Recent started some work on a Mars Trek:

When you don't have a proper flipper coil, any old solenoid you can find in the garage will work (plus a extra heavy duty spring).

Dont know how to repin a connector? Just cut one off a different game and solder it in.

Right? Why the hell put those fuses on there if all they're gonna do is blow. Stupid design.

Maybe they were just adding looped test points

A co-worker of mine used to say that fuses blow because they are bad quality. He also told me that fuses are rated according to their quality, 1A being the worst and 10A being the best.

Cool. I have found a bunch of 20A fuses so they must be the best of all! I’m gonna replace all my pinball fuses with 20As, then sit back and enjoy years of trouble-free flipping. What would I do without Pinside!?!

Nope. 60amps are even better. Little bit snug on the fit but they will never blow

    A fuse measuring contest!

    #2363 4 years ago

This is what I wear when changing fuses in my machines:

Bill accidentally put a fuse in that was too small. This is what happened. Knocked out an entire substation and the 2018 Ottawa Pinball Show had to be cancelled. Don't be like Bill.

    Quoted from RandyW:

Same. I have, with clients permission, just super glued these back on as well. Bad design, they just don't last long. Chuck an LED in there and glue it together.

Had the same problem with an EBD I think it was Steve from PBR who suggested small amount of clear caulk so they could be pried apart later if need be.

    #2366 4 years ago
    Quoted from Shredso:

    Does it work?

Yes, it works just fine - at what cost I am not sure as I am sure this solenoid pulls some decent current.

And in opposite-world, there was a scandal a while back about Chinese-made automotive blade style fuses that were rated incorrectly. Say for example a 5A fuse would take MORE than 5A to blow...which was good for letting the smoke out of faulty circuits, a helpful diagnostic tool; but not much good for overall vehicle electrical integrity and safety.

Pinball machines are like old cars-sometimes you just gotta blow the cob webs out. That’s why people use foil in place of fuses!

Agreed. We use to have to make similar items when I was in Jr. High sheet metal class. I still have the sugar scoop I made for my mom.
The guy who made this channel had some good sheet metal skills.

Picked up a Slugfest from Texas that had a reset issue. The OP expended significant effort in his repair such an extended heat sink, a huge 120v direct wire fan and a carton of Winston’s. Love it...

Well, well!! Look what's now up for sale. I guess it ended up not playing as well as he thought it would with the post "mod"? I mean, why bother doing all that work on a high value item if you knew that there was a high chance that it wouldn't work out? That's like putting a lift kit on a pristine Ferrari and then trying to sell it. LOL at the comment

    #2392 4 years ago

Someone will get a good deal on that. Sure you got a couple extra holes under the flippers, but it will barely be noticeable while playing.

    #2393 4 years ago

Ugh. These are a complete mess, from a STTNG.

With a little bit of work I got them both functioning, but it didn’t end up much prettier.

Let the rectifiers hang in the air. That will dissipate the heat better.
