New to the club. I just got a home use only wpt that looks great

Hi Everyone,

I have one Alternate Translite left that I would love to find a new home for!

You can get it here:

https://pinside.com/pinball/market/shops/1082-pin-mods/02107-world-poker-tour-alternate-translite

Thanks!

Just picked up a WPT as close to HUO as possible without actually being HUO. It was in one arcade only for several months and then pulled and put into storage until recently. Goody bag and manual still stapled to the side of the cabinet when I got it and a nearly flawless cabinet and playfield.
Quick question - I plan to replace the lights with LEDs when I shop it, but I notice one mode in attract causes the insert lights to brighten and dim in sequence causing a waterfall-like effect. With LEDs in, this effect is lost and only a flickering takes place. Will the OCD board fix this? Is the final effect with the OCD and LEDs exactly the same as with incandescent bulbs? Where is a good place to purchase one? Thanks!

#854 5 years ago

OCD will solve all of your ghosting problems. I've got one in my WPT and it's like night and day. Without OCD I felt the game was nearly unplayable with LED's installed, unless of course you like getting sick and having the overwhelming urge to puke. Once you add OCD it's like you have the strobing/flashing effect of incandescent lights. I don't remember where I bought my OCD board but it's well worth it.

Finally finished my WPT. Made some speaker lights, feel I need to reduce the brightness a little. Fitted powder coating metal parts. Looking good and now play a few games.

I just joined the club over the weekend. I got a REALLY nice one - alternate translite, OCD LCDs, Undercabinet LCD, playfield virtually perfect, Topper, and much much more!

Sooo. I have the machine for a couple weeks now; A few key bulbs are out and occasionally the K diamonds doesn't stay pupped' up and/or the Kd sensor may be intermittent. The upper-field's right flipper was angled low, now closer to the right flipper's angle. Last night; I updated from v1.0 to 14.0 (downloaded from stern's website). I'm new to the game and found it difficult to pass 20,000,000. This morning's game has me thrilled and scratching my head (loosing my hair and/or confused).

On ball 2 and I think the first tournament had yet to be passed; My focus was aiming at targets while avoiding the advancement of cards. Eventually multi-ball came and lasted for some time. At one point I saw a 2,000,000,000 figure on the DMD and No-Limit-Holdem. I continued with multi-ball for much more time. Jackpot was ringing and I was go, go, go with keeping it alive. I had over 2 Billion when ball 2 ended. Ball 3 was a waste. I stopped to think about what happened, grabbed a camera, then choked.

In the end 2,183,728,479 was the score. I posted my score, however, I wonder if it's valid. Is it? It has a flaky K diamonds and who knows what else. How do I validate it and should it be taken down?

That must be a software bug or you have an opto that's flaky and registering tons of points. It would take hours to put up a 2 billion score on WPT.

Yea. I suspected so. I've ordered parts to rebuild the center quad popups and replace the Kd opto. I'll have to poke around, see what else may be amiss. Thanks.

I have an occasional ball hang when occupying the Ace-in-the-Hole. One of the (2) holes provides enough resistance to require nudging it out. I spent a bit of time looking for lost screws, but the best I can see from the web images and manual; they shouldn't exist. The replacement image on Pinball Life doesn't appear to have them either. I'm replacing it, but what the heck?

WPTplfld (resized).jpgWPTplfld (resized).jpg

Quoted from RockfordReplay:

One of the (2) holes

those holes should not have screws, they are the holes for the optos. the one in front of the bar registers the hits to open the jail, the one behind registers hits to the captive ball. Is your game pitched correctly? Is the mini-playfield pitched correctly?

Regarding the 2Billion point game, since you only recently updated the code, you could probably check the audits to identify what feature has registered an outrageous number of hits/times.. it might not be one of the items that has an audit.. but it might be, like it might tell you you've hit the left ramp over 10000 times or something like that.

For the King of Diamonds not staying up, it's possible that the screws on the drop target mech need to be tightened up.

Thank you. I dug into the popups this weekend. The teeth were barely grabbing the rest. I had ordered replacement parts, but current parts look very fresh. The bracket/mounts did not look bent, but a washer was installed behind the popup springs for both the Kd and 7s. I found a specific update for WPT on Sterns site noting that spacer washers up-to 1/16" can be used to improve popup lock. I re-assembled the 4up bank without the (2) spring spacers and it works great now, almost too good. I'll pickup thinner washers or source washer-shims if needed.

I'll look at the audits after this (it's great that this was developed into the machine). I haven't checked the level since I 1st brought it in. I'm still moving it around and it may be off along with the 2B game.

EDIT: Add image to better explain. (5)washers added in Green. (2)extra-washers removed in Red (not c-clips, 2 additional washers were there, assumed to be placed in an attempt to reduce popup problems).

Here's a video of the audits. I don't know what looks out of place;

#865 5 years ago

Ya, nothing jumps out from those audits as a cause of your billion point game.

#866 5 years ago

that's a wierd one for sure. You'd expect you to have loads of cities. Wonder if its a bug?

#867 5 years ago
Quoted from NeilMcRae:

I starting to 'believe' I can do it again. My Paris light was dead and I feel I was on the second location with all my focus on jamming chip-tricks, stealing blinds, mystery award and cutting-the-cards. I have a feeling stealing-the-blinds led to something big when no-limit-hold-em hit.

Should record my sessions. I'll make or find a camera rig. Tightening loose hardware and replacing one piece of incorrect hardware tonight.

#868 5 years ago

a scoring exploit? if you find out what it is let me know.

#869 5 years ago
Quoted from Nickson:

a scoring exploit? if you find out what it is let me know.

Will do. I do recognize their may be one or more quirks with the machine. Either way, I'll document and provide.

An upper play-field replacement should arrive this week. I placed clear tape over the current ace-in-the-hole play-field holes; thinking it would allow the sensors to read and stop catching the ball. It didn't work. It appears that a cloudy/worn play-field will eventually block the ace-in-the hole sensors. Most likely, the holes were drilled to resolve the worn play-field.

I'm falling in love with this machine (...not like that!). As I dig into this; I want to pull it completely apart. Refinish the cabinet and clean everything from top-to-bottom. I'm amazed/frustrated at fining loose and misplaced hardware. As a home-game hold'em player and custom chip maker; The theme grabs me and the way they designed into pinball is awesome. When I'm up close, working on the play-field, scanning the shots, popups, ramps and card screen, I find myself muttering, "This is so cool".

Are there any options for changing call-outs in this game? I can't tell in the Pinball Browser thread if it's supported or not. They talk about it and then...

I guess PinSound doesn't work. What about P-Roc? I keep thinking about getting one, but I'd have to swap out the monotone call-outs to something else.

Prepare for a lot of work then. This game probably has the most complex call-out system there is.

I spent a bit of time combing through images of casino game-rooms; Hoping to find something providing depth and 'that card-room' feel. My last thoughts were to produce blades from the following WPT images. I don't know what I want, but the mirrors look great and would save time too.

Can someone tell me how poker wizard mode works? I read the jackpots are worth more depending on the number of trophies you get during the modes leading up to it. But I don’t understand what shots are jackpots, or what qualifies a shot to become a jackpot. It seems like everything is lit and they aren’t all jackpots.

Tiltfourms.com then type in World Poker Tour, they may have your answer. I don't own the game but want one.

I went there and the wiki. Also watched some videos with tutorials but none of them had a clear answer. I may just need to take off the glass to see what does what

Thanks for the idea though! I posted the question there as well.

Are there any specific areas I should look at on the play field before picking up a WPT?

#882 4 years ago
Quoted from C_S_S:

Off the top of my head - the left and right inlanes for where the ball drops from the rails, the condition of the upper playfield, area inside the pops, ensure that the drops are not too scuffed up if the "washer fix" hasn't been performed, make sure all the optics work and the stoppers on both the left and right ramps (and that the ball smoothly hits and goes through the physical switches). Also make sure the VUK in the back left (Cut the cards) grabs the ball and also pushes it onto the upper playfield. Make sure the Ace in the Hole cage operates as it should.

There's also a real chance for insert lifting due to heat for all of the card drops as well as the cities.

#883 4 years ago

I got my answer to this in tilt forum from Keefer. If anyone’s interested it’s in the WPT page. That mode makes more sense now. It’s not complicated but its not intuitive, at least for me.

I missed out on this game two months ago, a timing thing. Next time I see one If I need to change plans, I will.

#885 4 years ago

Can someone take a picture of the wire form that leads to the upper PF from the VUK for me? Mine doesn’t always allow for a trap, the game is level and I believe the issue is the wire form. It’s either not level or the connection is incorrect. Possibly need different washers?

My WPT has an issue all of a sudden. The 2 "fangs" don't drop down and trap the ball on the upper PF "ace in the hole" anymore. They always did drop but recently they stay stuck in the up position. I can hear and feel the coil clicking to drop the metal rods but they don't drop reliably. The opto works fine. Any ideas? thanks!

If the optos are working properly, then you probably need to swap out the coil that lowers the bars. Early games came with a coil that was too weak. Stern changed it to a stronger coil which is much more reliable at some point during the run ...

Before this ..... in TEST mode does the coil fire? Most of the time the "bar" issues are a result of the optos not reading correctly due to the acrylic playfield being dirty! Put the game into test mode and see if the "bars" (coil) fire!

WPT: strange right ramp behavior with V14

So this has more than just me stumped.

Symptom: shooting the right ramp does not advance flop, turn, or river in single ball play (perhaps other times, too?).

Both ramp switches are working properly, and the post will stop the ball at the top, then quickly release it onto the upper playfield without ever advancing the poker hand. Both switches work fine during the game, and in Switch Test.

Left ramp works fine. Game recognizes whenever the ball is resting breaking the opto at the top of the right ramp as well.

Sporadic behavior, but far more common than not. Suggestions appreciated.

How hard is it to remove upper playfield for replacement? I only saw 3 screws, two in the front and one in the back left.

3 screws and then you need to loosen 2 screws to slide out the ramp in front of it. Finally go under the playfield and loosen the bolts holding in the flipper shafts.

Perfect, that's all I could see as well. I'm putting in a ColorDMD, LedOCD, mirrors blades, new upper playfield, new drops/decals and cointaker warm LEDs. The machine was routed its whole life so the cab is still going to be scuffed up but the playfield will look fantastic.

I did pretty much the same. You can get a whole new plastic set pretty cheap for this game too. I think it was under $100 from Marco for a NOS set. Replacing them all was well worth it for me. Plus its the perfect opportunity while putting new rubbers on and cleaning everything.

I had the same issue, and took me a bit to figure out.

The ramp entrance switch appeared to work in test, both with finger and ball. However the switch was only triggering with a perfect shot which hit the wire gate powerful enough to trigger the switch.
Simple fix though, you just need to adjust either the wire gate, or the switch arm itself.
