Quoted from Zampinator:

Post pics when your done please. I'm interested in the pop bumper caps. Thanks

After reading the various Pinside WPT threads along with other online info/videos, I picked one up a couple of weeks ago. I'm getting set to add numerous upgrades to it including the BriteCaps as well. I purchased one red, one blue, and one clear and am hoping to enhance them with the WPT theme. I'll post pics when done.

I just finally finished overhauling my WPT that I purchased a couple months ago. Stripped the playfield down completely; went thru all the mechs; cleaned and polished EVERYTHING; and installed a bunch of upgrades including the following:

• Premium 2 non-ghosting Cointaker LEDs
• mirror blades
• red, white, and blue BriteCaps w/ WPT poker chips for tops
• new upper playfield
• playfield protector sheet
• DMD anti-glare film
• assorted removable WPT poker chip stacks (still experimenting with these)

The glass was actually off when I took the photos below - the glare is from the playfield protector:

Quoted from asay:

I really like those stacks of chips. Are they glued together? How did you fasten them down?

I hot glued the chip stacks together and then to the following 3M "Command fridge clips":

http://www.command.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/NACommand/Command/Products/Catalog/~/Command-Clear-Fridge-Clips?N=5924736+3294529207+3294737323&rt=rud

The clips (without the accompanying adhesive strips) enable the stacks to be attached to any available open plastics location and subsequently relocated or removed as desired.

Quoted from Atomicboy:

That's great, I love the chips! I might have to do that.
Where did you get the pop bumper caps and/or decals? I'm interested in those too.
Can you wire those pop bumper led rings to the pop bumper coil as well, so they go off when it pops?

Thanks. The pop bumper caps are BriteCaps with WPT poker chips glued to them. They connect into the existing pop bumper bulb socket and the LEDs turn on whenever the pop bumper was originally intended to.

The World Poker Tour chips are available on eBay - you choose your color(s). I paid $14 for a set of 100 including shipping.

Quoted from Astropin:

Finally got it sorted out. That opto was being a real bitch. Took the whole thing apart, cleaned the opto's did some tweaking and it still didn't want to work right. Messed with the top half some more and finally got it working.....been working 100% since.
So this is the first time since I bought it that my game has been working 100%. First game 115,871,780 Grand Champion. Just missed getting to the WPT Championship by a couple of hands.

Congrats on getting your WPT working and for your GC score! Is your game set on factory settings and slope? That is WAY better than I've been able to do in my limited play to date.

Just blew up my old GC tonight. Got to WPT Championship for the first time....totally blew that mode though as the balls drained one, two, three!

Most impressive!

I'm not worthy. I'm not worthy.

Quoted from Beatnik-Filmstar:

So in the "Make Jan 31st the WHERESOURCODE Stern!!!" complaint thread, someone mentioned that WPT was amongst the games that Stern never finished the code for. Had never heard of this before and am curious about it. I mean, WPT is usually listed amongst the games with the deepest rulesets - up with TSPP and LOTR. Anyone know of what they're referring to?
I don't own one, but it's on my short list due to it's rule set reputation. Now kinda curious.

Interesting. I just listened to Clay Harrell's late 2008 TOPcast interview with Keith Johnson this past week and according to KJ, with the exception of a few minor things, the code for WPT was pretty well completed. As compared to other games that he worked on, it sounded like WPT's code is in good shape.

He also mentioned that he didn't expect that Stern would ever be doing anything further on this game code-wise. I doubt that that has changed at all in the 6+ years since.

You've put together some creative WPT alternate designs, but this one seems a bit too busy (too many layers and too many elements).

Also, while an attractive woman is always a plus, one in a t-shirt and jeans doesn't really convey world class poker to me.

I think my ideal WPT alternate would be one that emphasizes basic poker elements such as cards and chips surrounding a tastefully done, elegantly dressed beautiful woman in a playful pose with a muted yet colorful background - perhaps a simplistic montage of casino/city icons from around the world.

Now that I've played a good number of games on my WPT, I've noticed that the best Texas Hold 'Em hand I've gotten is a full house and these seem to be pretty rare.

Is there a setting that I may have missed that controls the frequency of higher value hands?

#334 9 years ago
Quoted from pinball_keefer:

The hole cards are biased towards "interesting" combinations. The board is random. So the odds are slightly increased in your favor of better hands but only through the hole cards. I don't remember exactly but it's something like
20% pair (the pair is random)
20% suited connector (which connectors are random)
20% unsuited connector
20% suited nonconnectors (not sure, but this might be just 2 suited cards and if they wind up being connectors, then great)
20% garbage (I think could accidentally be something else by luck)

Thanks for this info. So apparently, it is what it is (no adjusting frequency of higher hands).

Ah well - guess I'll just have to keep playing away to see a four of a kind or straight/royal flush!

2- Gary Stern

I never made the connection before, but it makes sense now that you've pointed it out. Thanks!

I was happy to see that WPT was the featured game on "Bro, do you even PINBALL?" this week:

Quoted from Grimes:

Hey, I joined the club about 8 months ago (after reading these pages for a long time).
I wanted to thank everyone for their posts in this topic because it really helped me make an informed decision on my first pin, WPT.
I am very happy with the purchase and find the game fun and challenging (I am still finding new things to do!). I just put together an LED kit, have a new upper playfield to install, and plan to put in translucent rubber rings from titan. I will post pictures when completed!
Thanks again everybody!

Congrats on joining the club and glad to hear that you've been enjoying your WPT!

I look forward to seeing your photos - especially the translucent rings.

Quoted from Fast-Ed:

Just picked up a world poker tour. I disabled the flop, river gate and it makes the game so much more enjoyable. Were is this gate that people say to take off and what does that do. As usual I may or may not keep it,so I might trade it if someone is looking for one. Ed

At the top of the left orbit (next to the "Cut the Cards" scoop). When in place, the one-way gate prevents the ball from entering the left orbit lane from the top (full orbit shots from right to left).

#432 8 years ago

I haven't had any problems with the center target bank either so I've never altered it.

Hmmm ... I applaud the effort for any alternate WPT translites, but this one has a bit too much "less" for me personally. I'd prefer to see the "WPT" logo less prominent and more color and images in the background to differentiate the translite from the backbox. As it is, the overall blackness creates too much of a box-like effect to my eye.

#455 8 years ago
Quoted from HankScorpio:

Added another version with card suits on top and bottom. See original post.

The addition of the card suits is definitely an improvement! I'd be interested in seeing your other idea of showing the name of each tournament city in a particular color too if you have a chance. I think that would emphasize the variety of locations as well as add some more color.

Thanks!

Quoted from WakiMiko:

Hey guys, I'm looking to join the club. Is there anything I should specifically watch out for? Any common problems/issues with WPT?

I haven't run into any real issues in the year and a half I've owned mine other than the Ace In The Hole lock occasionally not registering due to typical opto malfunctions.

Quoted from stoptap:

I pick up a WPT on Sunday.

Congrats!

I've added (and can recommend) the following mods for WPT:

• ColorDMD display
• Custom instruction cards
• Undercab lighting
• Speaker Light Kits speaker lights and acrylics
• Playfield LEDs
• BriteButtons illuminated LED flipper buttons
• Mirror blades
• Playfield protector
• New (replacement) upper playfield
• BriteCaps LED bumper caps
• FlashInstinct's (Pinsider) target & AITH decals
• Super-Bands flipper rubbers & mini post rubbers
• Cliffy shooter eject and lane protector
• Pinball Life premium ultra-gloss pinballs
WPT poker chips
• PinGulp beverage holder

Additionally, Laseriffic makes a topper for WPT that's nice and I hope to add PDI glass at some point.

#474 7 years ago

For anyone interested, I came across this recently added WPT gameplay/info video on YouTube that's pretty good:

In fact, all of the various pinball game videos by Austin (AKM Pinball Videos) appear to be of good quality and he provides them in different versions too: with and without commentary, as well as a rotated full screen image for best viewing on cell phones and tablets.

#479 7 years ago
Quoted from Grimes:

I'd recommend adding Flipper Fidelity's Animated LED Backbox Light to that list.. I don't own one, but I saw it in action and it looks really nice - makes the translight look good, lol.

Thanks - I wasn't aware of that one. I'll have to give that some consideration as maybe the translite could use a little help.

Quoted from stoptap:

Question for you seasoned WPT drivers. What determines the final score of a Hold Em hand ? I know the chips have a bearing. Why do you sometimes get a 2x value ?

The alternating 3X multiplier in the inlanes can also be applied toward the final value. So if you have a strong hand, ideally you want to run up the chip count by shooting the orbits repeatedly and then have the ball feed through a 3X lit inlane right before shooting (and making) a ramp for the river card.

However, if you have a crappy hand (high card or pair for example), probably best to save your 3X multiplier and just shoot the ramps to finish it and move on to the next hand.

Quoted from williams:

It actually happened!
I was able to triple this shot - I think it awarded 12M+

Congrats - that is amazing! To actually get a royal flush (which I never have come close to getting) and then to also successfully use the 3X with it has to be a highly rare occurrence.

I didn't buy a kit for my WPT, but I did replace all of my playfield bulbs with Coin Taker's Premium 2 non-ghosting bulbs and have been happy with them. The one time I purchased a kit from CT, it was missing various bulbs. Melissa was very good about correcting the problem, but it took a couple rounds of coordination to get things right.

#539 7 years ago
Quoted from QuickSilverShelby:

Did you use a frosted bulb or did you use one of their other LED bulbs?
QSS

I used frosted for the GI/back panel and the 2 LEDs under playfield inserts.

Sadly, I'm no longer a member of this prestigious club as my WPT is now speeding across country to its new owner.

Great game and I hope to be fortunate enough to rejoin at some point!

Quoted from Pinstein:

I really liked the layout that "Williams" posted so I emmulated it and made a couple of more options.

Outstanding!

Very nice incorporation of colors and world locations theme - I especially like the second one. I would be all over this if I still had my WPT!

Quoted from tominator:

ok...will try that...Thanks!

Or if you'd like more lighting effect options, replace the fluorescent bulb with an LED backbox panel. I like Flipper Fidelity's panels and they make one specifically for WPT. Intensity, color options, and patterns are all adjustable via remote control.

I'm just about done on shopping my wpt. I'm second guessing my decision on the yellow rubbers. In my head it looked better. I also added 2 spotlights on the slings and added a light under the right plastic. ...What do you think? Thanks

Nice WPT. Your second guessing your yellow rubbers choice is understandable though. I'd definitely change those again.

#657 6 years ago

Yep - I think mirror blades are a particularly excellent choice for WPT as they enhance its casino-like (and somewhat garish) artwork.
