I inherited a hobby woodworking shop from my grandfather. Unfortunately, I never learned how to use any of the tools until after he died, so i didn't learn anything that he knew or what his father knew as an expert cabinetmaker from the czech republic. So I have every tool that i could imagine, and some I still don't know what they are or what they're for, but i'm working my way through how to use everything. I've got the main machines that you could ever want:

8" jointer
13" planer
Bandsaw
scrollsaw
drill press
belt sander
shaper
table saw
lathe

and then on top of that i have a mill and a metal lathe and a shit ton of hand tools filling up half of my basement. Add in all of the tools that I've purchased in the last 18 years and i'm swamped. I've build bed frames, cabinets for carnival cranes, carvings, arcade machines and plenty other things.

So what do you guys have? Show it off.

There's so many to choose from. What kind of wood working does he do? Furniture, lathe work, boxes, carving...

Here's my great grandfather's set of bits. He made the box that they're in as well. He came to the US without knowing a word of English and ended up teaching the woodworking class at the college he attended while working on a civil engineering degree. Not too shabby.
I'll have to take some more pictures.

He seems to enjoy making small furniture, tables, cabinets, stools. But he sometimes puts together random wood projects, maybe a box or shelf.

i wanted to get him more old school hand tools. He was into that wood working show on PBS. I have gotten him a few things from Garrett Wade, but I know there are more out there...

Nice set of bits. I have a set of users, and then a complete set of NOS in a very similar box to what you've shown. What's the imprint on the shaft of those bits?

Lie Nielsen and Veritas make the nicest "affordable" hand tools. There are also plenty of specialty manufacturers out there making really upscale tools, like Bridge City tool works.

A nice sharpening kit could be a nice gift if he already has good planes and chisels, with Tormek being the king of sharpening systems. A scraping plane could be a nice gift if he doesn't have one. And then a little simpler, a no. 4 1/2 smoothing plane is kind of a nice improvement over the more commonly used no. 4 smoothing plane. A low angle block or smoothing plane could also be an option.

The are Greenlee, Rockford Illinois. I don't know exactly when they were purchased, but they should be close to 100 years old.

Picked these up last week. They are early 1900 steam engine toys accessories. They are the smallest woodworking tools I have and are completely functional. I'm not into steam engine stuff, but they were too cool to not pick up

Picked this one up this past weekend for cheap. Nice mid 40s 24" Delta. I also picked up the same bandsaw you have a couple of months ago
