Seven years and 1001 post.

Quoted from RockfordReplay:

I recall finding one side trapping the ball easier that the other. The marks certainly help as a starting point, perhaps a slight tweaking is necessary.
Side project that some may like; I have a debt to pay and intend to gift these to a certain Good Samaritan. These are actual sample-sets of the poker chips used for the filming of the Poker Superstars Tournaments. I bought them from the producer's wife many, many years ago. I collected chips and cards way back when.[quoted image]

Nice Poker Chip Collection.

I don't play mine very often, but it will never leave my line up.

Quoted from AlexRogan84:

Just a random observation... I'm surprised they included the call out for being dealt 6-9 off suite... as "dinner for two".

Found this on a poker site. Nickname for cards: this is for,
Nine-Six (9-6)
The Dirty – Just one of numerous terms in reference to the “69” sexual position. Numerous others are used including: Big Love, Big Lick (a takeoff on Big Slick), Good Lover, Breakfast of Champions, Happy Meal, Might Meal (when the cards are suited), and Prom Night. Players certainly used their imaginations with this one through the years.

After complete colorization for POTC on pin2dmd, i am finished another game - WPT. Here is fully colorized game without firmware modifications. Works on pin2dmd v 4.05 or later. Here is preview of colorized game. Who interested in files for real pinball let me know.

Just installed a pin2dmd, and got the file. What a fantastic job! It looks great and works perfectly.

Can anyone on here give me tips for replacing the right ramp?

I have removed all screws and bolts but it wont slide out.

I'm just curious if i have to go all the way and remove the upper playfield and some wireforms or if someone has done it before and can let me know exactly what else i have to remove to slide it out. Its so close! And I'm trying to avoid removing things unnecessarily because im a bit of a beginner and the upper playfield looks like a pretty complicated process.

Thanks!

I picked up a beautiful one of these just yesterday from a local Stern Distributer that took it in trade. It was routed to a local bar but hardly ever played.

He converted the whole thing to LED’s, added Titan rubbers, and replaced the dmd plasma with a NOS one.

I wanted a deep rule set game and didn’t like/couldn’t afford LOTR. I’m about 20 plays in, and am really loving the game.

Also I was a big fan of the show. It really revolutionized live poker and brought it into the mainstream in Vegas.

RIP Mike Sexton. Met him several times and he was always a consummate gentleman and ambassador for poker.

Nice pickup. It’s a very satisfying game with all the drops and the long shots. Fantastic rules as well.

If you do any mods be sure to post them!

Funny you mention that. The guy I bought it from said he’d buy it back from me for same price I paid for the next 3 years so long as condition stays good and that I promise to NEVER INSTALL MIRROR BLADES.

I almost spit my CocaCola out from laughing so hard. He HATES mirror blades and says that they break and get constantly scratched when you need to lift the play field.

#1009 2 years ago

Aside from the guy on eBay with those 4 photoshopped ones, any recommendations for some better custom backglass/translite art?

The eBay guy is this

I had an offer to install a colour dmd for $300 (normally $400).

Worth it?

#1012 2 years ago

Also, even if I wanted to install those awesome looking mirror blades, where would I get them?

Marco says they are sold out. The Pinside shop guy is closed down, and Steve at Pinball Resource doesn’t carry them.

#1013 2 years ago

I think I got my blades there.

And I think the ColoDMD is quite worth it. I put it on every game I own. They did a great job with this one.

Also LED OCD is wonderful on World Poker Tour.

Thanks! I checked out that site. Had the $110 blades in my cart and went to check out via PayPal when I saw the $32 shipping. Ouch. I’ll wait for Marco to get them back in stock. Just on principle I can’t pay $32 in shipping.

Yeah, I think I’m sold on getting the discounted colour dmd installation.

It already has super bright LED’s.

I do hope to see an alternate translite made that I like eventually but I’m not holding my breath. At least Courtney looks good.

#1015 2 years ago

Mine came to me with some mods installed. Of them, there were three small LED strips that I decided to remove. Just didn't like the way they lit things up.

The stacks of poker chips are a nice touch. I wouldn't have done those myself, but don't plan on removing them either. And the apron / card spots got done up nice with a few real playing cards and poker position markers.

And my translite is one of those alternate ones. I like it even though I don't mind the bizarro caricatures of the WPT cast on the original.

I respect the LW3. Nice pin. I miss mine a lot and I only traded it away 4 days ago.

In that alt translite, is the implication that the girl is holding her own boobs up or is it alluding to an off-camera fondler?

Perhaps I’m overthinking it.

Sorry I wasn't clear, the LED OCD board is an add on board that keeps the LED's from strobing, and also gives them a nice fade effect as opposed to ON/OFF. It's worth it.

Lolz. If you happen to be a fan of the early days of the show, I will give you that Courtney Friel PALED in comparison to the original hostess of the WPT in Seasons 1-3.

Shana Hiatt FTW!

Oh, absolutely true. But more than that, Courtney's picture on WPT really bothers me, especially on the translite. For certain, though: Shana was *far* hotter. Heck, even the Australian chick they have on there now, as old as she is, is probably hotter than Courtney. Courtney...Courtney didn't last very long for more than one reason, it would seem.

#1024 2 years ago

I think we’re not the only ones to notice Shana is a hottie. She went from being married to Vince’s brother to some porn star. Yikes. Put that image up on the alt translite lol.

This is a bit sad. Talk about a stripped down machine!

No red flashers, no drop targets. Wow.

It was a donation to the PHoF, as is. It works just fine, but I’m so glad I own near perfect one.

So you located a rare „Pro“ Version I guess
Any history on why it is so stripped? I mean it must be done on purpose. With different wiring. And Software to compensate the lack of drop targets.

I can’t blame the PHoF. It was free. Plus, it works (the drop targets are stand up targets). I doubt it drops much $, but some is better than none, I guess.

I honestly don’t know the backstory. I know that they got a bunch of crap from a couple Gameworks that went out of business.

The game thinks they are drop targets. It must have been rewired at some point. Maybe the previous owner had it on location and was tired of repairing drop targets (they obviously break down a lot more than stand up).

But that’s just a guess.

I know that this opinion is definitely in the minority, but after thinking about it for a while and owning the game for a bit, I must say that I actually LIKE the backglass.

From what I’ve been able to ascertain, the large number of people that despise the artwork and instead get the eBay generic Vegas/Boobs card girl translite probably were not fans of the show. I’d venture a guess that many that actually own the game have never even seen it.

Personally, I was a HUGE fan of the show when it debuted back in 2002. That show, combined with Chris Moneymaker winning the World Series of Poker were instrumental in creating the poker boom.

It is understandable to not be a fan of the artwork specifically. I would have preferred a photoshop of Mike Sexton, Vince Van Patton, and Shana Hiatt (Friel was short lived and didn’t have the chemistry that Shana had).

Mike Sexton and VVP defined the show. The executive producer and creator, Steven Lipscomb is on the cabinet sidewall (dressed as a dealer).

Having known Mike Sexton casually for many years (not as a close personal friend, but as a poker ambassador and genuinely nice person), I think it simply makes sense to have the 3 hosts depicted on the glass. Considering the callouts that feature the trio narrating your entire game, depicting them simply makes sense.

Of course this is just my opinion, and I could be wrong.

The stock translite is just fine. I can’t use any of the alternates because I can not stand the generic poker chips they use on all the replacements. They look like the chips you would buy at Walmart. If they would use WPT chips I would be more inclined to try one or at least frame one on the wall next to the game.

I was, and am still, a fan of the show.

That translite is an abomination. I know that what's-his-name (yeah: Brian Rood...glad he's gone) got screwed on the timeline by a piss-poor-to-work-with licensor, but the wretch-inducing "thing" that became the production translite should be something that every person should hang over his head at every given opportunity in life, it's *that* bad.

And it isn't just the translite! It's the *entire* art package, minus possibly the silhoutted-in-silver stuff on the side cabinet art. Other than that? It's basically the ugliest overall machine to come out of the Stern factory. I cannot honestly think of another machine whose art is such a complete and utter failure as this one, and yes: I'm aware of Striker Xtreme.

I find even the very best artwork that Rood has done to be awful...the man just can't get faces right. Way back when, I checked out his website, wherein he showcased his best work, and it was all awful to me. I remember shuddering at his giant LOTR characters' faces. I just don't like his art, period.

Still: absolutely love the machine, though, and I refuse to change a thing, besides adding that $20 bill across Courtney's face, just to relieve *some* of that wince-inducing awful artwork.

#1036 2 years ago

Correct, Aron... no one should get this game for its art package, which sucks. (Although the DMD animations are actually pretty good.)

This game is all about representing its theme perfectly, good audio, solid layout (love that upper playfield!), great rules.

If the alternative is to have that translite with the two cards ogling the queen with someone holding her cans... I'll take the original.

There are other alternatives. Honestly, I haven't yet seen one that I like, but that doesn't make me appreciate the original any more...it's still an abomination. It's just that the alternatives aren't good enough to warrant the change.

#1040 2 years ago

Yeah I think that's actually true.

#1041 2 years ago

So with all the comments about the original translite being awful, is there like an abundance of them for sale or available if I actually wanted one?

I don't mind the alternate one I have, but would rather have things more original. Goofy caricatures and all. Anyone selling their original? How much do you want for it, shipped to Guelph, Ontario?

It's not exactly the only game with bad artwork. I'm a big fan of Back to the Future in real life. The movies, the car and to some extent the pinball game. But that one gets my vote for the worst artwork and mostly it's because they couldn't get the rights to use MJF's likeness. That to me is what constitutes terrible artwork... when the lead character or actor in your theme isn't even on the game. Mike, Vince and Courtney look weird, sure, but at least it's them that actually look weird and not the nephew or friend of the designer or artist that stood in for the image.

It's a fair point, but hardly the only salient point. I mean, "weird" is about the very nicest descriptor that can be charitably used to describe the "artwork" that comprises the caricatures on that backless and the entire machine itself. It's an insult to caricaturists *everywhere*, honestly. There are quadriplegic, quasi-retarded caricaturists out there that find the publishing of that picture insulting.

The artist didn't get the job done, period. For whatever the reason(s) were, the ball was dropped. Ya pays to play, and ya takes yer chances: if it's your name on it when the paint dries, it's *your* issue. You got paid for it, so you're judged on what's there. You don't like that? To quote Alec Baldwin's character from "The Departed": "The world needs plenty of bartenders!"

Centre drop targets bank has one that keeps dropping and resetting whenever the slightest vibration occurs in the machine. I assume maybe a cleaning of the opto area might be a fix. No broken wires or springs that I can see. I know there was a service bulletin. Going to see if that will correct issue.

#1044 2 years ago
Quoted from prl867:

I know there was a service bulletin. Going to see if that will correct issue.

It will. While you're doing that bank, do them *all*. It should take you no more than an hour to do it if you're decently efficient. Remove the entire assemblies from the game and do it at a desk/table or something, and you'll be done in no time flat. You may also wish to check to see if the "shelf" that the drops rest on are cracked or whole, and if they're cracked, it may be time to replace them.

#1045 2 years ago

What might be going on with one of those drop targets if it registers during the game and you haven't even launched a ball yet?

My ten of spades does this. Not all the time, but when it's doing it, it thinks it has been hit and lights up. So an opto switch issue presumably. Is cleaning it with a little rubbing alcohol on the end of a Q-tip going to help?

This is my only game with these board mounted optos. My other games are older Bally/Williams like the Getaway and those optos are two separate pieces for sensing the ball going by as opposed to the piece of drop target plastic.

You could also try removing the connector(s) going to that drop target bank and reconnect them and see if the problem goes away or stays present. That's free to try and can perhaps diagnose a lot of things right there.

I have managed to join the WPT club, tricked it out with LED's and giving it a really good clean, I was suprised at just how much dirt can sit under the upper playfield.

Only thing I cant get working in the Start button light :/ I tried to follow the wiring back but got lost, could anyone give me any tips (and yes I have changes the globe out already hehe)

I was surprised it was a poker terminology. 'Dinner for two' what the heck was that, waaaiiit a minute; ohhhhhhh!

I was the one who put it in the script, but I can't take original credit for it. I have some recollection of looking up names on a website somewhere and that one cracked me up. Granner led me to believe that it took Mike by surprise too, lol.

#1049 2 years ago

I have my WPT listed if anybody is looking to join the club. Located in Michigan but willing to ship.

Is anyone bothered by the stop and go game play? The commentary and DMD animations are somewhat long. I love playing a mode in multiball, and bringing in other multiballs. It's all pinball at that point. But it takes a bunch of talkie-talk before I even get to start a mode.

Upper playfield ace-in-the-hole (stop) yields talk while I launch a new ball. That's cool, because I'm not held up, except to wait for the correct skill shot to give me another card. Launch (ball stops), a card is dealt. Shoot either ramp (ball stops), a card is dealt. Then, animation plays celebrating my win, the jet flies off to Vegas, Mike tells me what I am dealt (pretty long series of animations). THEN, I hit the mode start (ball stops), I am told about the mode I am starting.

As long as I'm in a mode, or a multiball, most of these animations don't play. But if I drain before the flop, I have to suffer through all of those animations before I can start another mode.

Most games have a stop at mode start. But WPT 3 stops (for cards dealt), and THEN the stop at mode start.
