Quoted from Syco54645:

what kind of plastic did you use and where did you get it?

its the same as plastic that the glare guards are made out of i went to a shop called palm beach plastics here in florida i had to buy a 4x8 sheet for a project i had

I burn my own non ghosting roms. the non ghosting patcher allows you to version the rom as anything you want.

Wher can I get the patcher? I can burn my own EPROMS.

A Ball question. What works good to clean the ball? Mine has like a blackish ring where the pinball will hit it. Any suggestions on a good cleaner?

#154 10 years ago

I picked up my WCS on Thursday of last week. I was out of town, so didn't get it setup until Saturday, but I got quite a few plays on it since then. I did end up beating Germany, and the game has been a lot of fun. I love the way the ramps feel, and a well placed goal shot is very satisfying.

Does anyone have any game specific setup tips to decrease ball time a bit?

Congrats Dave!!! Guess it's time to head back down to your place!

As for ball time, if I'm setting it up for me and not the kids I either put kickback on "off at ball start" so you have to shoot it to light it up, or "1". Also cleaned and waxed mine after having it a few days to speed it up some. Preset hard or very hard (under utilities settings) is another way to challenge yourself.

#156 10 years ago

I felt bad that you'd be making the trip to play a game you already own, so I also picked up a 4mbc for you to make your future trips worth it!

The game plays really fun the way it is, so I don't know if I want to completely 'bastardize' it (yet). I like the idea of removing the kickback on ball start, and I'll check out some of the software settings. I may purchase some lightning flippers to have on hand, in case I ever feel like tossing them on there.

#157 10 years ago

I think having to light the kickback and also putting lightning flippers would make for quicker games for sure. Also, turn off the extra ball reward. Basically, set it up for PAPA rules.

4mbc? And just so you know I don't need any more incentive than to hang out with you in Edgerton/Milton/???

when is teh next ge-to-gether Dave? Congrats on the new machines!

http://pinside.com/pinball/archive/four-million-bc My first EM, it's been a lot of fun, very unique!

I want to have something again soon. I've had a lot of things going on, but things are starting to settle down. I'll definitely let you know!

I finally finished my 'down to the bare playfield' shop of my WCS94 It took me a while and it is only my second time shopping a pin ever and the first one was a Laser War, that was a piece of cake compared to this one.....

Full LED's and I think it looks really good. It looks like a different machine than the one I bought 2 weeks ago I also installed Cliffy's, Yellow post rubbers, new rubbers, removed mylar, novus and waxed playfield, novus and flame polished ramps....yanno, the usual.

I threw some color changing LEDs into the 3 lights on the backboard.
It looks kinda cool reflecting off all the ramp plastic.
Plus-those 3 shined right into my retinas.

Looks great. Did you buy an LED kit or did you buy each individually?

#164 10 years ago

Thanks, I bought them individually. It ended being over $120 cheaper to do it that way over buying the kit and I think these colors work getter anyways. I can make up a list if anybody is interested. I mainly used Frosted Cool Whites for all of the GI except behind the goal, which are green. Also, instead of purple I used pink for the purple inserts and saucers, I think it looks a lot better than the purple did. The purple had way too much blue.

As for the 3 lights on the backboard, they really aren't bad being the frosted ones, but color changing might be kind of cool. I was going to put 3 pink frosted in the coin toss but I didn't order enough pink like a dope.

I know this is my first pin, but I almost feel like if I can tear this game down and shop it, I can almost do any game

I like the looks of your LED's. I've added a couple in mine but haven't done them all. As soon as I get my Funhouse back together I'm going to tear down my WCS94 and give it a good cleaning. My kids really enjoy the game. I would be interested to see your list of LED's you used. I've bought a full kit before for my TSPP but after that I think creating your own is a better option. Jason

#167 10 years ago

Looks really good. I really like the way you did the ultra inserts. I may have to steal that idea!

I put one standard purple LED into the 'worldcup' inserts to see how it would look. It was ghosting pretty bad, so I guess I'd have to have the anti-ghost rom installed before doing all of the inserts..

#168 10 years ago

The only problem I've had with LED's is that on clear inserts like the ultra and build they just seem to be too bright. When the lights start flashing I almost have to look away or squint my eyes. I think I'll try frosted on clear inserts next time.

#169 10 years ago

I don't find these too bright, but maybe I am not as affected by bright light as some. The anti-ghosting rom works great, I can't recommend it enough. I saved a lot of money not having to buy non-ghosting LEDs.

Sure thing, if I get some time later I will get a list up.

So what kind of software adjustments have people made? My outlane posts are already up, and I like where they are. I wanted to toughen up the rules a bit, but I may have made them a little too tough.

Here are some of the adjustments I've made:

- Striker award no longer awarded from unlit goal - I actually thought that I had an opto problem or something when I was getting this awarded, this seems like a no-brainer to turn off.

- Kickback not lit at ball start - I'm on the fence about this one... lighting that kickback is pretty tough. I guess you need to roll over the right inlane, and then hit the target in the time limit? Do I have something else goofy that's making the light so difficult?

- Ball save reduced from 5 to 3.

- Striker award only lit once, not every ball.

Some of the things I'm on the fence about:

- Number of kickbacks - it seems like if you start them unlit, it may be alright to allow more than one at a time, since they're so difficult to light.

- Goal lit once? Every ball? Never? - I'd like to know what PAPA does. Right now I have it lit once, that seems pretty fair..

- Extra Balls - I like my extra balls , but I've made it difficult as a striker award and city award. I can't decide if they should carry over?

I'd love to hear what other people think!

#172 10 years ago

I am curious what PAPA does as well. Just from removing the mylar and waxing the playfield I have made my game exponentially more difficult! I was averaging around 700,000,000 a game and now I am about 200-300,000,000. I have the outlanes wide open as well and I put it in tournament mode so the striker awards are not random. I am thinking about turning the kickback off at the start once my family is kind of done playing it. My machine is going to be used in the tournament at the Big 80's Weekend coming up at the beginning of August so I am going to adjust a few things, but I don't want to make it impossible.

I am thinking:

-Keep the outlanes open
-Kickback not lit on start
-Goal only lit on first ball
-Striker Award not awarded on unlit goal.
-Turn off Extra Balls (only for tournament)

#173 10 years ago

Love the look of the game Gov!!

Would also like to see the list of LED's you used. Love the look of the saucers!

Dave, as for lighting kickback, I'm not sure why you are finding it so difficult. You get a shot at it every time you plunge, shoot goal, or shoot striker's hideout (or of course a regular ball down the right inlane). You also have a chance to carom into the TV Award/Final Draw. Extra ball not carrying over definitely makes the game much more challenging in my opinion.

#174 10 years ago

That shot may be easy on your game, but I have a VERY tough time hitting the kickback target consistently. It may just be that I suck though Shots from the tip of the flipper are very difficult for me.

As for the LED's and such, I replaced the saucers with new ones from Marco and they look 100x better IMO.

#175 10 years ago

Well.. it certainly couldn't have anything to do with my skill level..

#176 10 years ago

Well, I think I have maybe 'fixed' the travel issue of going straight into the kickback. I installed Cliffy's Yellow post 'rubbers' on my machine and they are a tad thinner than most post rubbers that come in kits. Now instead of shooting straight into the kickback upon traveling, it comes down into the left slingshot in a very smooth motion that is pretty controllable.

I kind of wonder if that was the way it was originally meant to be as it feels much more smooth than it did before clipping that post rubber and going into the kickback.

Here is my LED list from Cointaker:

Kickback Arrows x3: 555 Cool White Super (FLEX if you want brighter, kind of offset)

Magna Goal Target x1: 47 Orange Super

Cities inserts x8: 555 Pink Super

Goals inserts x4: 555 Warm White Super

Coin Toss x1: 555 Warm White FLEX

Light Lock (Speed/Stamina etc) x4: 555 Cool White Super

Saucers x3: 47 Pink FLEX

Build Lock x4: 555 Cool White Super

Tickets x2: 555 Pink Super (mine are blue as I forgot to order these) Blue looks good too.

Free Kick: Yellow Super (555/47???)

Lock Arrows x2: 555 Warm White Super

Special and Ball Save x2: 47 Red Super

Extra Ball x1: 555 Red Super

Lighting Bolts x4: 1 each 555 Super Red, Blue, Green and Yellow (I am going to change yellow to pink) These correspond with the different ramps and such with the colors I used there.

Goal x2: 555 Warm White

Jackpot x1: 555 Red Super

Goal GI x2: 555 Green Frosted

Pop Bumpers x3: POP Bumpers 4+1HP Cool White

Ticket Rollovers and Ultra Jets instert: 47 Pink supers (I think they are 47's need to verify)

Coin Toss assembly x3: 555 Cool White (Thinking of going with Pink/Purple)

GI is all Cool White 555 Frosted. I ordered 70 of them for everything that used frosted including the backbox.

Ramp plastics x6: 555 x2 Blue Frosted, X4 Red Frosted

Then i ordered Cool white flat flashers for the playfield. I Color matched the dome flashers. The goal top flasher, the ultra jets flasher, the insert behind the goal and one of the ramp yellow flashers need to be the premium flashers that have the globes on them or other wise they don't light correctly as the regular ones are flat and only project one direction.

All together it was about $120, but I didn't order a few I have listed there as I had a few already from a sample kit. Still, compared to their kit at $250 it is a pretty good deal. Also if you use this list, double check the bulb type before ordering 47/555 as I may have some backwards.

I hope this helps.

I care she was a little dirty in some places but looks good now GOAL !!! How many hours did you put in to this

#182 10 years ago

Oh I don't know I worked on it some every night for two weeks. I would say I probably have about -10-20 hours on it. It was my first extensive shop job so I took my time.

Does anybody else feel like the Final Draw hole is one of the harder shots out there? What I mean is, when you are on ball three, you finally locked that ball on the left ramp and you have to hit that shot to start multiball. That is a pressure shot and it is so easy to brick it and have it drain down the middle. The magna goalie is useless for anything traveling faster than a snail.

I can slop it into the TV hole left and right until multiball/final draw is on the line then I am a bricking machine! I don't know if I will ever get to Germany. I have made it to Spain twice I think. Today I kept adding the extra ball just to see if I could get there, I finally went for cities and was one shot from starting the World Cup Final and I never could hit the TV hole

The game can be infuriating but I still keep coming back for more.

Quoted from Gov:

I've always said this. The shot is RIGHT THERE!!! Yet so hard to hit when you are trying your hardest! I think they have it cocked at the tiniest angle. Today I had a ball rebound and shoot down the right inlane with some speed. Reactionary slap on the right flipper and made it into final draw. Not sure how as I can hardly ever make it from the right flipper even at a standstill.

#185 10 years ago

Funny enough I am better backhanding it than not. I have to have it trapped though to do that, and that can be an adventure The right ramp I can only hit by accident as well......

you can also buy them from retailers, some sites still sell them

btw, I roughed up the bottom edge of the illinois ball I got and it improved the effect of the ball

#188 10 years ago

Woot! I finally made it to the Cup final and beat Germany. I will tell you what, that final is intense! Plunging and flipping and plunging and sweating! Just to think I almost went to bed without playing one more game for the night

I know a lot of you make it to the final a lot, but that was my first go round. Very cool, I love how the GI goes out every time Germany scores.

Woot! I finally made it to the Cup final and beat Germany.

Congrats! Love that feeling!

I was playing the other day and shot 3 quick goals against Germany. I then proceeded to plunge and score another as it was kicking one out. Scored that one (which didn't count)and plunged and scored another(which didn't count), just couldn't miss. Still had 3 balls in the goal though so it wouldn't count ANY until I let it kick out all the balls. Ended up with 8 goals but should have been 11 or 12. 8 still stands as my best.

#192 10 years ago

Playing a game with the kids and learned from my mistake. Only used 2 balls in Final with Germany, got the timing just right!

Damn. I need to learn to control multiball better, I am my own worst enemy as I am always shooting a ball into a ball coming back down.
