Need some help brainstorming what the problem might be in this 1960 wood rail World Beauties. It plays fine except when the special is lit. If that light comes on during a game, then it won’t restart. Instead it takes all the credits trying to reset the relay bank in the back. What’s really weird is that it only does this when the playfield is down. We can’t recreate this when it’s propped up (with or without balls in the trough). During normal gameplay without a lit special, it works fine. If you earn a special and it starts complaining, all you have to do is lift the playfield and it stops.

We know it's not one beauty causing the problem because we can only create the issue when all of them are tripped. We also know it's NOT that the bank is too challenging to reset with all the relays tripped because the coil is not firing at all that we can see.

Another theory is that a switch somewhere might be closing when we lift the machine. However, it looks like most switches are not positioned for that scenario to occur.

Anyone have advice for this special problem? I'll try to post a video from my phone too.

Here's a video of it trying to reset.

Is the problem only during reset or during the game too?

Can you lift the playfield and still see the problem if you close the ball trough switches?

It could be that some reset condition is not being satisfied so the Start relay isn't being cleared and the Score Motor and bank reset keep trying to resolve the missing condition. Does the 100k stepper in the head reset when this is happening?

Clear images of the Start relay and Score Motor logic from the schematic would be helpful.

Good idea. Maybe it's the ball trough switches changing position when we lift the playfield. I'll look into this.

I'll report back. We do have the schematic too.
