I just picked this up. I’m excited to get this functioning 100%. I figure this might be the closet I get to purchasing a “Ringer”.

I don't think I've ever seen that one. Very cool.

Quoted from AlexF:

Has anyone reproduced the "balls played" decal used on 57-58 Williams woodrail aprons with a ball trough window?

I have reproduced all of the artwork for the Balls Played decal.. I'm currently waiting to hear from the print shop I use to get back to my on a few questions. Once done I'll make them available to woodrail collectors. I can be found on FB in the Woodrail Pinball Machines, EM Arcade Games and little mechanical pins group.. or through PM here.

Quoted from PinballFever:

My 1953 Williams Grand Champion has impulse flippers and it was fun learning how to play with them. My thinking is the playfield was designed with the impulse flippers in mind, not the flippers we have today. I don't think this game would play right if it was changed over to regular flippers.
I recorded a video of the impulse flippers that you might be interested in seeing. Either flipper button on either side will activate both impulse flippers at the same time.

Hi Bruce - Would it possible for you to post a couple of pics of the impulse flipper mechs under pf pls? Thks Wayne

Quoted from PinballFever:

Hi Wayner - It's hard to show the impulse flipper mechanics with the trap hole trough in the way. I recorded a short video while actuating one of the flippers. Hope it helps you. I can post pics too.
Bruce

Thanks so much Bruce-very helpful. I needed to see the configuration for a project I am undertaking. Cheers Wayne

I've seen that one, and I had a game with the same decal, but the lettering font was like a bold version of this one.

This is a direct photograph from my WMS Casino compare it to my reproduced artwork, I think you'll find they look pretty much the same. I even altered the lettering in Adobe Illustrator to better emulate the font used (which was hand drawn back then!) It's not absolutely perfect, but if you had this on a restored game I doubt there would be any complaints.

Hey Pat, if you do an image search of the font you can find some close matches. There are a whole bunch of websites that do it. This particular one has the fonts for free.

I'm finally getting to working on the Wagon Train.

First thing I noticed is the wiring on the coin door is a bit odd. There should be more cut wires that would have went to the coin switches but I found only one cut wire. This slam switch was also purposely bent closed.

IMG_2691 (resized).jpgIMG_2691 (resized).jpg

Does anyone have a photo of what this area should look like? I have a pair of coin chutes I picked up and I would like to get at least one 10c coin mech working. How difficult is finding those parts going to be?

I have Schematic and parts manual on order from PBR but if anyone can shed some light on the coin door wiring that would be great. Right now the lights only come on when that slam switch is making contact which doesn't seem right...

I removed the bottom board and starting cleaing contacts. cleaned everything on the bottom board and score motor. I found that the contacts on the "R" "Hole" relay were also purposely bent closed and the coil was burnt up. Checked it with a MM and its shorted, reads 0.4 ohm.

IMG_2690 (resized).jpgIMG_2690 (resized).jpg

Can someone with a Wagon Train let me know what that coil is supposed to be?

Thanks!

This discussion might belong in its own topic, but here's part of the Dancing Dolls schematic (made a couple of months later) and some answers.
Dancing Dolls coin chute (resized).jpgDancing Dolls coin chute (resized).jpg
On the coin door the Coin Chute switch (in red) should connect the orange and blue wires.

Quoted from Charles_Kline:

Right now the lights only come on when that slam switch is making contact which doesn't seem right...

The Anti-Cheat switch (in red, bottom left) and Bounce switch both need to be closed for power to get into the transformer.

The R relay switch (in red, left side) also keeps power running into the transformer. The R relay coil (in red, top) is always on and often looks toasted. But unless you desoldered one of the solder lugs the .4 ohm is likely the resistance of the transformer and not the R coil. Either way the R relay coil in Dancing Dolls is an A-3498 which should have a resistance of about 30 ohms.

The important point though is that nearly everything you're asking about is between the plug and the transformer and is running at 120 volts so I would advise unplugging the game before poking around any of it.

Just finished reproducing plastics for Times Square and they’re ready to install.

It took a while to get the artwork recreated but they came out well. The two plastics with dancers took the longest and even though they look like mirror images of each other, they’re not and there are many slight differences between them.

They look great! I'm planning to reproduce the plastics on one of my Grand Champions. They're too warped to use.

Thanks for the info Mark.

Seeing the schematic makes it makes sense about the bounce switch being the opposite of a typical slam switch.

I did find a partial scan of the relay list in another Wagon Train thread and it shows the R relay as the "Hold" the label must be misprinted "Hole" and it confirms the 3498 coil.

Thanks for the reminder on the 120v, this isn't the first EM or woodrail I've worked on.

Acquired this quite a while back, but life and a move and stuff got in the way. Just setting it up for the first time. Pretty decent cosmetics, minor flaking on the backglass, bumper goes up and down, desperately needs all new rubber rings and a good cleaning. Score motor turns like molasses.

I’m considering a Gondola.

https://www.ipdb.org/search.pl?any=Gondola&sortby=name&search=Search+Database&searchtype=quick#1057

It looks interesting, but is it fun to play? Would I be able to get parts? Supposed to be in working condition.

Pretty game. If it's cheap and in decent condition, why not?

Quoted from jrpinball:

What would be a fair price for one in decent condition?

Why not, because I’m wanting fun toys, not merely a historical showpiece. Also, it’s three and a half hours away.

#1570 2 years ago

Working on a Straight Shooter... looks like there's been some scavenging in the backbox. I'm missing a number parts off of the 0-9 unit. Anybody know of a source of parts for these? I will need most of the mechanical hardware (a couple of the lever arms, a switch, the coil and coil bracket...)

Well that's a substantial road trip.
Is there an asking price for it?

#1572 2 years ago

Asking $795

#1573 2 years ago
Quoted from undrdog:

It looks interesting,

I’d bet it’s interesting to play with all 4 flippers running off one button. Considering it’s ‘49, I’d imagine it’s impulse as well.

It does look pretty and is cool looking. Are there schematics available for it? That would be my biggest concern with owning and keeping an Exhibit pinball running.

If you decide to get it, there's a woodrails Facebook group I'm a member of that may be helpful with what you need for this game.

I always end up on E-Bay, for me, it's a great source for parts.

No schematics.

Assuming average - good condition, what would be a fair price range? Kind of thinking it'd be a long day to go get it.

Thanks, I did find a stepper from a later Gottlieb from the 60’s in my spare parts bin that looks like I can use for some of the parts. PBR has the rest of what I think I need. I also ordered a schematic.

Question: is there supposed to be a bell on the 0-9 unit? There is one on the 10,000 unit and a separate stand alone bell assembly in the head.

#1578 2 years ago

Hmm. I don't have any experience with this game; in fact, I don't think I've ever seen one. Don't know what to tell ya'.

#1579 2 years ago

No schematic on eBay. Asking PBR.

Anyone know what United Supply games with spring bumpers are worth in general?

Maybe he'll trade for my Hi-Hand. I put so much time into that machine it’s hard to give it up, but it would be trading a bingo for a flipper game.

This was a special find. Turns out it was in the hands of an old acquaintance, a long time pinball hobbyist from whom I bought my Sea Shore twenty years ago this month. It’s in great shape and works but I want to clean it up before it submerges and goes into action.

My Sunshine is mostly good, except for the rotating wheel in the center. I'm not inclined in this hobby, but not totally devoid of skills, so I can't tell what is exactly wrong with it. It IS a nice game, though.

One of the more commonly occurring woodrails, but a good game. Similar in game play to "Queen of Diamonds"/"World Beauties".

I looked at a Sunshine a few years ago in Orlando. I really liked the artwork and the backglass is cool with the ratings. Unfortunately it was in bad condition and there was evidence of termites. I passed, but haven’t forgotten. Someday I’ll find a good one.

There seems to be a lot of them still around. I've seen many for sale in the last several years.

Good lord, you made my heart jump. I saw that first listing (which, by the way, didn't get a single bid!!!) and wished to heck I was there or knew someone up there. Doesn't do me any good sitting here in Tennessee. The final bid for the second listing was $228, for crying out loud. What a steal. So envious.

I acquired a 1953 Marble Queen in October, which is the first woodrail I've bought. Snagged the last repro glass from Shay (what luck!), and I have bought paint to restencil the cabinet, which I keep claiming I will do.

Woodrails have intrigued me as long as I've known about them (as well as older, pre war machines), but I was blown away when my folks took me to one of the Pacific Pinball Expositions as a wee lad. They had at least fifty woodies set up, which is the most I've seen assembled with me own eyes. So sad the city of Alameda hasn't let the Pacific Pinball Museum hold events in their warehouse space. Those Expositions really were worth travelling across the country for.

oldcarz My goodness, you have a beautiful collection, too! What is admission??

Very nice Marble Queen. My all time favorite woodrail that I own. That original cabinet is gorgeous as is. I have been to oldcarz place a few times and it is better in person. He's probably one of if not the most generous host I have met in this hobby. Welcome to the woodrail club.
