Cost of a bracket = $2.50. Cost of a quick weld job at operators shop = $0.25...

    #2152 4 years ago

I think who ever owned the game wanted the original flipper bracket design.
    e.g. Black Knight.

Yep, someone just cut the wires instead of unplugging. WHY ? Just WHY?
I'm in the process of soldering.

Because there are people out there who don't know about the connectors and figure everything is permanently wired. Which is rarely the case in anything with wires in it.

MaxAsh posted this on his bringing back to life a Blackout thread. Thought I would show the community the hack he ended up with.

I wonder if there has ever been an incident where someone used an actual crutch for a leg on a pinball machine? Instant award!

Just came to post this . It's one of several bad ideas the former owner had, but this was the one most worthy of posting. The best part? The guy is an electrician by trade. Gave me his card and everything.

    #2163 4 years ago

Sorry didn’t mean to take your spot light but I made sure to mention you. I’m no electrician but Loose his card. I will write my number on a piece of paper and do a better job the that. Lol

Well ya know, once it mushrooms at all then you gotta cut the bastard off to remove it from the housing and that takes actual work, so just leave it be..!

Well, the guy had the right idea. Williams did move from using compression springs and replaced them with expansion springs. but I'm not sure on which pins.

I'd like to convert my old pins to expansion springs for more positive action but have not yet figured out a way to do it without it looking like an abortion.

I assume this is your pin. Have you played with the expansion springs as pictured? If so, how does it play?

It's simple, buy the newer rebuild kits (or simply use the spring bracket from some old plungers you replaced), drill a little hole in the EOS bracket if you want it to look super clean or just attached the spring to the EOS screw. Done. Just did it on my Whirlwind. Flippers are so much better.

    #2176 4 years ago

Working on a hardbody, interesting hack. Guess one of the switches made the coil lock on.

Mine would be a custom application for my old Sterns. I have to find the right springs and figure out what kind of bracket to use/make. It is on my to-do list. I would like the spring to be self-contained within the flipper bracket

Someone must have had some spare angle iron laying around with no real purpose...

Like this? Couldn't stand the flipper bounce when it was released.

Thanks. I'll check that out. But I am thinking a drop target spring might work, too. I would have never thought about making the connection points the way Mitch did.

No need to cut it off. File it smooth, or better yet, hit it with a grinder and you're done. Easy.
