Did they seriously put coin-doors on Arcade 1ups? My guess is that in a week the majority of them will be broken. What a joke haha...

#3 1 year ago

I didn't think we were allowed to bash arcade operations here anymore.

If someone can make money on Arcade 1Ups, more power to them! But that looks like it's in some perv's basement.

#4 1 year ago

Hey.....gotta start somewhere. And it still looks fun.

#7 1 year ago

What makes it “80’s themed”?

The crappy 80’s porno basement theme or the fact that it looks like an abandoned 80’s laundromat?

How on earth did this make the news?

#8 1 year ago

What a joke. Anyone can do this, just go to Wal-mart and buy these themselves. They basically just bought a showroom for the Arcade 1up company that 1up doesn't have to pay for. LOL

I assume they also have a lemonade stand at the entrance of this... "establishment."

#10 1 year ago

i would think it would cost more and be more work to add a coin door to a 1up, than it would be to just buy the damn original.

Arcade 1ups are nothing but cardboard garbage (IMO). I owned one for approx 3 hours before I had to get it out of my house.

It's particle board haha & plastic it certainly won't survive...

#13 1 year ago

80’s themed arcade, with literally no games from the 80’s pictured......remakes yes, but nothing actually from the 80’s, lol.

Funny. When I saw the title I was thinking, "please don't let it be me". You never know what a disgruntled customer might post.

I stand relieved.

I believe it. One thing I learned about you on here is you don't waste time when you don't like something!

haha! That made me chuckle. Reminds me of Jackbar and their amazingly funny shirts.

Hey. He had to squeeze this news story in between narrating 1980s VHS safety training videos!

Live look outside before doors open.

I wonder if Arcade1UP could have them shut down as the software may have a requirement that it is for non-commercial use. I'm only speculating here and do not know one way or the other.

Legal issues aside - I'm honestly surprised one of these machines was capable of holding the coin door in physically. Coin doors are pretty heavy!

Wait until one of those $0.75 drinks gets spilled on the game and it soaks into the MDF!

Oh lord, this news station is no more than the AV Club at the high school. The meet the staff page is wonderful.

The Arcade Legends Ultimate is a fairly good cabinet. Lots of potential with it too!

a James Bond LE probably costs more than the entire building

The coin doors have to be decorative... right? No one would go to the expense of trying to find a way to wire in, and program, coin mechanisms on a 1-up?

This whole thing seems like an April Fools day joke.

Yes, you can buy that decal.

#27 1 year ago

First 5 seconds of the video were the best part.

Yes. The "games" are coin style. Doesn't mean they operate on coins. There is a cover charge to enter.

I am guessing that reporter, and that station, haven't won too many Emmy's. I don't think they have a single person over the age of 25.

Surely the worst arcade ever for you guys, would be a row of VP PinCabs. I mean, can you imagine the horror.

Here I am at the old PHOF taking the piss out of a PinCab (Tim in the background). I love virtual pinball but not a fan of PinCabs myself.

They host birthday parties. Imagine dropping your kid off at that place thinking beforehand it's an arcade similar to Chuck E Cheese, and then pulling up to that building.

Really what do kids care? As long as they have fun. This dude is already taking more crap than "Otaku" with his Ad nauseum Arcade. Give him a fair chance.

#38 1 year ago

Times are tough. Dude came up with an idea. He'll either sink or swim.

Oh I'm sure they'd have fun. I don't mind Arcade 1up's at all and I like the few that I have, it's just that place looks sketchy as hell.

According to their Facebook page:

"no skee ball or other games like that. It is just standup arcade games and a few crane games.
All the games are 25 and 50 cents to play..."

Amazing. I've read different.

I wonder which it is. And if really on coin play, how they managed that ?

LTG : )

#42 1 year ago

There's hope! Responding to a question on FB, they said "once the arcade starts to really takeoff, we are planning on adding pinball machines as well."

I agree with the prior posts that say the place looks really sketchy. However, I wish them luck.

#43 1 year ago

There was a new bar that opened up while back that promoted their arcade and free play arcade night. It was nothing but like 4 1ups and a tv with mini SNES connected to it. Lol we didn't last long

How were the able to get coin mechanisms to work on 1ups? Did he saw off the front of the machines so that he could install coin mechs? How was he able to get the game to recognize the coin drops and turn them into credits? or maybe... does Arcade 1up have a commercial line? I am so confused.

They might not be able to fit a coin door on that....but they could use one of those push-in-thingys like on sticker machines and bar sized pool tables.

#48 1 year ago

This is a great idea. Kids dgaf about originality and have no idea. Pretty impressive if he hacked them for coin play and kind of a waste imo. Pay by hour is the most profitable operator model.

Low upfront investment, low maintenance costs, unique concept.

Looks like a winner to me. Sorry it's not your old hangout from your teens.

#49 1 year ago

That news station is probably trying to figure out why this video has so many hits. They are all sitting around thinking “News Emmy here we come!”

Oh how times have changed. I remember 15 years when my daughter was about 7, We had no pins a few arcade games, we were struggling to raise a child. I almost bought one of those Zizzle POTC machines for her because she loved the movie so much, looked fun but it was still expensive at about $500! Grateful. I can only imagine how some new parents might feel now with the pressure buy a JJP TS4 at $15k?! Keeps things in perspective. Thanks for the memories.
