrical tape on it?!

Not the worst I have seen but just shopped a G&R I brought a while ago and found these 2 coils on the main flippers, lots of hot glue, mastic/gunk and a bit of wire where the diode had snapped off, nice. Great soldering skills as well!

This Lazer ball may fall into the worlds grossest category. It was stored in a damp cellar thus covered from head to toe in puffy mold. Complete machine for 100.00 so I dare not make it a wasted trip. I strapped it to the top of my vehicle and drove home in the pouring rain. I first stopped at auto pressure wash station & blew the exterior mold off. You should have seen the looks from others as I pressure wash my pinball machine. Once home, I threw it off the top of vehicle. This allowed me to remove parts and burn wood asap! This is not a re-do!
