In the same vein, a historical pin based on the late stages of the Roman Republic and Empire would be pretty cool as well.

Interestingly enough, the one thing all the countries had in common that were murdering so many of their own people (China, Germany, Russia) and causing the war (China, Italy) all had a couple things in common - a very powerful centralized federal government. They also had populist undertones (even Nazi Germany, though it is viewed to be the opposite side of the spectrum).

Sorry, meant japan for the second one. China sure did kill a lot of their own people though. Way more than Germany. Not discussed as much though.
