Not necessarily something most pinsiders are proud of (unless you have a wide-body ) but what is the most worn playfield you've ever owned, had restored, swapped out, or perhaps are even still playing on? Pictures Please!

My offering is not bad, but clearly not in its prime -- Stern Nine Ball.

This was a Black Hole I owned about 15 years ago. Ended up switching out the playfield with a nice one I found.

Ok I know who to go to for my touch-ups now.

Awesome work. Did you use a stencil, or did you paint it all by hand?

#15 2 years ago

Pictures from a Paragon I picked up this past weekend. 20 inserts had popped and sunk in. Probably been played for several years like that.

Wow! Thats some serious skill, I would have figured that playfield was done.

By hand. Section by section. One color at a time. With tiny-ass brushes. The only reason I wanted to try and save it was because this is a sample game, and I was trying to keep as much of it original as possible. And yes, every star in the ‘galaxy’ area is an individual dot. That part alone took me like 3 full days. Ugh, #triggered.

The final product looks amazing. You should be proud of the work you put into it.

Don’t sell yourself short; the more detailed a playfield is, the easier it is to hide your mistakes. It’s those large patches of color that are deceptively tough. Your finished product looks great.

Posting a follow up to my first playfield touch up and clear coat. I had a good foundation to start with before:

After fixing the issues with the two and four balls as well as around all the inserts (all of them!):

Spectacular work, man! I've done a few tough challenges but DAMN!

Nice work! Did you freehand the scores or did you use a stencil?

I got paddled in first grade for not coloring within the lines. So, no, I still can't color in the lines! All of the black was done on the computer and printed on waterslide decals - the one shown in the pic above. You can read more about the playfield restoration process here:

http://www.pecospinball.com/aztec_playfield_restoration.shtml

I don't do full playfield restorations these days. I just don't have the time. But I started the restoration on this King Pin playfield almost two years ago. I am finally getting to it because I am trading this King Pin for a Jack In The Box. I grew up playing Jack In The Box and I am a sucker for that backglass art!

It's far from perfect, but I do prefer the after version over the before version!

Liking the custom apron as well. Will the balls light up?

#34 2 years ago

Thanks guys. The balls are mini poolballs so it would be tricky to make them light up

Cab has the wood theme also

Fun topic!

Here's the worst one I've attempted to restore. My two girls helped, we repainted the entire thing by hand, it's still underway on another thread here and I'm currently in the process of clearing it.

That's not the worst pf in my possession though. I have an El Dorado that is truly disgusting and should be the next project after Bad Cats is done. Or at least that was the plan until I stumbled into a worn-out Time Fantasy...

One of two I found rotting away in a warehouse.
