I needed to revive this thread the moment I got this Congo in the shop to work on. What do you do when you don't have the right replacement targets, why you go ahead and screw another one into the playfield...

Wish I had a photo, but there was a TAF on location with the electric chair scoop TURNED AROUND. So you were shooting at a block of metal. I think it had masking tape wrapped around it, but I don't recall. Sadder still, that was the most playable of the 6-7 pins at that location.

NASCAR I/O board - sad hack.

HO-LY SHIT. It looks like someone vomited on the board, then dripped solder on top of it and took a blowtorch to it.

    #155 9 years ago

Wow how's that game not on fire.

    #156 9 years ago

    Pretty sweet reliability mod there.

Wow...that guy's got talent. That looked like it took more work than replacing the connector.

The axial cap with no label on it is a nice touch too. What's polarity?

I can never remember if it's always the rule, but generally the side with the depressed ring around it is positive.

This came from my comet project. Not a terrible hack job, but seems like more work than it would have been worth to just get the correct display glass/PCB to replace with. From the back of a matching display.

That's actually ingenious. I wouldn't even be mad! Keys are cheaper than those stupid pieces of sheet metal that ALWAYS seem to break.

My Comet that came from N.J. had spiders in it, one flipper needed WD40 in the plunger, bulbs rolling around underneath, Ferris Wheel belt lasted about 50 games. Couple burned out bulbs ( of course under all the ramps ) not all the lights would flash. Rusty leg levelers, only 3 leg levelers sent. LED ALL red on one side. ALL blue on the other.

No pics, but I once owned a reimport funhouse that every single coil in the game had been greased. It made for a fun afternoon of cleaning.

I just picked up a Hurricane that had too weak of a Ferris wheel to turn the ball over. So they just blocked it off.

Actually, that's kind of a clever solution for a broken rubber if you don't have the right size on-hand.

From a Flash Gordon I was restoring. Glad they had the right size. they had also taped razorblades over the side lanes so the ball would not drain.

I love this thread. The staple on the ring is interesting. I have heard of people super gluing broken rings back together. If you are trying to fix a machine on location in a pinch that is one thing. An owner with a machine at home, no excuse.

looks great if you don't mind completely messing up the artwork the designer created. I did do it to my machine just to see how bad it would be, it was worse in person than the pics people post.

In your opinion. I didn't even realize the artwork depicted half blue/half red robot arms coming down each side of the playfield, until I saw that someone accented it with colored LEDs. A lot of folks like that look, so
