Anybody changed the t-moldingen? I think the chrome looks a bit cheap but I don't know what else would look good. Any ideas?

I've read in other posts that its pretty easy to do. I think white would look sharp, maybe a red.

Wow! Thanks everyone for all the useful info. I've spent the last hour and a half reading this thread front to back. I picked up my WPT 3 days ago with a few other machines from an operator. It's been a lot of cleaning and repair. I just wish I'd read the service bulletin about the drop targets prior to cleaning and reassembling them!

#654 6 years ago

I'm just about done on shopping my wpt. I'm second guessing my decision on the yellow rubbers. In my head it looked better. I also added 2 spotlights on the slings and added a light under the right plastic. I found it a bit weird there was nothing there. Don't hold back on your opinion on the yellow rubbers, I can take it. And I might swap it out for clear rubbers soon. What do you think? Thanks

Nice WPT. Your second guessing your yellow rubbers choice is understandable though. I'd definitely change those again.

Just installed mirror blades on my WPT. Delighted with the new look.

Yep - I think mirror blades are a particularly excellent choice for WPT as they enhance its casino-like (and somewhat garish) artwork.

Definitely not feeling the yellow rubbers.

Same, not a big fan. When I think WPT, I think poker chip/casino colors. Reds, blues, and whites. There really isnt much yellow elsewhere on the game to match with.

what?
The whole center of the play field is yellow!
Not saying I like the yellow rubbers (I don't) but I see where the OP got the inspiration...from all that yellow!

So not sure if this was a fluke, but if updating your code without the new boot rom, try a usb sd card reader. I just completed mine with the original boot rom and a 4gb ad card in a Taurus sd reader.

Btw don't use blue on the back wall. Way too hard to see the upper playfield, those have been changed back out!

Can you not update with just a usb stick?

I haven’t updated wpt so not sure how or even what board it has

#664 6 years ago

I tried with multiple USB, but the older boot won't recognize any of them. Sounds like it only likes a select few.

What's up with the all in multiball. Shooting the left loop starts it off pretty easy. Plunging the ball sometimes starts it. Just got the game and am trying to understand it ,but that multiball is driving me nuts. Code is 1.06 and will soon be upgraded. Any thoughts?

#666 6 years ago

I believe all in mulitiball is started by the spinner, the spinner builds the pot until a hand is completed. If you reach the all in value before a hand is completed you start all in mulitball. I would check your spinner switch sounds like it is registering when it shouldn't be.

Just got a WPT and had to pull the head off to get it home. Everything was working fine before disassembly, but now that It's been put back together, the ace in the hole bars aren't working properly. Once a ball gets locked behind the gate, it pops a ball into the shooter lane... but then the gate opens immediately and lets the ball out. If I am able to start the ace in the hole multiball (with both balls on the playfield), it often will turn into a 4 ball multiball as it pops a couple more balls out and auto launches 'em. (Though, if one ball drains prior to getting the AitH multiball, it doesn't pop out more balls). The two optos on the gate test OK as do the switches in the trough. Anyone have an idea what the issue could be?

I would get some Novus and clean the upper playfield really well before anything else. Optos don't really like to shine through plastic, particularly when it's scratched. I replaced the upper playfield on mine, and a few hundred games in, it's dirty enough that I've seen the optos get confused. Then I would check all of the trough switches, and especially for cold solder joints on the opto board in the trough. Since the problem happens when the trough has two balls in it, maybe something isn't quite right when the trough has exactly two balls in it. (There could also be a cold solder problem with the connection from the AITH optos themselves to the opto receiver board.)

I guess if you had to take the head off, and that's the culprit, I'd look for problems near the AITH receiver board, since that's close to the head and most likely to have been jostled, bent, or damaged.

Good luck!

Does anyone know where I could source the clear plastic spacers that rest underneath the upper playfield flippers (and hold them up)? Mine are cracked. thanks!

All in MB can be awarded from the mystery plunge. That or spinner revolutions earn it.

About to start a tear down on the play field. Is there anything I need to be aware of, when removing the upper playfield. Looks like only support comes from the flippers at the front, and the small part in the Ace in the Hole.

nope super easy. Hardest part is the flippers super long shafts.

#674 6 years ago
Quoted from stoptap:

Ok. I have had the VUK out of the game and immediately spotted why we see balls rejected from the Extra Ball/lock shot. There is a leaf spring that is supposed to ensure that a one way gate stops the ball from rejecting. This spring gets bent up over time and doesn't work properly.
I bent the spring back down (you can swivel the gate out of the way to make this easier) and reassembled it after a clean. Works flawlessly now with not one single reject after multiple games.
Here is the spring in question.

My Extra ball/lock shot always sucked and then I saw your post on how to fix this. It's a bit tricky to take the assembly off but the fix to the spring is easy. My Extra ball/lock shot works perfectly now. No rejected shots.

Thanks for posting the fix.

Alright, I have the upper playfield out, not as bad as anticipating. Now, what about the back panel? I tried the undo the brackets on the side of the panel from the back, as well as the brackets on the bottom of the playfield. And by going through the manual, it doesn't appear that any of the assemblies are holding it back. Any suggestions?

Like where the Aces lock is? That is all from behind the pf back panel IIRC

Not sure, I'll try to take a look at it to see if there's an issue. If you're not already, make sure your print settings are set to something like 'Do not scale' or 'Print at 100%'

Tried, still didn't print properly. On my end they come out too small to fit in the holders.

Maybe try hosting the art file on dropbox or google drive? Pinside may be resizing the image?

Did you remove the orbit gate and disable the up-post? This make the game flow so much better.

I did not. I think it's too late. My gal is fed up with it and refuses to play it. I could stuff it with chocolate and diamonds and it still wouldn't matter lol

I lost the rubber sheet for what size goes where and the manual doesn’t seem to list. The top drop bank, what rubber goes behind the drops?

Just joined the club. Will be doing a full overhaul as it is fresh off route. For those with a nice HUO version, can somebody send me a few HIRES images of the head? Mine are in rough shape so I would like to repair/recover if possible. Stern does not make decals, nor does Retro Refurbs.

My machine has the early code. I am having a problem where the game will just go on its own and run crazy like in a loop. I have reset the power, and it still does it when the start button is pushed. Just keeps running in a loop. The machine is the only one my wife plays. Would a new boot ROM and code update fix the problem. The machine over all is in great shape. The playfield is great and I have updated to all LEDs. The boards are all clean with no burn spots. V/R

What do you mean running in a loop? If the balls keep kicking out & launching it's probably a trough opto or switch (very common) the game is looking for a ball that it doesn't see. That would be the 1st place I would look.

Code update never hurts either & is easy to do.

#695 6 years ago

Sorry the game will run continuously run through the Different City tournaments on its own, like its playing itself. It will also launch into multi ball at least one during this. It doesn't matter if I try and play while it is doing it. It will not register anything I do while it is doing this. I have don't the switch test, and they all register. When it does this it either starts at the push of the start button or right after I launch the ball.

#696 6 years ago

First, update the code. There were definitely bugs in WPT. You don't need to update the ROM chip; you just need to update, which takes a USB stick. The ROM file should be on Stern's web site.

Second, Stern had a service bulletin out for WPT. You might see if this is relevant, but I don't think so. WPT was known to have spontaneous resets, but that's not the problem that you're describing. Anyway, Stern was replacing computers with a fix, and you might want to have that done if it wasn't. (This is a long shot but can't hurt... if Stern is still doing it gratis.)

But if that doesn't fix it, I suggest another look at the switch tests. I'm guessing here, but... I'm sure all the switches register, but I think your game has an additional problem. It sounds like a short somewhere in the switch matrix, causing spurious closures in one of the left or right ramp switches. That, I would expect, to advance through the cities and into WPT champ multiball. Is that what's happening? This can be a real pain to find, because the problem will not be with the ramp switches. It will be with switches that share the same row or column, but not those.

But update the ROMs first. You might even get better diagnostics that way.

#697 6 years ago

Sounds to me like a dodgy ramp switch, triggering constantly and awarding poker hands, thus going through the tournaments, until all tournaments are complete and then awarding multiball.

Check out both ramp switches. My right one was so sensitive that it would trigger with pop bumper vibrations, until tweaked.

#698 6 years ago

Guys thank you for the info. I did get the updated code from Stern installed. Took a look at the ramp switches. They seem to be ok. I have played a couple games after the code update, and it plays good so far. I like the new code better already. Now I got to get theses buzzing flipper coils to stop buzzing. V/R

Here is my first attempt at a new translite for the game...any suggestions/feedback?

Quoted from Aquapin:

Here is my first attempt at a new translite for the game...any suggestions/feedback?

I find it a little boring. To me, a good translite for WPT would be poker themed, not WPT themed. A poker table, chips, cards in the foreground, and then maybe a blended/washed compilation of some of the cities in the game.

Doing a quick search on google for poker images, something like this image, with older poker themed pins in the background instead of slot machines, and a player's hole cards in the foreground.

Unfortunately, I don't have Photoshop or Illustrator
